I put my rigs in a grow tent but got opposite of the expect result, what did I do wrong?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 08:02 AM PST

any experts here can shed some light on this, got a storage rack with 3 rigs in it, everything was fine by cooling the place with an AC half the day, decided to try a grow tent so I could stop using an AC and put the shelf inside with an exhaust fan and duct , temps got higher around 10C degrees more than without having AC on and kept on increasing, so I just opened up the tent and switched the AC back on.

    what did I do wrong?

Need your suggestion for a cost-effective motherboard that contains 2-3 x16 PCIe slots!

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 08:16 AM PST

Hi all, I need your help. I got a mobo off ebay for $35 which had a CPU, cooler, and DDR3. I thought I was getting a great deal but I was too dumb to realize that I couldn't use the PCI slots, only the PCIe slots. Also, I can't mount my GPU on the board itself because it clashes with the RAM. So I need a new motherboard.

I decided I prefer to have 2-3 GPUs mounted on the board itself, instead of risers. Has to do with the amount of space I have and the fact that I'll be keeping it in my small bedroom.

Did some research without trying to be overly frugal and there are two options I see. LGA1151 or AM4 motherboard, depending on if I want an Intel or AMD processor. Both of those sound hella expensive though. Is this the only way?

    LGA 1151

    • Motherboard $85, can mount 2 cards on the board itself
    • Cheapest LGA 1151 CPU on eBay is a Xeon processor (??) for $42
    • Cheapest DDR4 I saw was about $30
    • Cooler is about $10 used

    Total: ~$167

    AM4

    • Motherboard $100, can mount 2 cards on the board itself
    • Cheapest AM4 CPU on eBay is $50 (!!!)
    • Cheapest DDR4 I saw was about $30
    • Have a Ryzen cooler already

    Total: $180

Seriously, am I doing this right? This sounds way more expensive than it should be!

I was looking at the BTC-37 linked here and it has 6 dedicated PCIe slots and comes with RAM and the CPU and cooler and everything, but only for $140 or so. Somehow even with so many PCIe slots it's cheaper than the above options! So is that the most cost effective option? The only issue is that most of the ones I've seen listen on Amazon take at least a week to ship, which is lost time. And time is money.

Please help me find a motherboard and cpu combo which is less expensive than this. I feel like there must be cheaper options available that I'm unaware of.

Daisy Chain molex cables on riser

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 04:09 AM PST

Hello, so i've a 3060 ti and 3070 9, 8 card rig, on 130-135w with two Corsair HX1000 PSUs (planning on adding 2 more cards). I'm connecting the risers with molex, but I'm using 2 molex per cable (daisychain), and i'm worried i'll either burn the cables and/or damage the gpus and system... Has anybody have experience using 2 molex connections per Periph (6pin) cable? Asking this because it's very hard to buy extra cables for corsair where i live... The easist solution would be to literally buy an extra psu just for the cables.

Let's talk UPS / Surge Protection

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 09:45 PM PST

Let's talk UPS / Surge Protection

Putting so much money on these premium GPUs how to protect your investment.

UPS that can handle 2000W are quite expensive, for me the goal is not to keep running if lights go off but to let the rig to go down without any surges... A small UPS could provide a good protection for surge but why not just a surge protection.

What are you guys using? Would running a small capacity UPS as surge protection makes any sense?

Another point to think about, any good PSU should also provide surge protection, wondering if a separate surge protection is needed at all.

    Just for post illustration

I need some help please. I'm looking to add another gpu to my Evga 750w psu. I've figured out the 'vga' ports are known as pcie connector ports but all the cables are coming up as 6pin to 8pin but I need 8 to 8. I bought a corsair 8p to 8p but it doesn't fit as there's a square instead of rounded.

GPU with damaged video output - is it capable of mining?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:33 AM PST

Hi guys - i'm trying to find an answer to a question stated in the topic, but i can't find a good one.

I'm mining eth on hiveos with 4 GPUs and i would like to add another one, but not necesarry a new one. I'm looking for a used and even damaged cards to pay the lowest amount for them and there is the place for my question - if gpu doesn't give a video output through the ports is it still capable of mining or is it unussable without some electronic work on it? Let's say that PC starts with the card plugged in and fans are spinning, but there is no video on the monitor. Would i be able to use card like this for mining?

New rig got me hooked and I’m looking to expand

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 08:45 PM PST

Just set up my first rig after a family friend got me into it. I'm using NiceHash on 2 1070s and I'm looking to acquire more GPUs; I'm having a lot of fun. The supply appears to be low as the prices have gone way up since December when I bought my first two. Are there any cheaper cards that you have seen surprisingly high hash rates? Most of the websites I see have large variations of hash rates per card. Any places I can look for cards besides eBay?

Any help is appreciated thanks 👍🏼

ASUS GTX 1660 Super running hot

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 05:10 AM PST

I'm slowly building out my first rig. I have two MSI GTX 1660 Super that run at around 65 while mining. When I added the ASUS card it runs at around 84-86 with spikes of 87-88. It is a single fan card vs. the MSI which are dual fan. I've lowered the power to keep it at around 80 but is there anything else I can do to keep the temperature at a more manageable level? I'm afraid the card will burn out. I've looked at some AIO coolers but I'd really rather not invest $100+ in cooling, otherwise I would've just invested in another MSI card.

I have a bunch of extra 120mm fans at my disposable. I could place one at either end and so they are both blowing in the same direction, or would it be better to have both ends blowing out?

    Edit: GTX not GYX

    USB-Flash drive recommendations for HiveOS

Set and forget on my main PC - NiceHash?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 11:09 PM PST

Hello, I'm hopefully going to set up my new computer soon which has a 3070 in it and I'd like to mine.

I'm a fan of Ethereum but from reading around here it seems like it may not always be the most popular thing to mine, so I'm wondering if I would be better off using NiceHash if I plan to just leave it running and not worry too much about changing pools, coins etc?

Are there any alternatives I should consider please? Thank you :)

The last two nights I woke up to error messages. I noticed slight dips in reported hash rate (50 Mh/s) in the middle of the night both nights too. Any thoughts on this? Windows 10, Trex, Ethermine pool, mining with 2 3090’s, 2 3080’s, and a 3070. 2 1600w PSU’s.
