My mining progress over 1 month.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 06:44 AM PDT

Hi guys, I've been mining on my oem dell 1660ti for just over a month now and am getting pretty good results. I've over clocked it to - 275 core clock, +1000 memory clock, power limit is 60 and fan speed 65. I'm getting 30.65 mh/s, power of 72w and efficiency of 425.64.

My question is, would I be better using different mining software (I'm currently using gminer mining eth) and would it make a big difference if I switched from 2miners to ethermine?

Also, I've read that my computer (dell 8930) can't have another graphics card in it but then I've also read that you can get round this with a pci USB adapter. I'm wondering which is true lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post, please let me k ow if it would be better somewhere else. Thank you!

    Fruits of your mining

I've been mining since 2018 and spent some of my mined coins for the first time. What have other people splurged their hard earned coins on?

Is LHR a fixed limit or does it scale with clock speeds for instance?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 06:48 AM PDT

Could you under clock a GPU to save power and still get the LHR limit of like 50-60 MH/s or does it scale down with the clock speed?

**Rant** Pressure From Friends to Sell

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:15 AM PDT

I'm just needing a place to vent a little bit, but also wondering how others deal with this issue. We all know the GPU market has been hit pretty hard due to supply chain issues, making GPU's hot commodities attracting scalpers, and with a lot of gamers having skipped the last upgrade cycle waiting for this one. My best friend is a huge gamer, very extrovert, plays tons of games with lots of gamer friends. I happened into mining ETH by chance. I was a bitcoin miner back in the very early days where BTC was $6-$17, but got into other stuff and working and didn't think much of it again.

I first started mining at the beginning of the year as a way to pay for a fancy new graphics card. Shortly after that my wife lost her job and I was still in school making TA wages. We have savings, and my thought was either we spend down the savings to cover monthly expenses, or we take that and throw it into mining equipment to cover our monthly expenses. As things happened I got started with the mining and about a week later I got a job offer, so I didn't scale up my mining operation as there was less of a need for it, but I have my small 8 card rig.

What's been the most frustrating part in all of this is my friend. Constantly asking when I'll sell some of the cards because he has friend A he plays games with who finally built a computer and just needs a GPU. This goes on for a couple weeks, the 3060 comes out, I happen to get one, and decide to sell it to his friend to hopefully shut my friend up about it.

Then a month later his brother got a promotion, wants to get a GPU, is looking at putting $1000 on a 3070 or something because he can't find one, and is again asking when I'm going to sell. This goes on for a week or so, I assume his brother just bought one for $1000, as I haven't heard much more from him about it.

Then a couple weeks ago yet another fucking friend needs a GPU, is about to spend $1000 on Amazon or something for a 6700, and wondering when I'm going to sell. I just about caved in on this one, but I guess he pulled the trigger on the 6700.

This has been mentally draining on me. It's very frustrating that he keeps coming to me with yet another friend. It's not like I'm printing GPU's in the basement, or I have some secret way of purchasing GPU's at MSRP. If GPU's were easy to come by I might even think of scaling my rigs up, but they aren't. But it makes me feel like I'm some horrible person for having early on (not as early as I should have) gotten in on purchasing some cards before it got way too crazy, and not selling my cards to them because somehow their "need" to play video games somehow trumps my own usage of them. It seems like some people don't take into account how much I had to put into trying to get these cards, and why shouldn't I be able to use them how I see fit and just say no? I'm not the problem, the scalpers are the problem. Personally I'd love to see the retailers be able to set up sensible policies to get every gamer a card at MSRP and take away the market for resellers. But me having 8 cards shouldn't be a big deal.

Anyway, I just had to get this off my chest. I'll just have to play this like I do with any other wealth I have and just not discuss it with anyone as all that seems to do is make people not just jealous, but sometimes resentful.

Should I buy 3080 FE or 3080 Ti FE? ($250 difference)

Got into gpu mining recently, mining eth of course. Have some questions.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:09 AM PDT

I recently got into mining and wanted to know, will mining always be this profitable? Like after eth does EIP 1559 and 2.0 what comes next? What do you guys think of raven coin or beam? Can I mine to a ledger without having to plug it in? (getting a ledger soon) like do I have to update it every transaction or deposit?

Worse temps after changing 3080 thermal pads. I'm freaking out a bit, please help.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:25 AM PDT

I recently got the Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC which I had heard had problems with memory temperatures. Sure enough, I couldn't get hashrates above 83 and my memory temperature was hitting 110 causing throttling.

    I ordered some 2 mm and 3 mm 6 W/mk pads here.

I also got Arctic MX-4 thermal paste

I put the 3 mm on the backplate side over the memory. I also used 3mm on the copper plate but 2mm everywhere else initially but after having problems I opened it back up and put 2mm on the copper plate as well. I spread out the thermal paste with a spatula.

It seems like the memory temps definitely did go down. Instead of 110, it was more like 90 which isn't amazing but still a lot better. The GPU temp however, (which used to mine around 54 C) is now idling at about 60 C and got up to 85 C after about 15 seconds of mining so I stopped it. With the 3mm pads, I think it was idling around 70 so switching to 2mm did help I believe.

What could be the problem here? As I said I switched down to having 2mm thickness everywhere on the front side. I know that the factory probably had some 1.5 or even 1 thrown in there but many people have been getting great results with 2 mm. Is it just that I picked cheap pads? Or is the thermal paste not good? Is it possible I was too aggressive with cleaning the copper plate?

Also sad side note: I broke the RGB connector when trying to pull it out so now my warranty is good as gone and I don't have RGB either... I tried fixing it with solder but it didn't work. Show some pity on me and help me out haha.

So I got this error that translates as "The in/out operation was stopped due to a thread shutdown or at the request of an application". The error comes and goes and I cant find any information on how to solve the issue. Mining ETH on Ethermine us1 with OC'd 2070 in a gaming PC.

    Heat shield for GPU Mining

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:57 PM PDT

One of my mining rigs is close to a curtain and a couch. It needs to be there due to space, is there any sort of flat panel material I can by that doesn't transmit heat if anything ever goes wrong?

Ideally I'm looking for someone cost effective, low heat transfer, and flame resistant (just in case)

Will an overclocked mining GPU damage itself when I go gaming?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:35 PM PDT

I'm using an rtx 3060 right now, overclocked with +1300 mem for mining at arounc 60C. Let's say I also use it for gaming after I mine, will my overclocked mining affect the GPU health/performance when I'm gaming? I mean, will it deteriorate the GPU in such a way that I won't be able to use it for gaming next year? When gaming, I'm sitting at 50-65C without overclock.

Has anyone tried running a low requirements game like brawlhalla or valorant as a workaround while mining on a Nvidia LHR GPU ?

I am thinking of buying two ridiculously overpriced RTX 3080 ti and wanted to know wether running a low requirements game while mining could fool the hash rate limiter.

Is there a pool that specializes in newest coins?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 06:05 PM PDT

Is there a riskier pool that specializes in brand new coins, before they become popular and are easier to mine? Maybe a pool that picks the best new coin announced that week or month, mines it for a week/month then moves on to the next one. I'm fine if 90% of them are much less profitable than eth, but some eventually have a chance of over 100 times what eth would have increased in a few years.

Do you mine when on paper at current market rates it isn't valuable? If so - why?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 11:48 AM PDT

Simply question, looking for folks thoughts on why they mine when it isnt "profitable" to do so with market value and electrical costs/etc etc.

    Best drivers for NVidia cards?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 02:39 PM PDT

Hi, m8s! I have one rig with 10 GTX 1070, one GTX 1070Ti and 1 GTX 1080. Total 12 NVidia cards. I am on Windows 10 and using the latest T-Rex. Rig was mining almost without problems from 2018. Yesterday I decided to update the drivers to the latest ones. That was a big mistake. Now the miner sees only 10 cards, sometimes after reboot 11. The miner reboots all the time. Every time it recommends to reduce the overclocking of the different cards. But my cards are not overclocked. And I can't remember what drivers were before :( So, I want to know what are the best and stable drivers for my cards? Thanks in advance.
