GPU Overclocking: Why are there hard limits on maximum hash rate? Posted: 08 Oct 2021 06:25 AM PDT Sorry if this is well known, but I haven't seen any mention of this. I am a PC gamer, and we overclock GPU's all the time. The results are gaussian in distribution, like a bell-shaped curve. A few cards perform poorly, a few are fantastic, and most fall somewhere in between. My question is, why is this not the case at all for mining hash rate? If you have a given card, there is a set hash rate. I have five 6800 xt's and they all do exactly 63mh/s. Why? In the world of GPU overclocking serious people will go to heroic lengths to get 5% more performance for nothing more than respect. Given the financial incentive, I am a bit surprised I can't find a single mention of an RTX-3090 faster than 121mh/s for Eth. And if every card can to that speed, I would assume some could go much faster. [link] [comments]

Really disappointed with the RTX 3080ti Posted: 07 Oct 2021 12:37 PM PDT A little background, I'm a home miner running a few non-LHR RTX 3060ti's and 3070's in a small rig, as well as in my PC and one in my wife's PC. I bought an EVGA 3080ti XC3 on a whim for my PC because one became available for near-MSRP and I figured I wouldn't mind the extra gaming horsepower. I was thinking those LHR-unlocked miners would pretty easily get me to the 80mh/s ballpark, but I've been tinkering and I haven't been able to get anywhere. LHR modes with T-rex and NBminer both seem to be worse (around 50mh) than just letting the card get LHR-locked (around 65mh). I've tried ERGO+ETH with T-rex 0.24 also and it just won't stick. I'm usually reasonably good at troubleshooting this stuff, but I haven't gotten it to work well here. This won't surprise any of you, but the worst part is that even if I get it to work, this thing is either extremely loud or the memory is extremely hot, unlike my 3070s which are whisper quiet and pretty cool while pulling 60mh effortlessly. With this 3080ti, the memory is pretty much hovering around 92-100c unless I crank the fan to leaf-blower levels, even when just pulling a pathetic 65mh on Ethereum and other unimpressive results on Ergo, struggling to get above 230 mh. I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or if there's something weird going on with this card, but either way, it has been a big disappointment. [link] [comments]
A helpful tip for those serious about mining Posted: 07 Oct 2021 01:04 PM PDT Get a bot. Yes, I said it, I mentioned the bane of all miners. I personally started mining during "COVID summer." I (like many others) was very frustrated because these bots were buying the tools I needed to complete my rig. It seemed my only option was to pay scalper prices to start off my mining career. I eventually came to realize that I was wrong - there was another option: try my hand at botting. I had 0 prior experience so it was a little scary starting off, especially because at the time most bots were over $2,000 (since then prices have dropped dramatically). However, I decided I'd bite the bullet because if it works, the price wouldn't matter. Best. Decision. Ever. My only regret is not trying sooner. I guess the stigma surrounding the botting game had been the main deterrent. I personally use my GPU bots not to scalp, but to build my rig at MSRP and help out some close friends get the cards they want whether it be for gaming or mining. No I'm not a shill or anything (these bot companies have countless, obsessive fans who would do anything for a key - they don't need shills 😂), I'm simply sharing what has worked for me. Hope this helps some people! If you have questions for me just ask them below 🤙 TLDR: I got a bot, I was able to build my rig and friends' rigs for MSRP, I wish I had started sooner, I recommend it [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Oct 2021 09:38 AM PDT Hi there Just looking at different options of how to cut / save electric costs (UK based). Did anyone look into veg oil electric generator? I can get fairly cheap quality veg oil delivered in IBC and was thinking of setting up a mini station to power the rigs. Not sure of how would I set up the switch in case generator shuts down, but I'm sure that's doable. Any thoughts / ideas? [link] [comments] |
