Discovered scam less than 24 hours old that's stolen over $130K in ETH

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 06:11 PM PDT

While looking for something to jam out to while cooking I YouTube'd "Ethereum News Live" and found this from a 2014 account with no other videos looping an interview with VB

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OfP56fJsIw

That video directs you to the URL: event-fund.com which says:

    > FUNDAMENTAL RULES

    > To participate you just need to send from 0.5 ETH to 500 ETH to the contribution address and we will immediately send you back 1 ETH to 1,000 ETH (x2) to the address you sent it from.

    The deposit address is: https://etherscan.io/address/0x2473040870Dfac3CF3E3d0bA0d4Ba3b61254d266

    Build my first rig water-cooled

    Build my first rig water-cooled

Late to the party (as I'm always), EIP-1559 and ETH 2.0 coming, a bad ROI anyway, so why not add water-cooling... but it was a nice experience! 93.7MH/s for now.

How to chose virtual difficulty on mining pool (ravenminer)

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:31 AM PDT

I'm mining ravencoin with a titan rtx on the ravenminer pool. I use t-rex. My hash rate is about 38Mh/s. The pool offers different ports with different mining difficulty (0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, 1, .. , 32) and a port with variable difficulty. Now I'm using variable difficulty, by default.

Is there any interest to manually fix this difficulty? How can I check the 'difficulty' that is automatically affected by the pool when using 'vatiable difficulty's.

    GPU hardware tester

    Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:28 AM PDT

Thanks in advance for your help. As my local market is starting to get closer to MSRP on used GPU's, I want to make sure that what I am buying is a working unit. Will it work if I bring plug a riser into a laptop to test before I buy? My thought is to get a cheap PSU and plug it all in and test at the meeting location to confirm before buying. Or are there specific testing units that are available? I have had good luck on ebay and felt secure about their buyer protection, but in person is a few hundred dollars cheaper and no taxes.

Sorry if this is not clear I will answer any questions that are needed to clarify.

Please excuse any typos I am on mobile. Thanks for your help!

    A word of advice

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 11:02 AM PDT

I posted a few days ago about not getting my 3090 to mine or even register on hiveos. It would see the card but not mine. I also have 2 3070 and 2 2070 on that same rig, all other cards would work just not the 3090. I tried bios changes, different risers, different slots on the motherboard.

Here's the advice. A few days prior I had the 3090 in a PC mining on nicehash in garage, in Texas where it's 100 degrees outside, and it was running hot. I have modded 2 other 3090s with no issues, so I proceeded to do the same. This card is a zotac, the other 3090s are different brands. When I was taking the 3090 out, I thought I damaged the motherboard of the PC, because I used a screwdriver to push the securing tab on the board and it slipped and hit the board, so I thought the motherboard was toast, so I put the 3090 in my open frame mining rig on hiveos. But it wouldn't work. I took the card apart today and the thermal pads I used were too thick, so the cooling block wasn't in contact with the GPU and it was overheating instantly. Put 2mm pads instead of 3mm pads and now the 3090 works.

So moral of the story, use the correct thickness of thermal pads, I have been struggling with this card for a week.

GPU repair possible? I‘m missing this capacitor/chip. Tried to Google the description but found nothing. Does anyone here knows more?

Where can one learn the skill to repair gpu's?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 12:53 PM PDT

I can't be a miner due to financial issues but I still want to be part of this community. I have been a consultant for mining and even helped setup really big farms, but the people I work it distance themselves from me the moment things start going good, I don't expect a payment for nothing but I can always maintain the farm and or troubleshoot, I can do level 1 repairs (soldering caps or fuse. I have had 1 successful memory swap too.) But most of these I won't say were professional repairs more like a guess work and getting lucky, like I was gonna swap all the memories until the card worked and luckily the first one was the issue and it got resolved.

I have tried online videos too but none of them make that much sense to me, I think a proper syllabus is what I need and a complete course.

HiveOS Running 2 miners in one rig

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 04:16 PM PDT

I have 4 Nvida cards and one AMD in one rig, would it be possible to run Team Redminer and T-Rex in the same flight sheet? Or is there some other way of doing it?

    trex ccore/mcore vs Afterburner?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 12:10 PM PDT

Any reason to use Afterburner over the built-in params passed into trex? I fiddled with Afterburner some but feels like I have better success simply using the --mcore, --pl, and --mt flags in trex. Any specific reason I should be using Afterburner instead?

Powering my GPU with 1 Split cable or 2 separate cables?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 04:53 PM PDT

I have 2 3090 ftw3s and a evga 1300w power supply. I read it's best to use one cable and not both split ends but instead another cable. I've ran out of cables (4) and need to plug in (6) to the gpus. If I were to use the official split cables that came with the PSU I'd have 8 cables available, should I do this?

Whats your total Return On Investment?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2021 04:41 PM PDT

Im considering getting into this space from a purely financial perspective. Ive been in this space since 2016. I see mining as a safer alternative to owning crypto. I have a large amount of my net worth in btc and let me tell you its stressful. I bought a mining rig back in 2017 but im ashamed to say ive let it sit idle since. That said, I think the roi is too much to look away from. Even if my payback period was 24 month on the card, thats still an absurdly high rate of return considering salvage value on the cards. So can you guys share what your total hardware cost, how much youve made, and how long youve been at it? It would really be helpful for me.

Also, what would it be like to manage a mining farm of about 100 rigs each with 6 mid end cards? I would have to rent a dedicated space. My electric cost is around 9 cents/kwh. Theoretically say I buy 600 1080ti graphics cards, that each make $2.50 per day (for approx $600/ card). A mining calculator tells me I could make almost $6/ day with that card after electric costs, but im discounting that rate for this hypothetical because I know this bull market wont last forever. So now theoretically this rig is bringing in north of 500k a year. Say this goes on for 3 years. Ive made 1.5 million from the cards plus they have scrap value. Call the scrap value 50% of what you paid, so 180,000. After 3 years im left with 1.68 million off an initial investment of 360k.

If I was gonna do this, I would snatch up gpus for pennies on the dollar right after eth switches to PoS. Id be sitting on the sideline with a bag of cash buying the panic sell. Right now this is all just a day dream. Feel free to poke holes in it wherever you see fit.

note: In an effort to avoid getting scammed I straight up wont be responding to any private messages or chats.
