Posted: 27 Feb 2021 10:16 AM PST I just took out a home equity line of credit to pay for 24 new RTX 3080s to run 4 6-GPU miners. I nabbed the cards in a bulk order at $960 each. My total in is about $28500. The cards are OEM Lenovo 3080s, which are a rebranded MSI base-model, I'll be using 1600w EVGA gold rated PSUs with custom cables from cablemod to accommodate all the cards and risers, mintcell Molex pcie risers, Asus Tuf Z390 motherboards with built in wifi, i3 9100f processors, 16gb ram for each machine, and they'll all be packaged in Veddha minercase T2 cases, I'll be running them all out of my house with a max average electricity price of $0.14/kwh and they'll all be running nicehashOS on USB sticks. My reason for using nicehash has to do with the current transaction fees involved with ETH. I will likely switch to a traditional mining pool once eip1559 hits, assuming ETH is still the most profitable coin to mine. With nicehash, the only revenue hit I am taking is when nicehash takes their cut before paying me, nicehash allows free bitcoin transfers to coinbase, and coinbase pro allows practically free transacting of bitcoin, so all of the fungibility consequences of miningWallet>exchangeWallet>USD are eliminated by using nicehash right now. The reason I am using unnecessarily large amounts of ram is that 8gb DDR4 sticks are going to remain more valuable than 4gb DDR4 sticks for longer, just want to have hardware that is still useful to somebody if I even need to offload it. With my AC running non-stop I anticipate my total electricity charges per month will be about $800 more than my regular household useage, my minimum loan payment will be about $200, so assuming these cards can gross at least $1000 per month at any given time I'll be breaking even (whereas my current projected gross is around $7000-$9000 depending on the price of ETH). My cards won't arrive until mid-march, and all of the boxed merchandise I've got on order is returnable with the exception of my custom PSU cables, so if everything goes to shit for crypto by the time I get the cards in hand, even if I can't resell them, I can just return them and I'll only be out $600 for the cables I can't return and my $1200 origination fee for the loan and one interest-only payment to the loan. I don't think this is a good idea for anybody else to attempt this and I am doing it because I have a lot of faith in the long term viability of PoW cryptocurrency especially privacy-focused currencies like zcash and monero and enough regular income to cover the loan payments if things go sideways. Assuming that when I get the equipment delivered the market is in a place where I still feel comfortable jumping in, I'll be flipping the switch on these rigs around March 20th. Profitability is down, should I be upset? Because I’m not! Posted: 28 Feb 2021 07:09 AM PST I just started mining a few weeks ago with my gaming pc, I had a 1070 Hybrid which can run almost 31Mh/s when overclocked. I decided to jump on the mining train and bought 3x more 1070 Hybrids at around $350-$400 each. Yes I overpaid, yes profitability is down, do I care? Nope not really! Mining out of my college dorm so free electricity, only have 3 cards installed which in total is running 92Mh/s, still waiting on the 4th card and my 2nd 850w psu. I see a lot of people complaining that profitability is way down, but even tho I jumped on board too late, I'm still pretty happy with my decision. Yeah last week my 3x 1070's where averaging $12 a day, yeah they're only averaging $6-$7 a day now but hey that's passive income for me right now. I was able to borrow the money to buy the cards which I wouldn't have had the money to buy the cards otherwise, repaying that isn't a huge rush so I'm very happy with my decision. Sometimes you gotta look at the bright side! With profitability being so low, I expect to see more used gpus popping up soon, I'm planning on snagging 4x more 1070 Hybrids if the price is right, I'm in this for the long haul as regardless of low or high profitability, with no electricity bill, I will eventually get my ROI and from that point on is pure profit. 8 Pin with 2 connectors -> Splitter, Fire hazard?? Posted: 27 Feb 2021 11:41 PM PST So i'm currently trying to make a rig with 3 1660 cards, which just use about 90W each. I would be using a 650W psu which comes with 2 pci-e cables with 2 connectors each. PSU --->PCIE8---->PCIE8 And i was wondering if i could attach to each one of those connectors a splitter without problems. Just so i can power up all my risers and gpus. What do you guys think? I could also power up to 2 risers with 2 molex on same cable, i guess. [link] [comments]
Too many GPUs -> keyboard not found Posted: 28 Feb 2021 03:05 AM PST Hi everyone, I'm trying to expand my rig but I'm reaching a limit. Up to the 7th GPU everything works as it should, but as soon as I add the 8th, the boot process does not pass the hardware check because no keyboard is found and I am redirected directly to the bios. I've already disabled all unnecessary USB ports and it seems like unused SATA ports are automatically disabled. GPUZ shows the seven GPUs on bus 1, 6, 9, 12, 18, 21 and 24 as the device location. Why is it not counted in steps of one? And if there are three steps in bus-iteration, where are 3 and 15? Does anyone know about the mainboard or otherwise have a tip for me? [link] [comments]

Best settings for RTX 2080s to get best results? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 03:40 AM PST Hiho, I'm completely new to bitcoin mining. I want to at least give it a try with my personal gaming rig. I habe a RTX 2080 SUPER and a ryzen 7. So I created an account and downloaded software (don't know if it's allowed to tell you which provider) Right now I'm at only 22mh/s What are things I can do to optimize it? I think I'm doing something wrong since my friend has only a 1070 and has 27mh. Apparently there are some things I can do for example fine tuning with Msi afterburner. But what settings to chose? If you need any more Infos let me know. I appreciate every help I can get. Thx and happy mining [link] [comments]

I was given a GTX 480 and a GTX 770. Anything profitable with these old cards? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 12:46 AM PST Title says it all. Was given these old cards thinking they could help with my crypto mining journey. I am newer to mining and only really know about ETH mining. Is there some other altcoin that can be profitable with these two low end cards? [link] [comments]

ETH: maximum difficulty found share 45 th !!! (some clarification please) Posted: 28 Feb 2021 03:02 AM PST So I only do 110Mh/s with my rig. Lately (on phoenix miner if that plays any part) I very frequently (actually most of the time) get share alerts like I used to get quite a few of them every second or so like more than 4 usually about 6 or more... This happened after I changed the voltages on my GPUs... could this be a sideffect because the miner was running while I changed the voltages ? (some bug lead to corrupt value data or something? ) my reported by the miner Mh/s did not change so everything seems to be fine other than the main thing I am asking about. Do I need to be worried? I mean will my pool actual share count or actual MHs average (not the reported) get lower so in otherword do I lose money now? I guess I could wait to see but I really want an answer even if I dont lose money I would like to understand why I get these 45TH or more difficulty shares ? Thanks [link] [comments]
How many cards can I use with Asus Sabertooth 990? Posted: 28 Feb 2021 02:08 AM PST I have an AMD 9590fx with a Sabertooth 990 motherboard. (motherboard link here) How many GPUs could I hook up to this? Would I need risers? Any and all input is appreciated. Right now I'm just using nicehash with my personal computer but I'd like to set my spare PC here up with a mining OS and some cards. Ideally I'd like to start with 2-4 GPUs and expand it further if I can. I have a fresh PSU available as well as 16gb of RAM. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Feb 2021 01:29 AM PST Ok so I has 2 rx580's mining in separate computers and all was fine. Yesterday I got a new psu that allowed me to put both of them on a rack. When I first turned the pc with both cards, it booted to windows normally amd both cards were detected by windows. Then I turned on nanominer and the pc froze completely. After several restarts because the same issue kept happening, I started switching risers and plugging cards directly in the motherboard. I determined that one of the cards was the problem, so I brought it over to another pc and that pc was stuck in a boot loop that never reached windows. I brought it over to the rig again and the same issue happens. Whenever that card is in a computer, it doesn't reach windows. I've tried flicking the bios switch several times but same result. Is the card dead? [link] [comments]
