Biggest DEFI Attack (Poly Network Hack) Explained In A Simple Video

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 05:35 AM PDT

    Hey guys!

I've made a video about t the recent huge DEFI attack on Poly Network.

$600M has been stolen and then returned.

We will cover in the video what is a cross-chain network is, how the attack happened, and we will see some super interesting conversations between the attacker to other people on the Ethereum blockchain transactions.

    Here is the video:

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks <3

Solving problems for the entertainment industry

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 05:56 PM PDT

There was a post a few months ago that had me thinking. Entertainment is still a field that crypto hasn't truly disrupted yet (with regards to quality, in-house, exclusive pictures like a decentralized Netflix).

I'm aware of a few projects that are working on enabling streaming on-chain, but I don't see how this would be able to scale in any appreciable manner. Rather than streaming the content, would it be possible to host the video itself off-chain on a server, but allow on-chain trading of the "rights" to view the show/movie within the app?

As far as problems that this could solve (if the technology could support it), the core proposition is disintermediation. Rather than big content owners like YouTube/Netflix getting all the profits, more of that profit goes directly to the content owner/film producer. This in turn means we wouldn't have to use an ad-based model and could charge a *much* lower monthly rate than services like Netflix (say, $1USD vs $8.99). Currently, creators are being rewarded less, advertising time (or subscription price) keeps going up, and directors are inherently censored as they have to conform to production agencies.

Also, could AMM/liquidity pools be used to provide value directly to the creator? If every subscriber was given 5 coins to spend, and the platform allows the creator to easily launch a liquidity pool, the "value" of each pool is directly tied to the viewership and the amount of trading that is done within the pool. Thus, directors that produce the highest quality content are naturally selected-for on the platform. Theoretically, this could enable the next Game of Thrones or Witcher to naturally emerge in a self-fueled flywheel.

Where are the holes in this theory?

Understanding wallet security with seed phrases/secret keys

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 08:41 PM PDT

Hey everyone, apologies if this has been asked before but I've searched around and couldn't find anything on the topic.

Basically, I'm trying to understand the specific details of how your wallet is kept secure via seed phrases. Once input into a software or hardware wallet, from what I understand, a secret key is generated which is then used to sign off on transactions, correct?

So in the case of a software wallet:

    1. Is this secret key located on your harddrive?
    2. If so, can this secret key be copied by a computer virus and thus, your wallet can be stolen even without your seed phrases?

In the case of a hardware wallet:

    1. Every time you transact, you'd still have to export your secret key from your hardware wallet to your computer. Does this mean if your computer is infected with a virus, that secret key can be intercepted and then used to sign other transactions?

Help: Trouble with Multi-Sig Wallet private key

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 11:57 AM PDT

    Hello,

An old ETH ICO participant here. I sold 95% of my ETH too early back in 2017 😅 & have some locked up in a multi-sig wallet created from Mist which I need help recovering

I created a multi-sig wallet (4-sig out of-5) with 4 other newly created wallets in 2017 for additional security before checking out of the scene.

I tried to access the wallet recently and haven't had much luck as the Mist wallet has been deprecated. I tried using the myCrypto API and it seems, though I have all the correct passwords for the 4 other wallets + genesis wallet that are all part of the multi-sig, the private key for the multi-sig doesn't recognize any of the passwords except the genesis pw (I can upload the UTC file and use the genesis wallet's password & all other 4 wallets return as invalid pw's)

Is there a way I can brute-force different permutation of the multi-sig wallet with MyCrypto API locally or revoke access/ownership of all 4 other wallets with the genesis wallet & merge it into a single wallet?

Thanks so much for reading & your help! If you'd be so kind to suggest other means, I'd greatly appreciate the help!

    Best
