Eth 2.0 and "what will happen to your ETH"

    Posted: 07 May 2021 08:34 AM PDT

Can we get a sticky regarding this topic? It'd clear up the daily convo on this sub a great deal.

    What is ETH 2.0?:

A series of upgrades to the Ethereum network explained here.

Do I have to do anything?:

No. This is an update to the network, Ether is still just Ether.

What will happen to the price?:

    Who knows.

    When will it be released?:

At some point in the future. ETH2 is series of features/fixes with separate development work and release dates.

Answers to all of these questions can be found on the ethereum.org site.

Hello, new here. Had a few questions. I just bought 500 dollars worth of Ethereum. I wanted to buy a whole coin I just don’t have the funds right now. Is it stupid to just buy a “part” of a coin or should I have saved and bought a whole one? Sorry I’m a noob, any advice helps. Thank you!

Is it worth to all my investments and buy 1 ETH?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 04:24 PM PDT

I have Doge and ETC worth about $4k.

Will it be a game changer if I sold that and bought just 1 ETH coin?

Staking: If ETH goes up, isn't staking in our favor?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 08:26 AM PDT

At 5-10% return for staking, locking up your ETH seems like an okay deal. However, if we assume ETH will rise in value, and we receive 5-10% in ETH, isn't that a great opportunity? Am I thinking about this wrong?

Can I swap my Bitcoin for ethereum without getting taxed?

Fees, value, & demand - will the bull run continue? ETH 2.0? Simple explanation of Ether improvement proposal 1559 and how it’s fueling current ATH pricing.

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:16 PM PDT

I felt compelled to author this small tidbit after seeing several posts explaining Ether 2.0, it's benefits, and timeframe. They all lacked what I'm about to explain.

I'll start by saying this isn't about STAKING. This topic has been spoken about enough, and it's creating spam due to ppl trying to refer others to newer platforms with higher staking fees. It's also creating scams. Be wary of new platforms, do your own DD!

Gas fees have been mentioned with minimal effort. I'll explain briefly and also why this is pertinent to my main point.

Basically the ether blockchain uses computer power which needs energy, the consumption (cost) of the energy plus mining fees (newly minted coins) are what comprise the typical gas fee paid to miners. It creates a spam free and secure environment, but it's expensive due to ether's unlimited coin cap. The fee structure is also changing from individual miners to the network itself creating a more "fair" fee.

    JULY 2021:

    EIP1559

EIP1559 is technically phase 3 of the ethereum 2.0 roll out. Differing from other phases there is a hard start date this July. This update is creating the current surge.

This "fix" is going to GREATLY reduce gas fees. It will make ETH deflationary, not by capping the coin, but by drastically reducing the number of newly minted coins while simultaneously adding cash burns to the blockchain.

Simply put; this update is going to add value and create demand.

The deflationary measures alone will add value while the minimization of new coins creates less supply and more demand. This recipe lead to the recent run up to $3,500.

Miners and ether aficionados are calling this update: The Ethereum Scarcity Engine.

All of these updates ARE HAPPENING this July. People have been hurrying to grab coins now before the fix goes live. They will continue to do so until the fix and up until 2.0 is officially launched. Thus continuing a bullish run.

Ethereum is now searched more then Bitcoin.

Ethereum improvement proposal 1559 will reduce fees, reduce supply, and create demand.

This is not financial advice. This is my opinion based on factual information.

Trading/swapping ether to DAI using smart contract

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:28 PM PDT

    Dear all,

what are the alternatives to swap or trade ether to DAI using smart contract? So far I use Uniswap. I need comparison.

    edit:

I need alternative markets that allow to use smart contract to trade ether to DAI.

    regards

    Ethereum Token

    Posted: 07 May 2021 11:35 AM PDT

So I just got into the crypto world and my heart lies with ETH. Currently I'm working toward my first full token and wanted to celebrate with a physical token. Has anyone purchased a physical ETH token? If so what are good options? I just thought it would be a fun thing to hold onto and share stories later down the road.

About the growing popularity of mining using storage space...

    Posted: 07 May 2021 03:49 PM PDT

To those who don't know, Chia is a cryptocurrency that is mined using hard drive space, and I think the growing popularity of this method of mining might potentially become an actual existential threat to crypto in general.

    • It has already turned even more people against crypto by causing hard drive and SSD prices to skyrocket.

    • It's going to attract even more ire from environmentalists, because it has added yet another source of pollution on top of what we already have. It's not like GPU miners will be like "Hey, there's a green alternative now, let's all just stop mining!"

    • And when cloud supply contracts start expiring, or if it simply becomes more profitable to sell storage to miners than to host web sites, more content will become paid, content that was already paid will become more expensive, ads will become more numerous, anti-adblock scripts will become more sophisticated and difficult to bypass, DRM will become more intrusive, etc. Worst case, it'll completely ruin the Internet as we know it (imagine paid Reddit or YouTube), and cause crypto to become universally hated.

Naive journalists still think that "it might also mean graphics processor prices come back down", but it'll soon become obvious to everyone that this ain't going to happen, and that government regulation is the only way to reduce shortages and pollution caused by crypto.

Posting here because I've heard Ethereum will soon go mining-free... I think it's about time for proponents of mining-free crypto to start proactively advocating for bans on wasteful crypto, before things get really out of hand, people get really mad, and just ban crypto entirely... Just saying...

Disclaimer: No interest in cryptocurrency, just want this proof-of-waste insanity to end sooner rather than later...

    Stablecoins on defi

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:36 PM PDT

I've got a nice chunk of USDC that I wont have access to for a while maybe as long as 2 or 3 years. Would you keep DAI, SUSD, USDC or USDT and what DeFi would you put it on AAVE or yearn.finance or curve.finance? Or do you think splitting it USDC/DAI 50/50 and putting it on a Uniswap pool for collecting some fees with the possibility of some airdrops down the road.

My comfort level is telling me USDC on AAVE and just leave it, until I return.

    ETH price after EIP 1559

    Posted: 07 May 2021 02:25 AM PDT

One thing I can't understand about future ETH price. I've heard a lot of assumptions that with EIP 1559 ETH can go deflationary, meaning it's supply would gradually shrink, driving the price up. This is good and all, but, with ETH being used as gas for any transactions on blockchain, in long term that means gradual increase in fees too. Eventually, with ETH supply declining, they can grow so high that it would just be unreasonably expensive to use compared to other similar blockchains. Where am I wrong?

    Ethereum 2.0 and everyday transactions

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:18 PM PDT

Can ETH 2.0 be used for everyday transactions? So we know coins like Bitcoin/ETH cannot viably be used as a currency in their base forms because of the high fees/ confirmation time. Will ETH 2.0 fix this to the point where fees/wait time are low enough where it can viably be used for everyday things? That could cause significant adoption.

Effects of dapps, widespread adaptation of Ethereum on the price of ETH

    Posted: 07 May 2021 07:57 AM PDT

In listening to Vitalik Buterin speak on Ethereum and the scope of it beyond buying and holding as currency, I'm wondering how mainstreaming the tech will effect the price? Thinking of BTC as a store of wealth and people buying in sending up the price, makes easy sense. People, businesses, organizations adapting Ethereum to run dapps and building stuff off of it sounds amazing, but feels less intuitively connected to ETH
