Eth 2.0 and "what will happen to your ETH"

    Posted: 07 May 2021 08:34 AM PDT

Can we get a sticky regarding this topic? It'd clear up the daily convo on this sub a great deal.

    What is ETH 2.0?:

A series of upgrades to the Ethereum network explained here.

Do I have to do anything?:

No. This is an update to the network itself, Ether held in your wallet or on an exchange or anywhere else is still the same after the merge.

What will happen to the price?:

    Who knows.

    When will it be released?:

At some point in the future. ETH2 is series of features/fixes with separate development work and release dates. PoS itself might see an accelerated release this year but there are no guarantees. You can follow the Ethereum dev teams work if you wish to keep closer tabs.

Answers to all of these questions can be found on the ethereum.org site.

Teller awards $50K to whitehat hacker for disclosing critical vulnerability

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 08:15 AM PDT

Whitehat Bugdefeat disclosed a critical vulnerability in Teller to Immunefi on July 30. That vulnerability, which consisted of an uninitialized proxy, could have led to a loss of more than 1 million DAI if exploited. No user funds were lost, and the vulnerability has been patched. Although Teller didn't have a bug bounty program at the time of the report, they are awarding the whitehat with a $50,000 bounty. Since more than 1 million in funds were at risk, the whitehat will also receive the Founders Bounty, offered by ArmorFi CTO Robert Forster via Immunefi. The Founders Bounty is a reward of 125,000 ARMOR tokens, vested over 24 months, which is given out to any hacker who finds a vulnerability in any live Ethereum project where more than 1 million in funds is at risk.

After this stunning success with responsible disclosure, Teller is joining Immunefi with a bug bounty today, featuring a $50,000 award for critical vulnerabilities. You can find more details on Teller's bug bounty page.

    The merge & EIP 3675

    Posted: 09 Aug 2021 12:23 PM PDT

    The merge & EIP 3675

The merge from Eth1 to Eth2 will come soon, but with such a massive change, there will be many issues that pop up. This EIP covers not only the merge itself, but also changes made to make sure this as smooth as possible.

What if the PoS chain gets linked onto a minority fork?

This could happen if the block number was hard coded into the EIP and a malicious miner created a fork by proposing the exact block number on a transaction and it would be a mess.

    https://preview.redd.it/ni9bcbzludg71.png?width=539&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa205722e0a801d43910dc7108ec73c0d3db1fb4

Thankfully, we don't have to worry about this as it's the difficulty that is hard coded into the EIP that determines when the terminal PoW block gets mined and when the first PoS block (the transition block) begins.

    What about existing smart contracts?

As part of the upgrade, several opcodes will be deprecated, and new ones added in.

One notable deprecation that will affect quite a few contracts is the difficulty opcode, which will be set to 0.

Another area of concern is randomness. If your smart contract relied on block hash for pseudo-randomness, it's even more insecure under PoS since block proposers can change the block number.

We're just as excited as you are about the merge, so follow us for more threads like these. Thanks to u/EthCatHerders and u/mkalinin2 for the info and the image this thread was based on: https://youtu.be/zNIrIninMgg
