Get in before eth POS or wait until after?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 08:43 AM PDT

In 2 months I'm going to get a fat refund check from my college. I wanna invest 2.5k of it into my first rig. The question is should I buy my rig right away (early october) and mine as much eth before the POS. Or wait for POS and hope people sell their rigs so I can get in cheaper? My main goal is to get my return on investments within 4-6 months. Opinions? Will ppl sell their rigs or will they just flood to other coins.

No signal, no fan, but RGB

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 08:16 AM PDT

Trying to get my new 3080 installed, but the PC doesn't get a signal, the fans don't spin, but the RGB comes on. I put it on a riser in the PC and tried another PCIE slot, nothing.

I was able to get it to mine in HiveOS on the mining rig. But I want it in the PC. Can someone help me make this happen?

    OS: Windows 10
    GPU: 3080
    PSU: EVGA 1K

    New Pads on RTX3080 - 20+mh/s & 20*C Cooler!

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 09:54 AM PDT

When my 3080 was new (About 3 months ago), I was mining ETH at 92mh/s, with the memory overclocked at 400mhz, with fans at 80%, and the Mem temps were around 94C. About a week or two ago, the memory temps started raising to over 104C, so I ended up having to put the memory at stock settings, put the fans to 95% and my hashrate went down to 78mh/s. I replaced the front and rear memory pads and put new paste on the GPU, and the results are amazing! I am now getting 98mh/s with the mem overclocked by 1200mhz, fans at 80%, and the memory temp is steady at 82C. I think the stock pads sucked in the first place, but also were breaking down. It is amazing what decent thermal pads will do! I used the Thermalright pads and MX-4 paste. I should have done this sooner!

Mining rig crashes after ~10 hours, works again after some tweaking, then crashes again after ~10 hours

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 02:52 PM PDT

This is my first mining rig, and I am thinking it may be a power supply problem, but I wanted to get some input/suggestions as I'm not entirely convinced (though I do already have another PSU ordered and on the way).

    My rig specs:

    MSI MEG x570 Unify Motherboard

AMD Ryzen 5600x CPU - Capped at 50w via Bios

Gigabyte Gaming OC 6700 xt - Core clock lowered to 1250mhz, Memory OC 2150 w/ fast timing enabled (reads 113w in teamredminer)

Sapphire Pulse 5700 xt - Core clock lowered to 1400mhz, memory OC to 1900mhz power limit -20 in wattman (reads 135w in teamredminer)

Sapphire Pulse RX Vega 56 (Samsung HBM2) - Memory tweak tool to change timings, core clock 1000 @ 850mv, mem clock 950 @ 850mv (reads 108w in teamredminer)

Asus TUF RTX 3060 - driver 470.05, Afterburner used to lower core clock - 502 (maximum drop allowed) memory +1200 (8600mhz) power lowered to 75% (reads 125w on trex)

Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W PSU (9 years old)

Windows 10 for the 3060 unlocked drivers.

System is pulling ~725w from the wall.

I have followed the guides on best settings for each card, though I haven't used the red bios editor on my 5700 xt, just wattman.

The 3060, 5700 xt, and 6700 xt are all connected to the 3 PCIe x16 slots via pcie gen4 riser cables (SAM/Resizable BAR enabled and working on all 3, though I have seen minimal if any gains from running with it enabled) and the Vega 56 is connected via pcie x1 to x16 powered riser with USB 3.0 connecting the x1 to x16 slots and molex powering the x16 slot.

So I set everything up gradually, adding the 6700 xt last. Everything had ran with the first 3 cards for ~week solid without any issues. I had problems at first after adding the 6700 xt using a pcie x1 to x16 powered riser as the mobo had trouble reading it at all, but after swapping the vega 56 to the powered x1/x16 riser and placing the 6700 xt on the pcie x16 slot with an x16 4.0 riser, everything was fine and the vega 56 was read by the mobo without issue (tested over and over powering off and on/restarting several times, mining off and on several times without any issues at all) for about 60 hours, then early this morning around 1AM while I was at work, the miner went down. When I got home, I saw that it had restarted so I logged in, loaded all my mining settings and started teamredminer and trex like i have been and as soon as the cards revved up, it crashed. This time it did not restart and sat powered on with a black screen. I powered it off, checked all the cables/risers and reseated all of them along with reseating all power cables to the cards and powered riser. it was off for maybe 20 - 30 minutes while I did this. Turned it back on and viola, back in action. About 10 hours later, just as I was waking up today, it was off again at the black screen while having power. So I decided to do some trouble shooting. Turned it on, set my settings again, and tried each card individually on Gminer. each worked no problem by itself. Started just teamredminer with the 3 AMD cards and immediately it crashed again. Okay, so it must be an AMD card or the PSU I figured... So I connected the 5700 xt to a different 500w EVGA PSU and left all other cards on the 1000w. Started teamreadminer and immediately it crashed again. So I figured it still could be the 1000w and ordered another. I let it sit for a while, disconnected the 500w PSU, reconnected the 5700 xt to the 1000w and still left it off. I just turned it back on with everything on the 1000w after letting it sit off for about an hour and it's back to mining like no problem. I have checked all connections, they're good, I have tried forcing PCIe gen 4 through 1 and still had the crashes unless I let it sit for a while. I've tried different AMD driver versions and it still crashed. So letting it sit for a while is the only thing that fixes it and it's just temporary. Am I right assuming its the PSU or anyone have any other ideas at all? I appreciate any help anyone may be able to provide or tips on anything to check. I have an asus rog strix 1000w 80+ gold on the way btw. I couldn't find any miner reviews on it, but it seems solid with japanese capacitors so maybe that will fix my problem. It just seemed odd that it still crashed with my 5700 xt (highest power usage card) taken off the 1000w and placed on its own PSU, but then letting the rig sit without power for a while with all the cards on the 1000w PSU works at least temporarily. Thats the only thing making me second guess the PSU problem. But the PSU is 9 years old and has served as my test bench PSU for about a year now and before that was in a gaming PC that maybe used half that power for about 5 years, then sat in a closet for another 3 years before being placed on my test bench. Anyway, thanks for any help anyone may have to offer here...This is my first mining rig, though I have a business building high end to low end gaming/streamin PCs and am very very familiar with the hardware involved/troubleshooting/whatnot.

E: Here are some pics of the rig https://photos.app.goo.gl/gGxZmSf1KqHxrCTR8 one of the pics is before I swapped the 6700 XT and Vega 56, but posting so you can see it from another angle

Here are some links to my stats on ethermine as well: https://ibb.co/djSwpSH https://ibb.co/Jm5LqMg

Edit:. Like clock work system crashed at 0156 exactly 10 hours after I started mining down to the minute (began at 1556) . I received my 1000w segotep switching PSU that's actually an upgrade for my personal PC and have throw it into the rig. I'm DDU all drivers to reinstall and I will start the miner before I go to bed. If it makes it over 12 hours, I'll know the PSU was the issue and will install the rig Strix 1000w when it arrives Sunday. The cooler master 1000w made a crackle and flashed a spark when I flipped the switch on the PSU to off. So yeah, even if the PSU wasn't the issue it definitely has an issue and this just furthers my suspicion that it is the problem. I guess we will see in roughly 12 hours.
