Decided to try my luck solo mining RVN...

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 06:35 AM PDT

I helped my friend build his first rig. Right now, it’s mining 180 MH/s with 47C VRAM. We have two more 1660 Supers coming this week.

New lolMiner 1.32 - LHR Unlock for all LHR - Best performance and Stability for all LHR

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 03:17 PM PDT

A really interesting update on the 1.32

    • Beta Feature: Added RTX 3000 series semi-unlock for LHR v2 cards giving up to 30% more performance then in locked state. Use --mode LHR2 to call it (and --mode LHR1 for 3060 LHR1 cards). Also added a low power LHR mode for V2 cards (--mode LHRLP). See below for more details. Recommended drivers for LHR2 and LHRLP: 470.63.01 or 465.31 - others could be more unstable. Most tests were done in Linux. Use --lhrtune to improve either performance or stability. Read the guide for configuring here: https://github.com/Lolliedieb/lolMiner-releases/wiki/Nvidia-Mode-Switch-&-LHR-Semi-Unlock (2)
    • Improved performance of RTX 3060 LHR v1 semi-unlock by 2-3% depending on configuration - at same low consumption!
    • Added detection of the "fan glitch" for RTX 3000 LHR cards. When the glitch is detected, the GPUs will leave the special LHR modes automatically.

An interesting guide how to configure parameters to get max performance without locking the GPU:

    Guide LHR lolMiner

Most important thing is that Mhs are real not inflate that indicated how much improve we are getting.

The test I made, of course depending memory, normally around 1750-2000 in Linux and GPU Silicion lottery.

    33-34Mhs : 3060 ~105~120W

    40-42Mhs: 3060ti/3070 ~125-140W

    53-55Mhs: 3070ti ~155-170W

    64-69Mhs: 3080 ~ 180 ~210W

    78-80Mhs: 3080ti ~220-240W

To get better results I need to play a little bit more with new LHR mode and the parameter --lhrtune.

Rig switched output GPU and won’t recognize the other gpus. Any recommendations?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 08:19 AM PDT

Hello! My rig was black screened and not mining well so I reset it and realized the graphics output was switched to a different GPU. Once getting visuals back up I realized the remaining GPUs are not active but are detected. Nvidia drivers are failing to update. I'm a little lost on a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

    Would 2 PSUs suffice ro power 6 GPUs - RTX 3060 Ti's?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 07:23 AM PDT

I plan to set up a mining rig and wanted to know if one 850W and one 750W power supply combo would be enough.

Would the two need to be gold rated? If so, what should I expect to spend for good brands such as Corsair & EVGA?

    Best Fan setup?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 06:25 AM PDT

I'm seeing a lot of different methods of cooling so I was wondering if there is a recommended method of where to place your fan on your mining rig? I've seen IO facing fans and back side facing fans, both pulling and pushing so I was just looking for help! GTX 1080s is what I'm mining on

RTX 3060 V2 ETH LHR Unlocker NBMiner VS GMiner VS MiniZ

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 09:46 AM PDT

Thanks to u/H5Sooner u/Greatdum and u/cadaver0 for pointing out that a new version of GMiner was released a few hours after my video and that I should try MiniZ as well.

I tested NBMiner previously, then compare the LHR unlocker results to the new GMiner (released a few hours ago) and MiniZ.

In short, if you want to mine ETH on a RTX 3060 V2 LHR and possibly 3060 TI, 3070 LHR and 3080 LHR, you should use GMiner with locked clock, as it is more efficient and dev fees are lower.

thermal pads + thermal paste directly ON the pads = better surface contact + lower temps

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 11:39 AM PDT

So a little back story, I initially changed my thermal pads on my 3080 and got great results, about 76c-80c memory junction temps while mining at 100mh. Over the months, the temps kept creeping up and by end of summer I was up to 88c mining at 80mh/gpu fans@80%.

1st action taken: disassembled the whole card and cleaned off all the dust. result: 2-3c lower temps.

2nd action taken: ordered 15w/mk thermal pads and reassembled. result: 88c-90c mining at only 80mh/gpu fans@80%!...que panic

3rd action: disassembled the gpu and saw that the 2mm vram pads were barely making contact with the gpu heatsink. (maybe due to slight inaccurate measurements of the non vram thermal pads surrounding the core). So i decided make spreading some cpu paste would give it better contact. result: 72c-76c memory junction temps mining@ 100mh/gpu fans@70%.

    Final thoughts

-hope this post is helpful for some of those who might have had bad luck changing thermal pads due to slight inaccurate pad measurements or info, if you see that the pads arent making contact, adding some cpu paste added a slight layer that could help make full thermal pad contact.

    - for now, im experiencing the lowest temps while mining even with lowered fan speeds as well, even better than the first time i changed pads also

-not sure of long term implications of adding the paste directly on the thermal pads

-theory: 2mm vs 2.5mm pads, i used 2mm 1st time, started at 78c 100mh but after half a year, temps rose to 88c@80mh. I used 2mm both times, i think 2mm is just enough to make contact but after some time, stops making good contact, which might explain the rising temps of my first replacement pads and also the alarming temps of my 2nd try with even higher rated pads. Adding the cpu paste in essence adds thickness and immediately gave me insanely better temps in line with the rating of the new pads. 78c at first with the 12w/mk and now 72-76c with the new 15w/mk. This also might explain why some sources online recommend 2.5mm vs 2mm pads for vram.

    Creating a mining pool

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 09:12 PM PDT

I am interested in developing a mining pool for several reasons. One, for personal knowledge, two, for further network diversification of many coins, three, for a school project.

Unfortunately there aren't many resources available that explains how to accomplish this after a few hours of looking.

I did find two, one for GeekCash that seems to use a forked Bitcoin node, and another that straight up uses the Litecoin node. While this is fine, I was hoping for more recent or less coin specific documentation.

Does anyone here have insight you can share? I appreciate all pointers.

How often do y’all upgrade cards?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 06:13 PM PDT

Every year a newer, faster, more power efficient, more hashilicious line of graphics cards launches. How long do you guys wait between upgrades? Do you upgrade every year, every 2 years, every 3 years, etc?
