Future of the GPU Mining Community

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 03:02 PM PDT

Many people are very concerned about the future of GPU crypto mining due to the ETH2 fork that will transition Ethereum to proof-of-stake. It seems that many people believe their GPU investments will be gone in the near future. There are a few things to consider though.

One being; are there any other profitable ways to sell the computing power our GPUs offer? There is a large transition, or at least attempt to transition, to cloud gaming. Rented computing power will not be completely gone even if proof of work vanishes completely (which is very unlikely anyway). I would like to hear some of your thoughts on this. In addition to cloud gaming, there may be other ways to sell computing power from GPUs.

The other being Ethereum Classic/ETC. ETC will continue to be proof-of-work, and is mined using the daggerhashimoto algorithm just like Ethereum is currently. If ETC sees a large bump, this can lead to a brighter future for mining.

I am posting this mostly as an open discussion because I see many people freaking out. Instead of panicking, I think we should use the foresight many people on this subreddit have and use it to help the community pivot.

Something backfeeding MB and PSU- is this normal?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 05:41 PM PDT

Rig- H110 Pro BTC+, 10 AMD cards on risers powered by dedicated HP server PSUs, 5 on one HP server 12v PSU, 5 on the other.

MB and risers are all powered by the SAME ATX power supply.

When I kill power to the MB ATX PSU via the PSU switch, the PSU cooling fan and CPU fan go to 100% until I unplug the server PSUs. I'm assuming the MB is getting backfed from the server PSUs that are plugged into the GPUs? I'm concerned this is causing issues in the MB PSU attempting to stabilize the 12v and fighting the server PSUs through the backfeed.

Help needed, 2 3070s, same computers, two very different hashrates

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 04:55 PM PDT

So, I have two Alienware M17 r4s, one I have to send back because the trackpad is bad, and the new one they sent me.

So, my old one hashed Ergo at 170mh/s and Eth around 68 MH/s, and the new one (which is the same in every respect except they sent me the 360hz screen instead of 144hz), only hashes at 110mh/s and 50mh/s respectively. All the settings I could think of are the same, whether it be overclocking, drivers, miners etc. What am I missing here?

In NB miner the only difference is the hash (obviously) and the MUtl, which is 40 on the old one and 27 on the new one. I'm assuming that has to be part of the problem but I can't figure out how to change it. Any advice? It's bugging me to no end.

    Help with Nvidia 3060

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 03:56 PM PDT

    Hi all,

First post here. Love all those multi GPU rigs that I see around on the subreddit. I am just jumping into GPU mining and have a gaming desktop that uses a single card Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060

I have been reading a lot that the new drivers from Nvidia limit the hash rate and cut it down by 50%. I tried installing the developer version that is being mentioned (v 470.05) that does not have the hash limiting. However, changing the drivers does not help to increase the hash rate.

Hash rate: 20Mh using Unminable using ETHash on Windows 10, 64 bit. My understanding is that the expected hash rate is around 40Mh

    Help and guidance appreciated.

finally getting in the mining game, MiningOS recommendations

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 03:44 PM PDT

I finally cracked after watching reddit post in the background and bought a mining rig from miningcave, after doing some research on parts it was simply more efficient to buy the rig as im sure all u know, parts are almost always sold out, or crazy expensive. But I am happy with it and excited to get start, the rig comes with HiveOS, do you guys recommend i stay with it or switch, im pretty tech savvy and built a tons of PCs so i don't think i will have much of a problem setting up or switching over

Is it worth more to mine ETC or RVN instead of ETH for hobby miner?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 03:06 PM PDT

I'm just a hobby miner, mining when using the pc anyway or during work occasionally with my RTX 3070 and my GTX 1060. The minimum ETH payout threshold of 0.01 (if I don't want to get paid in Polygon) would take me about 6 days of straight mining to achieve. Would you say it's even worth it at this point or should I rather consider mining something like ETC or RVN?

I do enjoy mining alot, but I also want to sometimes see results coming instead of always having to wait like 3 weeks for a payout.

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 02:05 PM PDT

Sorry guys, but I'm out, with the London fork around the corner, I'd rather sell my cards while they are double the price i bought them at before we have another 2018. It was fun while it lasted, will only keep mining on my last card.

I will finally be able to sleep without earplugs again :)

Top Programs for Monitoring Multiple Memory Junction Temperatures?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 09:13 AM PDT

I am running a rig with multiple RTX 3000 series GPUs and working on cooling them off properly. Most mining programs such as NiceHash and NBMiner only show GPU core temperature.

In order to check memory junction temperature, a third party program is needed. I am looking for some sort of program that shows the memory junction temperatures of multiple GPUs quickly and efficiently. (HWInfo requires going through different pages)

Side question: Is there any way to set fan speeds based on memory junction temps rather than core temp?

Do you guys care about the RTX 3080 ti and RTX 3070 ti?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 12:09 PM PDT

Well since Nvidia limited the hashrate on those cards. And some tests show hashrate around 65~ for 3080ti, is it still worth buying for you? Do you think they will bypass the limiter just like the 3060 even though its hardware limited?

    A tutorial for Dogecoin

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 11:32 AM PDT

    Hi guys!

I recently started mining dogecoin and realized that there not many good tutorials.

So, if you want to mine dogecoin the best way to do it is through a Unmineable pool, you do not need to use their miner because it is very inneficient, the way that I found simpler and more efficient is using NBminer.

First you download NBminer in this link:

    https://github.com/NebuTech/NBMiner/releases

Then you unzip it, in the NBminer folder you create a new txt file, with the following (without the Quotation marks):

    "nbminer.exe -a ethash -o stratum+tcp://ethash.unmineable.com:3333 -u COIN:YOURADDRESS.WORKER_NAME -log

    pause"

Be sure to change COIN (to DOGE), YOURADDRESS and WORKER_NAME.

Then just save that file as a bat file, for example start.bat. And done, just click it and it will start mining. You can check your stats at https://unmineable.com/coins , click on "Address" and enter your wallet address.

    Some FYI:

If you want to farm doge with a GPU >4 just change the file to this one:
    nbminer.exe -a etchash -o stratum+tcp://etchash.unmineable.com:3333 -u COIN:YOURADDRESS.WORKER_NAME -log

    pause

The walltet I use is Exodus, but you can use any other wallet that you desire.

And yeah that's it. To this moment NBminer has been the easiest to use and the most efficient of the ones I have used.

If this tutorial was useful please use this reference code so we can help each other:

    https://unmineable.com/?ref=llac-olwf

The reference code can be entered at the stats page.

    RX 580 won't go past 25MH/s

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 10:39 AM PDT

    Hey,

I just got an Asus RX 580 8Gb OC with Hynix memory that can't get past 25MH/s. I'm using Crimson Beta driver and MSI afterburner 4.6.3. The bios is stock and it doesn't seem the card has a physical bios switch. Mining software is lolMiner and I'm on Win10.

    OC settings:

    Core voltage: +850mV

Power limit: -40% (Saw a couple of videos that on HiveOS it consumes around 80W ~85W)

    Core Clock: 1150MHz

    Memory Clock: 2150MHz

One thing to note is that it seems the core voltage and the core clock don't seem to affect the hashrate. MSI displays around 870 MHz for cclock and 0mV for core voltage even after applying the values.

Best Ryzen Compatible Motherboards for Mining

    Posted: 08 Jun 2021 09:46 AM PDT

I am looking for a motherboard compatible with an AMD Ryzen 3600 CPU. What would the recommended ones be? Most online are compatible with Intel only, and the B350 chipset boards were discontinued by MSI. Would I be better off going with an intel CPU?
