GPU Miners! It is time to expand our toolboxes so that we can get involved in the various GPU-minable projects and help them improve their protocols, improve their networks, improve their infrastructure, and ultimately grow their GPU-minable coin's values. By helping improve these coins and their value, we can help make the potential bear market more survivable for all of our operations.

Spend this Summer/Bear-Market learning: Computer Science, Development, Blockchain/CryptoCurrency, Networking, Security, and more!

Remember: CryptoCurrency can always use more Developers! Developers Developers Developers Developers Developers!

The list of Free material consists of courses from Saylor Academy, IBM, The Linux Foundation, Cisco, Texas A&M, and others. All Free to take, and all offering some sort of Free Certification or Digital Badge upon completion. Not only are these great Free learning resources from known and reputable sources, but they also come with sharable proof that you learned them :)

Safe to use a 16A-to-10A permanent adapter on PSU?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 06:07 AM PDT

    Hi all -

My PSU just arrived; as luck would have it, it uses a C19 16A Type F two-pronged cable while all the sockets in my rented apartment at 10A Type J ones. I am now trying to figure out the best way forward in terms of fire safety. As I see it, I have several options:

    1. Return the PSU and get something that works with a C13 connector, which should fit Type J sockets just fine
    2. Put an F-to-J adapter on the C19 cord
    3. Use a C19-to-C13 cord

Any thoughts on what the safer option would be? I'm honestly a bit uneasy with options 2 and 3 - after all, it seems like there'd be a fundamental incompatibility between the socket and the connector at the PSU, and compensating for it just doesn't seem very safe - but maybe I'm overthinking it?

    Mining stats on a 3080 suprim X

    Posted: 31 May 2021 04:13 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

My new 3080 suprim X has spent the last 3 days running at 98.37Mh/s at 240w, 46C 60% fan with -200 core and 2200 mem settings.

Running in HiveOS, so i cant see mem temps.

I've seen a lot of people having issues with these cards so, i came to ask if the above sound right?

Is there some way i can squeeze more MH or lower the power somehow?

Or should i leave it alone and go on with my life?

    Thanks in advance.

ERGO the top coin to mine on most cards? Heres how to mine it

6x3080 gpu mining rig worst (best) case planning ahead, psu and wall outlet power needed?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 06:58 AM PDT

I was already set on my lightweight 3 card setup (The 1080ti and 3080 ready to go, future 3rd 3080. Dual 850 watt gold psu's ordered and ready, board is asus z170a + 6700k, a plex server ill remain as such + mining)

i assume 7 amps per unit 850 watt psu as well.

This 6 gpu chassis frame (can only really hold 2 psu's i think) is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091D2H3F7/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2BTFENBZ612M&psc=1

However, I thought of planning ahead for max ability, lets say i got hold of more 3080s to max out the rig at 6x3080, well now there isnt enough power. I'm thinking it best to up the power now so i dont have to rewire later.

    350watt 3080 x6 + 270 (for the risers) + 150 extras x 1.25 = 3150 watts? (this is if there is a glitch and they arent underpowered via afterburner)

Even with 850wx3 is only 2550, though i think the above number is really over done but i'm figuring worst case?

Secondly, this brings up an outlet issue, i believe as of now the outlet i have (which also is fed by a 14 gauge extension unfortunately in the basement, not ideal but meets the original wattage i think), the outlet is 20 amp max and its not good to split up the psu's across different outlets?

Any thoughts to the above, i've probably created more of a mess than will ever be needed but I at least wanted to have the right plan for later. I think i can have just the two 850's on the same 20 amp outlet no issue (14 amps).

I've seen some YT videos with the same rig done with dual Platinum 1300 watt psu's, though i think i could also get away with just dual 1200 watt gold psu's (about $600 total, an extra $300 or so over the dual 850's originally planned, i think some have done tri 850's and no issues)

I could just get this psu x 2 (seasonic 1300watt gold), though the amp draw will be 10.8 at least each, need to go on separate outlets (not ideal) and the 1500va battery backup certainly wont cut it(just skip battery) (or just wait and swap out the 850's in a year if this all still is viable and i get the extra cards) edit: another yt vid uses 1200watts x 2 as well.

EDIT: being on 120v i guess i'm limited to using regular atx above, the seasonic then, either gold or platinum, the link was for the gold, i think it should still cut it.

Today I went down the mining rabbit hole again, was doing some EIP-1559 research and other stuff. So i came across the Safe Temperatures guide over on gpuminingresources and compared their table to my rigs. It's safe to say that i'm in the "GOLDILOCKS ZONE!"

Better profitability option other than ethhash.

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:58 PM PDT

As observed in past few days the economy gas price is almost around 15-25 range which has dampened profitability. Is any other coin or algorithm giving better profitability over ethereum.

After a move, I can't seem to find my flash drive with my stock BIOS. Anyone out there have the same card with the stock rom they can share? I remember it has multiple memory, the first being Samsung, second was Hynix, and I believe the third was Micron when I first modded it.

Thanks to to anyone that can help!

3080 FE vs 2080 FE vs ASIC Cost to Profit

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:24 PM PDT

Okay guys first off I am a newb so don't grill me but my friend bought a 3080 FE brand new off of stock X months ago and willing to sell it to me for close to what he paid 1300$

I currently have a 2080 FE and got the basics down on mining with a current rate of 35-42 Mh/s where I see the 3080 FE can pull about 78-85 Mh/s and no idea what ASIC miners can do or which ones to look at

So my questions here are… 1. Should I get the 3080FE and run it along my 2080FE? 2. Should I buy the 3080 FE and flip it and use the profits for an asic miner (I see 3080 going on eBay/resellers for close to 2100-2300$? Which could get me 2 asic miners I believe 3. Since I do game should I sell the 2080 FE and use the profits (haven't checked resale value on 2080FE yet) for an asic miner to run along the 3080FE or find another gpu(s) that would get me a comparable result? 3. Is the 3080 FE recommended for mining? 4. Forget about gpu mining lol 5. Any other recommendations?

More info My 2080 is only been used for mining about a month with no OC

I heard the 3080FE can get hot like above 100 degrees hot when mining unless you do some type or thermal pad mod.. is this normal/common for those cards or more likely due to user error/incorrect config?

Once again still a newb so don't put me in blast please just wanna get a expert opinion any help is much appreciated and thank you in advance

Hiveos rig keeps disconnecting and freezing

    Posted: 30 May 2021 06:13 PM PDT

Currently my personal rig with an RTX 3080 that I put to work every time I'm not using it it keeps what seems to me, freezing and disconnecting sometimes after a couple minutes and sometimes after a couple of hours, tried what found on some forums and a fresh install of the Hiveos twice and didn't work I even went and removed all OC settings and still keeps happening. Does anyone knows why it keeps crashing?

Is this what ASIC miners booting up looks like?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 12:31 PM PDT

70c on mem with fans at 60% i replaced with thermalright pads at first for a drop from 108c to about 90c. small heatsinks and fan on the back to get it down to 84-86c. thought i could do better so Gelid to the rescue boom 70c (if you are going to do it, get gelid pads)
