Finally set up another 3070 rig!

It's like the IKEA of mining.

    Ampere incoming..

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 02:45 AM PST

So I finally caved in. No 3080 ANYWHERE to be seen in the UK.

    So

Copped a 3070 Suprim (arriving in about ah hour!!) Sounds like one of the better 3070's from what I've seen? Better build, more power phases, insane cooling etc.

From what I can see, 3070's seem to hit circa 60 mh/s at about 60% PD, +0 core, +1300mem, 40-50% fan speed. Sound right?

I currently have a RX 580 hitting 31 mh/s (modded bios, compute mode) but I set the settings for my OC using commands. Every Nvidia mining OC I see uses Afterburner. Is this the best option? Or can I just set it up in the batch file on Phoenixminer like my RX580?

One last note, I'm going to try to have both running in my pc (cue compatibility comments) but wondering what experience any of you have / advice? Other than "don't do it" those won't be helpful ;)

As always, thanks to you helpful bunch!

Almost done assembling my 8x 3060ti rig and was wondering what the life span of it would be? I know cards start to wear down after 3 - 4 years but what would it be for the 3000 series? Also, I would definitely be able to cool the cards below 65c.

RESULTS from attempting to reduce memory junction temps on 3090

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 11:47 PM PST

Card is a 3090 FTW3 with a Hybrid kit installed, which keeps the frontside memory cool, but the backside memory was reaching 106c during mining as read on HWiNFO (still under throttling temperature but higher than comfortable). The thermal pads on the backplate of the FTW3 seemed adequate while I was installing the hybrid kit, so I wound up purchasing a heatsink and thermal tape that was linked here on reddit (linked below) and positioned it over the backside memory, and here are the results after running Excavator for 4-6hrs each run:

    No heatsink: Average 102c

    Heatsink: 92c

Heatsink with fan blowing down: 84c

Heatsink with fan pulled air away: 84c (This one surprised me, I thought it would be lower since blowing up towards top exhaust and off the heatsink is more in the "flow" with the case fans)

GPU settings were:PL: 80%Core Locked 1200mhzMemory: +1100 (I believe I may be able to get this higher now with chips running cooler, but wanted to be consistent across testing)Fan speed: 80% (I don't normally run fans so high due to noise, but I was trying to keep memory temps down after HWiNFO update was first released)

Case is set up with 9 total fans3 120mm Intake on front with 240mm radiator for GPU. Speeds linked to GPU temp2 120mm Intake on bottom. Speeds fixed 50%3 120mm Exhaust on top with 360mm radiator for CPU. Speeds linked to CPU temp1 120mm Exhaust on back. Speeds fixed 50%

Heres the amazon links to the heatsink and thermal tape used. I tried to find a heatsink that was a more square shape to fit over the memory, but wound up just going with this one.

Confused about thermal pads on 3080 Aorus Xtreme

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 12:34 AM PST

    Hi all,

I have a gigabyte 3080 aorus xtreme and am seeing high junction temps, I recently found out about people adding thermal pads to help so just watched hardware unboxed's tear down of the card but it appears it already has pads everywhere? Are the factory ones just shitty or am I missing something? Also does anyone know if they're possible to replace without voiding warranty? (I'm in the UK).

    Cheers all!

Daily cool off time of mining rig

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:28 PM PST

Would it be worth it to turn my mining rig off for 10minutes each night to let the cards cool down a bit? Would this save some wear and tear on the cards because it allows the heat to dissipate and the cards/memory to cool down? Or. Would it cause more damage in the long run because the cooling down of the cards and then re-heating when they turn back on?

Some Math for it, if I turn it off for 10minutes each day that is ~2,54 days of lost mining per year.

Going back and forth on this one a lot, would love to hear some opinions and your thoughts.

First Rig & high Incorrect Share value. Please help

First Rig & high Incorrect Share value. Please help

    Hi guys.

After starting up my rig I noticed there are alot of shares that are marked as incorrect in Phoenix Miner. I was getting anywhere from 55% to 80% incorrect shares thus my profitability was oscillating at around 40%.

    https://preview.redd.it/8qwcchb23ge61.jpg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72ad6cbfb1a3e6e68322c3f8e7952993235da6f6

What I did to trouble shoot this was:

    - I've switched pools from kryptex to nicehash and still had similar results:
    - Stock settings, no OC. Same incorrect shares ratio
    - Increased my Swap file to 48GB
    - double checked my hardware, risers, usb connections, GPU temps (all sitting below 50C - 122F)
    - made sure I have all C++ libs, visiual studio libs etc.
    - I have tried going one GPU at a time but still I get incorrect shares.

    My rig is:

    • MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A
    • PSU: ATX Qoltec 1250W | 80 Plus Gold
    • SSD: GOODRAM CX400 GEN.2 256G
    • RISER: 008S USB3.0 PCI-E PCI 1x-16x 6PIN SATA
    • RAM: DDR4 SAMSUNG 4GB 2133MHz PC4-2133P
    • CPU: Pentium G4400 3,3Ghz LGA1151 Skylake
    • GPU: 5x MSI Gaming 3060 Ti.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Asking for setup assistance AMD RX 5600XT.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 01:32 AM PST

So I am a newbe who started mining with Phoenix miner connected to eEhermine pool. My current MH/s is 35 with no tuning and default settings. What am running on right now is; Gpu clock speed 1650Mhz Voltage 900 Vram 1500 Temp been around 77-79*C Fan Default around 1500 avg

I don't want to flash the bios just tune some minor changes on the Radeon Software cuz It's my bros gamig pc...and I don't know how it will impact it. Thinking of buying one more card and setting it up for mining, in less then a month and mybe then flashing that one.

Right now am curious what I can do to make it more smoother or get some value without risking. Can someone point out some options.

    Which PSU for new rig?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 06:53 PM PST

Finishing up a new rig, 1x AMD 5600xt, 3x 5700xt, 4x 6800(non-XT). I ordered 2 EVGA Supernova 850s, but not sure if this will be enough. Should I upgrade to 2x 1000w PSU?

Is there a general consensus forming regarding the hot mem temps on 30x0s ?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:11 PM PST

Asking because im an orc monkey smash and would 100% break my card if i attempted the modding

Ive got an msi suprim 3080 and getting about 96-97 MH/s with a mem oc of +900 and vram temps of 92-96c

From what I've read 105+ seems to be the shitty range with throttling ocurring at 110 and up. Never experienced that, and my hashrate isnt terribly bad, but its just that looking at a temp of almost a hundred degrees celsius makes me feel that kind of scary feeling ya feel me

Which do you think is better for mining: 3080 or 3060 ti?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 02:52 PM PST

Assuming you can get your hands on either and I know some brands are better than others.

Mining on PCIe x1 Slots - How Does That Work?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 01:36 PM PST

I've been searching for an answer for this for a while and my Google-Fu has failed me. I feel like it's a super obvious answer but here I go anyway. If this is a silly enough question I have no objections to it being removed. I'm also totally cool with just being referred to literature to read about it rather than having people waste their time making a wall of text.

I'm wondering how GPU work with software, in the nitty gritty, to enable you to use a PCIe x1 slot for a powerful GPU to mine cryptos. I guess my trip-up is mostly related to my (albeit not as proficient as it should be) understanding of the PCIe framework. My assumption is an x1 slot has way less bandwidth capacity than an x16 slot. So how do the cards manage to still mostly run without it?

My assumption is the instruction packet for the operation executed on the card is very small and just leverages the card's instruction set to do the heavy lifting. I think I'm just stuck on the media pipeline (I.E. textures, models, other high volume operations) for the GPU that I'm used to.

Anyway, thanks for your time in reading this!

Chances that nvidia fix the 1080ti hashrate issue?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 05:53 PM PST

As title. I read somewhere that a driver update could potentially fix the low hashrate issue for 1080ti's, no idea if that's actually true though. Anyone got any insight on this?

What do you use for record keeping crypto trans?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:26 AM PST

Last extended bull run I used cointracking to aggregate everything, capture conversion values, pool fees, etc... For tax purposes.
It was key because we did ALOT of speculative shitcoin mining and trading for about a year straight.
    I didn't mine, or trade, in 2019 or 2020.

Any current recommendations, beyond a super duper spreadsheet?

    First rig complete! almost

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 11:58 AM PST

    First rig complete! almost

After upgrading most of my gaming PC I decided to use the old parts and some new ones to build a rig. Mix of old and new parts but running great so far! Had zero issues getting all the cards recognized by Windows, just installed them one at a time. Only issues overall are a dead riser and having to set the page file to larger than 16 GB. I think mine is set to 30 GB. Currently at 246 MH with Phoenix drawing 785w from the wall. Running windows 10. Specs

    Ryzen 1500x

    ASrock x370 pro4

    8 gb ram

    240gb ssd

    1x EVGA 1070 ti

    1x 1070 FE

    2x MSI Ventus 3060ti

    1x ASUS TUF 3060ti

    EVGA Supernova 650 G3

    SuperFlower 850 Leadex III

    mintcell risers

Currently waiting on a replacement riser to get here so I can put the other 1070 FE I have in. Bought off Amazon and MintCell said they would ship a replacement for the dead one. Have some coming from Aliexpress for backups as well.

I built the frame using pre-cut aluminum square tube I got from a local supplier since I don't have the ability to cut metal myself. Cost about $140 for the metal, hardware, and tools I needed to build it which I know is more than I should have spent but I like it. My house is all carpet so I was worried about static with a wood frame. Also was uneasy about having the cards hanging from a shelf. The motherboard and risers are screwed into the frame with M3 screws and plastic spacers so they don't short circuit. Couldn't figure how to screw in the PSUs so they are zip tied for now until I figure something out.

    OC settings:

3060ti: All running at 65 PL, -500 CC, +1200 MEM, 60% fan. The one in the middle of 2 cards runs at 55 C while the outer ones run at 46 C

    1070ti: 80 PL, 0 CC, +875 MEM, 70% fan. 55 C

    1070: 100 PL, +220 CC, +500 MEM, 80% fan. 68 C

    Best miner for Conflux?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:19 PM PST

    Hello,

I want to start mining Conflux Token, via f2pool. They recommend using either Bminer or NBMiner, but I have no idea which one to use, as I couldn't find any comparative online. So, which one should I use, or is there another miner I should use?
