Posted: 03 Oct 2021 07:08 AM PDT Hi all. I'm troubleshooting a hardware issue with a 6 GPU rig. I powered it off a couple of days ago to add a second PSU and 3 new GPUs (3 3070's now expanded with 3 3080's). I'm using the 1200W PSUs from parallelminer with their breakout boards. I have one of these to power the board and the original 3 GPUs, and this kit for the second PSU with the X11 breakout board for the remaining 3 GPUs. It's the same PSU for both power arrangements. After doing the work to install the new PSU and GPUs the system doesn't power on anymore (sob). I tried:
When none of that worked I assumed I must have shorted and fried something while working on it. So, I've replaced and tested (all of these tested with 0 and a single GPU):
None of those tests result in joy either. My symptom is that the CPU fan spins, but no peripherals get any power, and the blue "motherboard powered" LED on the breakout board doesn't light. I have a PSU tester that I've used for years with "traditional" PSUs and it has always in the past worked as expected. When I try to use that tester with this PSU and breakout board it shows errors (images below). I expect a normal PSU tester should work fine with this kind of setup, despite it using the breakout board the power must be the same? Seems like the last component here is the breakout board itself (it was tried on both PSUs)? I'm tired of buying new components without fixing anything, so I thought I'd try to brainstorm here before continuing to throw money at this problem. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2021 11:04 PM PDT So been banging my head against a wall with this one for the past 3 days. I am completely well aware that AMD drivers are absolute shite (used to use AMD cards since the HD 6000 series) but gotta work with what I have. I have an AMD rig with 2x 580, 1x 480, and 1x Vega 56 that's mining on Windows with TRM. For the past ~8 months its been working perfect with only like 3-4 crashes. But I recently had to reinstall Windows on it and I haven't been able to get it back up and running on 3 separate drivers (20.9.2, 20.9.1, and 20.7.2 which was what it was on prior to the reinstall). Whenever I install the drivers it completely shits on Windows it seems; overall poor system performance, MSI afterburner crashes and is unresponsive, memtweak has slow performance, and the AMD software does not open up at all (which I need to enable on the 480/580 for Compute mode since the bat file has never worked for me). I've tried reinstalling windows (both saving data and lastly a clean install), uninstalled the drivers with DDU in Safe Mode after each attempt, uninstalled/reinstalled Afterburner too many times to count... Kind of at my wit's end. Anyone deal with something similar that has any input? I'll try going further back in drivers when I get back to it. Also before any "jUsT uSe HiVe Os" comments, I've used Hive in the past but whenever I try to OC any of the cards it shuts off the entire rig and reboots it. This has repeated itself the 4 times I've tried using Hive so that's why I want to stick with Windows since the OCs I can get there are much better and more stable (when it was working lol). Posted: 03 Oct 2021 06:26 AM PDT Hello Everyone. I have not started mining yet but it it very close to become true. I had a question about withdrawal. Hiveos Stores your ETH in a wallet, i think. Is there any withdrawal limit on there. My plan is to throw the Eth in an Exchange and than convert it to USDT and then sell it off. Is that good? What do you suggest? Thank you [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Oct 2021 05:30 AM PDT Hi, I'm almost done with my build but now after hookng up 2 ot of 3 gpus I'm stuck with the power wiring of the third. I'm using 2 PSUs, the first one powers the system and a 1660+its riser, since it's a 550w psu i'm not going to extract more power from it. The second one is a Corsair HX750 platinum (outputs here) which will have to power both a 3070 and a 3080 and their respective risers. I have now 4 PCIe cables with two 6+2 pin connectors each. 3x8pins are required for the cards that leaves me with one to power 2 risers. Would it be possible or the only way is to start using molex which I believe is not ideal? Thanks [link] [comments]

How to get hot air out of apartment? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 10:27 PM PDT Rectangular living room. Rig is at a complete opposite corner of windows how to get hot air our of the room? Im currently putting a table fan facing the rig from one side, and an air cirulator infront of the rig from the other side to suck the hot air out. Should a third fan face the window at all times or what? [link] [comments]
Unable to get into motherboard bios using a PCIe splitter. Posted: 03 Oct 2021 03:20 AM PDT Using a 4 way riser splitter in my x16 PCIe slot. I get a black screen for a couple minutes but I get a display signal working once it hits the windows desktop log in. When I press the key to enter bios after power on, the screen goes black and stays black. I'll reiterate that I get a display working fine once it goes to desktop. Do I have to remove the riser from the splitter and straight to the PCI slot to get a display signal right after powering on? I would like to change the sys fan header speeds. [link] [comments]

Can I "reverse" use a PSU GPU cable? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 07:03 PM PDT I've got a standard GPU power cable that I guess is left over from a previous PSU. The cable is your standard 8-pin on one end, and then two daisy chained 6+2 on the other end. My rig is powered using server power supplies w/ breakout boards that have 6-pin connectors. I'm genuinely curious if I can take this standard PSU GPU cable, plug one of the 6 pin connectors into the breakout board, another of the 6-pin connectors into the riser, and the 8-pin end into a GPU. Does that make sense? [link] [comments]

Worth It to get a mining rig with ETH 2.0? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 05:15 PM PDT I was planning to build a 2-3x 3060 ti rig with plans of adding more but with eth 2.0 idk if it will be wise. I was just planning to mine other alt coins after eth 2.0 with lower profitability but still making a profit as my electricity prices are still relatively low. Will I be able to make a profit after eth 2.0 mining other alt coins like rvn or should I just wait for eth 2.0 to happen then decide from there. BTW my electricity cost is around 5.2Cents per kwh. Posted: 02 Oct 2021 07:58 PM PDT Anyone using an ASUS Prime A320M-K motherboard for eth mining? Im using Win10 and can only detect up to 2 GPUs. I have: one pcie 3.0x16 two pcie 1.0x1 I have the 4 way splitter too but doesnt seem to work. Are there any BIOS options I should check to be able to see all 4 GPUs in Windows? [link] [comments] |
