I guess my story is too long so read my reply to this post. I dont really want to shorten it lol

What do you think about the house fan positioning? The white fan in the middle is rotating. The two Black are not rotating. The hottest GPU is the evga 3080 on the right, with 90/94 degrees of vram.

Bought a grow tent, temperature now worse

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 07:26 PM PDT

    Rig:

    - Veddha T2

    - 5x RTX 3080, 1x RTX 3090

    - 1.6 Kw (including mobo, cpu, etc)

    Tent:

    - AC Infinity 24" x 24" x 48" grow tent

    - AC Infinity Cloudline T6, 402 CFM as exhaust inline fan

    - No active intake fan, passive

Currently GPU rig located at the very bottom of the tent. Temperature difference is worse, around 8deg celcius worse than with a grow tent. When I open the grow tent door though, temperature back to what I expect. For example, my RTX 3090 memory temperature when opening the tent is around 86 to 88deg celcius, and when I close the tent it shoot up to 96deg celcius and probably more as day goes by.

    What I'm thinking to improve:

    - Add active intake fan

    - Get a platform to raise the level of the rig so it is closer to exhaust fan (does this matter)?

    Any other suggestions?

Dual CPU / 5x GPU Mining Rig - Any Issues To Be Aware of + Recommended Motherboard?

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:46 AM PDT

    Hi All

I am in the process of planning out a dual CPU and GPU mining rig.

Yes, I know CPU mining has bad ROI and I'd be better off buying another GPU, but hear me out - there are two reasons for wanting an above avg CPU.

    1. Prior to CPU mining, I want to plot on HDDs for Chia. I already have the HDDs so there isn't a cost for these and I'd rather use them than leave them empty.
    2. For CPU mining there are a few spec coins I'm interested in so I am not so concerned about the immediate ROI.

With that additional insight, I'm planning on starting at the smaller end of the scale with between 4 - 5 1660Ti's or 1660 Supers depending on how far I can stretch the budget.

I've done a fair bit of Googling and there doesn't seem much (if any) info on using a Ryzen 3900x in a GPU mining build as most of the GPU-specific motherboards obviously leverage intel CPUs.

I have however read general PC builder threads commenting on the relatively low number of PCIE lanes with the Ryzen 3xxx's, but don't believe that should be an issue when mining as each GPU can run on as low as 1x PCIE lane, unless I'm mistaken?

So beyond the above I wondering if:

    a) There are any other holes in my plan that I'm missing

    b) If anyone has also built a CPU/GPU mining rig and might have some good recommendations for a motherboard

    Thanks in advance

    Underperforming 3080 ti Troubleshooting.

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:31 AM PDT

First time poster and new rig owner. Every rig has a problem child and this is mine. Im running NiceHash on windows 10 pro? with 1 3090, 3 3080 tis, and 2 3070 tis. Im using Nicehash until i understand HiveOS and set it up. Two of the 3080 tis are EVGAs and run in the 50-60 MH range on Kapow, the third around 44 MH which puts it at an over achieving 3070 ti level. In terms of profitability, the nicehash benchmarks put it at about 30% less profitable than its contemporaries.

OC settings for all cards are +100 core, +1100 mem, 80% power.

The eagle eyed viewers will have noticed i havent stated the problem childs make and model. If i cant fix it, its getting returned and i am not taking and chances.

Overall what should i be looking to play with in order to troubleshoot this? What would you look at to troubleshoot. Was i just unlucky with the silicon lottery?

Why did i get LHR cards? Because they were available.

    52 MH - 2 x 1070 GTX cost $10/MH

Sad that my rig is down, but proud of myself for troubleshooting success.

Sad that my rig is down, but proud of myself for troubleshooting success.

Checked my Hiveos earlier and found my rig had been offline for about 3 hours so I went to investigate and could not get it to restart.

Resetting killswitch on power supply, cycling power button, clearing of CMOS on motherboard; all failed to start my rig. I then connected my motherboard/CPU/RAM to an EVGA 550w G3 fully modular power supply that I had laying around and my PC immediately posted and the CPU fan began to spin.

Seems pretty obvious to me that it must be a PSU problem so I guess it is RMA time.

I could hook up the 550w and just run 1 or 2 cards, or if I was really desperate I could cannibalize my gaming rig's 1000w for the time being but I don't think it is worth the hassle of breaking my stuff down. Maybe I'll give my home's AC an easier time through the rest of this heatwave while I wait for the new PSU.

There are a lot of proof of work coins that are low in profitability or not profitable at all. who is mining them to keep the coin alive and why

How to best vent heat out of my garage mining space?

How to best vent heat out of my garage mining space?

    Hi all,

I'm mining in my garage, as the title says. This is the optimal space for noise, and especially power - since my panel is directly on the other side of the wall where the miners are. It's a 3 car garage, so its about 900sqft.

I also have a gym in one of the car bays which is really why I'm thinking about how to vent out the hot air. It's really hard to work out in there with the ambient temperature. I do have a mini split AC unit I specifically put in there for the gym, but even running it an hour beforehand doesn't significantly cool the space any longer. Obviously I don't want to run the AC 24x7, that's a waste of power.

Since I have a few vents in the garage (the server rack is in front of one, but not completely blocked), would it make sense to run a exhaust turbine out the top duct?

would this impact air circulation if the turbine is ever off, or should I just use duct tape to vent out half of the hot air duct?

Any issues you all would see with this? Very open to feedback.

    Before

    After - Maybe?
