    A Discussion of /gpumining Moderation

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:44 PM PDT

Hope everybody is doing well! This is a good opportunity to check in with the community about how moderation goes in this sub.

Yesterday we got this post shilling the Flux coin on Zelhash algo, along with a vote brigade courtesy of the Flux discord.

To get to the point, we don't allow pumping and shilling in this subreddit. You can say that this is a more heavily moderated subreddit than other similar ones, we take pride in that. See our sub's 10 simple rules here. If you're coming into this sub to shill, you will be banned - in fact we probably ban anywhere from 5 to 15 spam accounts per day. No sweat off my back, take that shit elsewhere: /r/cryptomining, /r/NiceHash, and /r/altcoinmining are all similar subreddits with less moderation. /r/EtherMining has similarly "strict" moderation.

I ask that you continue to use the 'mod report' feature for shill/spam posts, exactly like you had done with the Flux post, and we have automated and manual controls in place to reduce these posts.

Similarly, yes if you read the rules you'd see common themes about "low-effort" posts. When a user asks "What Do I Mine with My 1070?!" then we will delete that post. Posts like that clutter our feed here, and have been answered already. We expect people to do their due diligence. DYOR. A screenshot post asking "What does this mean!?" will usually get taken down too, because that post doesn't help the community - it helps one person. If the post had provided a clear title and more information, then the community could have benefited.

To summarize, this sub is NOT for shilling nor for hand-holding. We appreciate enlightened discussions here and do our best to make that happen.

That being said, I've been with you guys for 4+ years now - this sub, along with the entire crypto-sphere, has only gotten better and it's been a thrill riding the waves with you all! If you've got suggestions for this sub we'd love to hear them, keeping in mind this sub is very established and comfortable operating the way it currently does. But never be complacent - there's always room for improvement.

RTX 3080 Ti Hashrate - Mining Performance - Nvidia Founders Edition

RTX 3080 Ti Hashrate - Mining Performance - Nvidia Founders Edition

Test Bench Specs: Intel Core i3-10100, Asrock B460M ITX/AC, Corsair Vengeance LPX 8 GB, Silicon Power Ace A55 256GB SSD, EVGA SuperNova GA 850 Watt, all in Thermaltake Core P1 Mini ITX case.

    Hey Everyone,

I hope you are doing well, earlier today I had the opportunity to test the RTX 3080 Ti Mining performance and provide the hash rate data to the community. This was thanks to TekShinji who I have linked below, please go check out their channel when you have a moment. I did a Livestream of my testing, but couldn't do every single Algo. I will do my usual summary video in the future, and both will be linked below.

Livestream (please help by hitting the like button, as many dislike due to anger):

    https://youtu.be/CR37ZeQg0EM

    Summary video: (coming soon):

Check out TekShinji's Youtube channel (fellow miner who allowed us to test):

    https://www.youtube.com/c/tekshinji

In summary, Ethereum seems to be the only Algo that is limited while the others seem to perform as normal. However, in my testing, I noticed that some Algos the Ti actually loses out to the Non-Ti, but not sure why. The community is working on unlocking, but nothing definitive yet so stay tuned.

    Driver: 466.63

    Ambient Air Temp: 78 F

With the Stock fan curve on Founders Edition, 3080 memory temps can get really warm, nearing the T-junction cap. Hottest I saw was 104C, so recommend setting an aggressive but manageable fan curve.

3060 470.05 drivers - install error “This DCH driver package is not compatible with the currently installed version of Windows…” please help

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 12:48 AM PDT

    Little background

    Windows 10 20H2 19042.1023

    GTX 3060

I before I uninstalled the uninstalled the latest public drivers I doubled checked to see I did have the DCH version drivers installed.

I tried to installed the 470.05 on top of the current drivers - that didn't work same error.

I used in safe mode DDU to remove the current drivers than tried installed 470.05 - that didn't work same error

I made sure auto download manufacturers apps was disabled ran DDU again than rebooted and rebooted again into safe mode and ran DDU without restarting and tried to install the 470.05 driver while still in safe mode - did not work same error.

If anyone has any ideas for how to fix this issue I'm all ears I would love to get this drivers installed and get this thing up and running. Any help is deeply appreciate.

    RTX 2080ti 24/7 temperature 24/7

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 03:46 AM PDT

I recently built an ETH mining rig and my GPU is running at ~82C without air-conditioning, around 78C with air-conditioning. I wonder if this is ok to be running 24/7.

    PSU: 650W Gold

    GPU: 2080ti @ 150W limit

    Memory Clock Delta: +1000

    Core Clock Delta: -250

Mining with Nicehash Quickminer (Excavator v1.7.1d) on Daggerhashimoto

    Driver: 27.21.14.6259

Open case with no fan (I tried blowing the rig with an external home-use fan, but the temp. only drops around ~0.6-1C)

    When mining:

Core temp. ~56C, Hot spot: ~82C

    57.3 MH @ ~150W

    Fan 1 & 2 both running at 100%

And how can I improve my cooling? I have heard that cards can withstand temperature even higher than 85, is it true?

    RTX 2070 stopped working

Hey, so my RTX 2070 have been running for like 2 days, and now this happens:

    https://preview.redd.it/wch60qxp0g371.png?width=1407&format=png&auto=webp&s=555225f0e1913a47bcfa7bc1a29f676d9c083171

It's running 5.4.0-hiveos #108 kernel, 850W PSU and all the overclocking is set to 0, also what i noticed is that OS isn't getting any information from the GPU (fan speeds, power draw etc) i'll be grateful for any possible solutions

Is my gaming pc using full wattage when idle

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 01:10 AM PDT

So I have an i7-10700kf, rtx 3080, 16gb of ram, 512gb nvme and a 750w power supply. I'm planning to leave it to mine 24/7 on it cause I don't need to use it or hardly game right now cause I'm busy with other things. My question is is it using all that wattage when it's idle? My gpu is at 230w and I don't know about the other stuff. Electricity costs 0.30€ here and I'm never gonna hit roi if it's costing me 150-200€ a month just to keep it on. Thank you.

Is there any website to assist us new miners? Prices have been going crazy, is there is. Build you would recommend? I plan on adding more rx580s to that build but I dont know where to start. Thanks for reading in advance

Did my fanless GPU fry my PSU?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:46 PM PDT

One of my Zotac 1070 Minis' fan died (not completely dead, but one of them is spinning slower and making a rattling noise that can be heard from the entire house, and the other is constantly at 100%), so I wanted to try removing the shroud and adding a case fan that I have lying around.

So I did just that, making sure to remove the heatsink, clean and reapply thermal paste to the GPU, and ended up with this beautiful monstrosity.

HOWEVER, when I plugged it to my rig, something weird happened. I had 7x GTX 1070s on it previously, five running off the 1000W "main" PSU (also connected to the CPU, mobo, and those 5 cards' risers) and two in a secondary 850W PSU (that's connected to the primary with an add2psu adapter) along with their risers.

So I connected this card, its riser and the attached case fan to the 850W PSU and powered the rig on. Then I saw those 3 cards' fans spin for less than a second and stop, and when the rig booted only the GPUs connected to the primary PSU were visible in the OS.

Turned everything off, removed the frankenstein card, turned it on again and the 850W cards still wouldn't work. The PSU fan wasn't spinning either.

Then I tried plugging those 2 other GPUs to the main PSU, and everything worked. This is what got me thinking the 850W PSU may have been compromised.

Could a card without the stock fan somehow damage the PSU? Should I place some kind of "jumper" where the OEM fan power plug used to be?

TLDR: replaced broken GPU fans with case fan, PSU that was powering this GPU apparently stopped working. How do you usually replace broken GPU fans with case fans?

Now, I want to flash the card back to stock bios however when using amdvbflash it says "Subsystem IDs Mismatch". I've already downloaded the correct BIOS. Here is GPUZ and here is my GPU. Its showing (100267DF - 1682C570) which is an XFX 570 8GB on google search. It should be (100267DF - 10430588) based on TechPowerUpBIOS. Just wanted to ask some help regarding my situation :\

    Miners affecting temperature?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 09:39 PM PDT

Just a question: But would you expect 2 mining rigs of 3070s (undervolted to recommended settings) each with 10-12 of them in an 1800 sq ft house to affect the temperature of the whole house?

Ones in the living room; just across the room from the thermostat; the other is in the basement.

    T-REX Absolute Core Clock

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:27 PM PDT

I tried using T-rex miner new absolute core clock setting with my 2080ti and 2070S. I used the recommended values for 2070 super (--lock-cclock 1000-1050) and others, but while it decreased my watts by a lot (119-->99) it also decreased MH/s (44.6-->42).

Also values I tried didn't change anything for 2080Ti and I could not find any recommended values online.

    Thanks for any help.

    My OC before:

    2070S

    • Power 55%
    • CClock -170
    • MClock 1250

    2080Ti

    • Power 55%
    • Cclock -200
    • Mclock 1400

discrepancy between reported t-rex v0.20.4 MH/s in linux and windows

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:19 PM PDT

I'm using hwinfo in windows to do thermal benchmark for a linux rig with overclocking configured like:

    me@pc:~$ sudo nvidia-settings -c :0 -a "[gpu:0]/GPUGraphicsClockOffset[3]=100" -a "[gpu:0]/GPUMemoryTransferRateOffset[3]=1200" -a "[gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1" -a "[fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85" Attribute 'GPUGraphicsClockOffset' (pc:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 100. Attribute 'GPUMemoryTransferRateOffset' (pc:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 1200. Attribute 'GPUFanControlState' (pc:0[gpu:0]) assigned value 1. Attribute 'GPUTargetFanSpeed' (pc:0[fan:0]) assigned value 85.

Note that this output confirms settings are accepted by the card (whose xorg.conf Device block has coolbits 12).

The following hashrate is then recorded by t-rex:

    --------------20210604 12:40:08 --------------- Mining at us1.ethermine.org:14444, diff: 4.29 G GPU #0: PNY RTX 3090 - 107.05 MH/s, [T:59C, P:349W, F:85%, E:308kH/W], 3/3 R:0% Shares/min: 1.409 (Avr. 1.364) Uptime: 2 mins 51 secs | Algo: ethash | T-Rex v0.20.4 WD: 2 mins 51 secs, shares: 3/3

This is much lower than expected, especially because when booting up in windows I get the following in afterburner (after similar uptime, with the exact same offsets and fan speeds):

    --------------20210604 13:11:05 --------------- Mining at us2.ethermine.org:14444, diff: 4.29 G GPU #0: PNY RTX 3090 - 121.37 MH/s, [T:59C, P:349W, F:84%, E:349kH/W], 6/6 R:0% Shares/min: 2.299 (Avr. 1.304) Uptime: 5 mins 1 sec | Algo: ethash | T-Rex v0.20.4 WD: 5 mins 3 secs, shares: 6/6

How can these t-rex reported hashrates be so different?

Trouble with x16-to-x16 molex-powered risers for 3+ RTX 3060 mining rig

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:35 PM PDT

Hi folks, I have a five-slot, 40-lane platform and I'm trying to get a third RTX 3060 up and running. My first two 3060s are working fine with x16-to-x16 unpowered risers. They receive supplemental PCIe power from the board (which has a six-pin power PCIe power input for exactly this purpose). I'm having nothing but trouble with a x16-to-x16 molex-powered riser from modDIY. I've followed the motherboard guide to install it in the correct slot for a 3rd GPU and it's negotiating a Gen 3.0 x8 link per the BIOS. Unfortunately, it's hit-or-miss whether or not it's detected by Windows.

I've only got a single 850W PSU hooked up at the moment. It's consistently detected by Windows when I use a third unpowered riser but it's not stable mining (for obvious reasons).

I'm tempted to cut the ribbon on one powered riser to make it x8-to-x8. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
