Chaintip is such a rush! So many rewarding steps.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 02:10 PM PST

Like a game, there are so many rewarding steps. What's your fav?

    • the overall feeling that you get tipping someone on a whim
    • how chaintip executes faster than you can get your wallet out
    • the recipient's shock and awe when they react to their tip notice
    • the satisfaction from the success announcement they claimed their prize
    • if they don't claim it, even the return notice is like getting an extra ship in a game of Asteroids, as it means you get to play the game longer
    • knowing no bank, gov't, credit card, etc. got to leech on your gratuity
    • knowing that you can tip anyone, anywhere in the world
    • knowing you can tip anyone without ever knowing who they are or where they are
    • never giving a second thought to some joy-killing fee
    • the contagious goodwill that propagates as folks pay it forward
    • knowing the fate of an insignificant tip may eventually find significance for someone else
    • or perhaps an insignificant tip changes the mind of someone significant
    • knowing BTC-maxis and hodlers must cringe at the sight of such free will and unbridled utility

And lest we not forget the unexpected twinge of excitement felt when we get a completely random tip. It's right up there with the time you got picked first for dodge ball, or when someone else asked you for a dance.

It's like saying, "Come play with us! Join our team! TAG YOU'RE IT!"

    Latest on BCH stealth addresses?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 01:11 PM PST

I've been wanting to spread the word about BCH in my local community, to small businesses and roadside shops that people use to sell eggs, firewood, strawberries and such. I've been working on a 2-page info poster to hand out, but a major snag for me is the thing about privacy, where I can't say BCH is anonymous "out of the box" after downloading a wallet. I feel like this will be a turn-off to newcomers, but I may also be out of date as to how to do this.

In my info poster I write about how easy it is to print a recieve address QR-code to stick on the front desk or roadside butique for customers to easily scan and send their payment to. However, simply using the wallet recieve address will allow anybody to go look up the transactions on a blockchain explorer, and see the transaction activities of the seller.

From an older thread on reddit I found this video showcasing stealth addresses with BCH, which is exactly what I'm looking for. However it seems it's not a default feature in most wallets, and the guy in the video calls it a "niche" usecase of BCH. I think with any kind of adoption for point-of-sale or donations, this will be a major and important feature to have.

There doesn't seem to be much about this yet, even after a few years since the threads and videos I've found. Can anybody update me on what is the latest in this regard? What should I suggest people to do instead, to accept BCH, if they want privacy?

You will know BCH is growing when we have new people who don't like each other building on it.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 09:24 AM PST

Listen, BCH is for everyone and you can't stop people from doing things with it that you don't like.

This is a feature, not a bug.

Yes, many people you find distasteful will find value in BCH. It's ok and normal.

    Just outbuild them.

Trying to tear down only creates a Streissand effect, which is self-defeating.

You will know BCH is growing when we have new people who don't like each other building on it.

We are called upon to have the emotional and intellectual maturity to leave it be and just keep building.

    Outbuild what you hate!

Bitcoin is dead. Long live Bitcoin

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 07:05 AM PST

I was going to post this in r/bitcoin but to be honest, that sub is borderline moronic so I thought I'd actually post it here.

I want to engage in a discussion about BTC vs. alts... more importantly, what makes BTC actually reign supreme and if it will stay that way later on as adoption grows.

What, other than being first to market, makes BTC the best option for crypto investments?

We speak of Bitcoin being able to bypass government rules, monetary policies, controls. We also talk about how Bitcoin will change and revolutionize finance and business. What I want to know from you is HOW do you envision that?

One thing that Bitcoin is lacking severely is the ability to do smart contracts. You might not believe that this is an important aspect of crypto... but it is, in fact, a crucial aspect of financial transactions... IF we are to deal with "big banking". Without smart contracts, there are no loans... without smart contracts there are no quid-pro-quo transactions that insure the goods/services are provided for the payment issued.

So based on that, how do you see the big dog staying that way... does it stay a "digital gold" that it has been turned into by Michael Saylor? Does it become a novelty? Still very valuable but instead of being a form of payment it is more of art, it is the "Cool thing to own". I, personally don't mind this so long as it's worth few hundred grand a coin... LOL... If this is the case, then other networks, such as ADA or DOT, would have to take over as the foundations of the DeFi system.

Or does BTC evolve in the next development cycle to incorporate smart contracts, and ultimately grow into a "swiss army knife" of crypto where it can just do it all?

    Understanding market forces BCH price

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:22 AM PST

Not a big user of exchanges, but those set the publicly traded value of the coin. Now, there is some demand for bch, but it appears there is higher demand in the market for BTC. Now correct me if I am wrong about the facts, but there may be a way to imitate the high demand that btc has.

If you go to buy and place a buy order, normally one would want to get the best price possible, trading for it. But that may be detrimental to yourself. If you offer one more satoshi, the cost is minimal. But the effect the way the market exchange calculates it, makes a difference. If you pay a few more pennies each purchase, the price would rise, which benefits you. I know in the us, some of you may get the check of the govt, and you may want to buy a significant part of a coin or even one whole coin. It would be beneficial to you if the price kept going up, even if slightly every day like this.
