Eth return of buying a GPU vs straight Eth on January 27th

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:54 AM PDT

Out of curiosity I decided to see what the return on investment would be if you had bought Eth instead of a GPU as many people on the forum suggest nowadays.

The most recent archived value of Eth/24 hrs was on January 27th at .003 Eth/24 hours for a 5700xt. This is a fairly strong and popular GPU for mining, and the date is near exactly 90 days ago, so seems like a decent comparison point. For reference, the price of Eth was ~1250 on that date.

We'll assume an MSRP 5700xt at 450 dollars. So, if you bought straight Eth you would have .36 Eth today. Nice and simple.

If you'd been mining with that GPU nonstop for 90 days at that profitability, you would have .003×90=.27 Eth.

Based off this very simple breakdown, buying Eth would have more value than buying a GPU after 90 days.

A few unaccounted for variables: 1. Cost of electricity (lowers profitability of mining) 2. Decreased profitability of Eth mining over time (it's currently about half of what it was at the end of January) 3. GPU ownership (you still have some dollar value IF you were to ever sell it)

Getting 55% to 60% Stale Rate. What Should I Do To Reduce This?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 06:41 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Yesterday I moved away from Nicehash to mining Ethereum through Nanopool via PheonixMiner. I have two GPUs on this, hashing around 68 MH/s. After running it for about 8 hours I noticed that I'm consistently getting a very high stale rate between 55% and 60%. Rejection rate is non-existent. From what I've read, this should be around 2%. I will add that I ran a four hour test about a week ago with Ethermining and PheonixMiner, which resulted in a similar stale rate.

Can you please advise what I should be doing to reduce this. Also, can some please help me understand the impact of high stale rate on earnings. Do I take a hit with continuous earnings or just the rewards?

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: I should add that I've set up against an east coast server in each of the above instances. I ran tests and my latency was between 20m/s and 45m/s, depending on where I was pinging on the east coast. Neither seem high but then again, I could be wrong.

Is PCie 1.0 too weak to GPU mine?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 05:53 AM PDT

I'm starting another small gpu mining rig. I'm on the fence whether I want to do ETH or RVN. I found a guy selling his pc with the following:

    i7-4790 16GB DDR3 1TB HDD with Win 10 GTX 1070 650W PSU MSI B85-G43 Motherboard

The motherboard has these PCiE slots (according to Newegg Specs):

    • 1x - Pcie 3.0 x 16
    • 1x - Pcie 2.0 x 16
    • 2x - Pcie 2.0 x 1
    • 3x - Pcie

I have a GTX 1080 and another GTX 1070 that I can put in this, but I'm wondering if it's too old to support GPUs in all of it's pcie slots.

    Any help is appreciated

    Mining rig motherboard placement

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:36 AM PDT

So I'm finally building my first mining rig, and I got a perfect alluminum frame for cheap. However I just realized that I have no support for the motherboard (no place for standoffs) and I'm concerned if i should build something for the motherboard to sit on in order not to be in contact with the metal frame? Should this be a concern, and won't the motherboard short-circuit if the back part of the motherboard is in contact with the frame?

Small mining Setup and OC Stats

    Wasssssup all!

Looking to share some of my latest results on my mining rig setup. I have one rig setup with a 3060, 3060TI FTW3 Ultra, 2080 Hybrid and a 3090 on the main PC. I've been tweaking the clock settings until I was satisfied with the MH/S and efficiency.

****Mining Rig (Built from aluminum angles and plywood)****
    Gigabyte 3060 Eagle 12GB | PL 69% CC -300 MC +1200 48.36 MH/s
    EVGA 3060 TI FTW3 Ultra 8GB | PL 50% CC -502 MC +1300 61.69 MH/s
    EVGA 2080 Hybrid 8GB | PL 65% CC -350 MC +1400 44.17 MH/s

    Main PC
    Nvidia 3090 non-FE 24GB | PL 90% CC -300 MC +1300 117 MH/s
VRAM Temps are consistently @ 86C running Thermalright Extreme Oddyssey Thermal Pads 1.5mm all around for front and back of GPU w/ MX-4 Thermal compound. I highly recommend it! It took me about two hours, give or take. A sheet of 120x120 should be more than enough, with a bit extra left over. I followed the guides here. S/O to CryptoAtHome

Seems like the Gigabyte 3060 is the hottest GPU of them all running at 63C. If you have any suggestions on what OC settings I can tweak to improve efficiency, please let me know! I'm running all my GPU fans at 70% right now, which doesn't sound like a roaring vacuum! Otherwise, happy mining folks!

Home made ghetto Rig, but it works!

Confused by ethermine transaction fees - what's going on?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 12:15 PM PDT

It seems like every other transaction, the gas price is 1 gwei (?), but for the ones that are not 1 gwei, the gas prices are super high. I just got a payout with a price of 1 gwei, but my previous payout 2 weeks ago was 301 gwei (!!!). I actually switched to flexpool because of the high fees, and set a limit of 40 gwei for gas.

How to set up OC in bat file of t rex?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 04:18 PM PDT

I've noticed that I can OC my rig directly in the bat file of t rex miner but I can't figure out how make it work and I get error something along the line 'not a valid command'.

    Anyone can help?

I tried adding the OC - -commands as stated in rradme.txt after the rig0. Ran as administrator.

I currently have 1 gpu running so would someone be kind enough and tell me how to do it for just 1 gpu and also for multiple gpus in a rig?

Also I game on the pc and OC is not stable for gaming so another question is.. When I close the miner will the OC settings revert to normal or do I have to open afterburner to reset it?

    Thanks.

Server PSU 6 to 8 pin PCIE

    Posted: 02 May 2021 02:18 PM PDT

Is it safe to connect a 3070 with 6 to 8 pin adapters to a server PSU?

Can I use a PCIE splitter? To connect, for example, the two pins on the top of the 3070 with one PCIE cable split?

My miner degrades over time(assortment of 3000series). It does 470 easy with overclocks at startup. Not thermal throttling, I've done the mods. Any suggestions on troubleshooting?
