New Moons Are Ready! (Round 8)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:00 PM PST

The next distribution of Moons is ready. You can claim your Moons through the Vault in the Reddit mobile app (iOS/Android).

Moons are r/CryptoCurrency's form of Community Points, a way for users to be rewarded for their contributions to the subreddit, and they can be used on premium features in the community.

This distribution is based on karma earned from 2020-11-25 to 2020-12-22. Here is the finalized list, with contribution scores signed by Reddit (users with no signatures yet do not have a registered Vault. They will be able to claim their Moons when they create their Vault through the Reddit app).

Change My Mind: Everything besides BTC and ETH is a shitcoin

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:36 PM PST

Let's be honest, almost everyone here is trying to get rich, so Im talking purely from a price standpoint.

99.9999% of alts will be pumped and dumped leaving you with nothing. Everyone from 2017 experienced this and it'll happen again soon once this bull run is in full swing.

If something is truly valuable you're still better of waiting for it to prove its use case and then invest.

Selling Nano was the best financial decision I've ever made.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:45 PM PST

In late 2017 I became a die hard Nano fanboy and went ALL IN, I was brand new to crypto and looking for the next big thing. Fast forward 2 years, I exited the echo chamber of nano and actual considered brand strength and adoption in my analysis.

In November 2019, I flat out sold all my nano and bought Bitcoin, Ethereum and some defi tokens.

By far the best financial decision I ever made. Today I bought back the amount of nano I dumped at a small cost of just 2% of my holdings, to cover me incase it moons in the short term. I don't believe it will pump more than the rest of my portfolio but you gotta hedge yourself for the possibilities that will hurt you the most.

If I had just kept holding nano, I wouldn't have made a penny in profit because it's the exact same price it was when I sold in 2019.

I urge you all to reconsider your beliefs on "Tech comes first, brand strength and adoption comes second" in a market where all technology is completely open source. I'm not going to debate whether nano is better than the major coins from a technical standpoint because I don't want to read through 500 line replies from Nano people.

In the last bull run ETH was $753 this date Dec 30th 2017, by Jan 13th 2018 it had hit its all time high of $1,400.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 01:51 AM PST

Just so everyone has some perspective on this.

ETH went up 2x in 14 days. Between Dec 30th and January 13th ETH went from $753 to $1,432.

BTC reached its ATH on Dec 16th, 2017 at a price of $20,089, by Jan 13th, the day ETH hit its all time high, BTC was trading at $13,952.

The day BTC hit its ATH Dec 16th 2017, ETH was trading a high of 718 on the day.

This time around ETH is trading at a price of $759 today, While BTC continues to make all time highs every day. Once BTC hits its all time high it could be a month before ETH gets even close to its new all time high.

No one knows for sure what will happen, but do we really think BTC is going to bust through its previous ATH by an extra 10k at least and ETH is going to stop at half its ATH, seriously??? ETH will see it's all time high soon and it's going to bust through it just like BTC is doing now.

I happen to think Bitcoin is reaching a scarcity that can't be overcome, dips will be phantom dips, as the market will indicate a dip should be happening but in reality the sell orders are being bought up by the next institution secretly buying in. People will be scratching their heads wondering why the RSI flipped and why they can't get in lower. So I think ALT season is going to happen either way, but it will be a phantom dip that gets it going.

This is going to be a nice few months...

The Hilarious Irony of Listing Unregistered Securities, While Complaining About Regs Preventing Listing of Monero

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 09:49 PM PST

Mr Armstrange of Coinbase had indicated that he's soooo compliant and ahead of the curve on the regs, that he would like to list it [Monero], but the "inside baseball" prevents him from doing so. And now, as it turns out that the SEC has been preparing a case against Ripple for months (years?), and now Coinbase is being sued for facilitating the trade of an unregistered security. Yeah, way to be on top of the regs eh Brian?

I thought Monero was supposed to be the coin being delisted from exchanges out of fear of regulatory compliance? But these exchanges seem to have no fear of listing unregistered securities, a conclusion that even a casual observer could have determined.

I have no sympathy for any exchange that gets burned from this whole ordeal. They refuse to list the most cypherpunk crypto in existence due to the mere possibility that it might violate some reg (which they can never really specify); even as they list obvious unregistered securities which were ongoing scams.

I really wish more of you would hop over to Monero. You supposedly got into crypto because of the cypherpunk ideals of magic internet money. Ideals like privacy, anonymity, egalitarian opportunity of mining ("One CPU one vote" -Satoshi), and reasonable onchain scaling as advances in storage/bandwidth permit. I hope that more of you will see these events unfolding and get back to basics.

My top 5 crypto moments of all time / Share yours

    Posted: 31 Dec 2020 02:35 AM PST

    Crypto is a rollercoaster,

What are your top 5 best, funny, epic or fail....(whatever) crypto moments ever since you got in the game?

My top 5, started in 2017:

    1. Biiitconneeeeeect, That shit was shilled here so hard, I think it was a top 5 coin something, epic scam and epic promo video with wasa wasa man Carlos, still cracks me up today (sorry if you lost money)

    2. My epic 2017 alt coin gains I never sold cause I was a noob and thought it would go up forever. But it's ok, DCA till today so my seat in the rocket ship is reserved in the next cycle.

    3. That time (I think beginning 2018 something) Bitcoin cash tried to flip BTC, it was so epic I'm not sure how they pulled it off but Bitcoin cash was pumping so close to BTC trying to take it down as the true BTC in this hard fork war. But the king survived yet again.

    4. BTC breaking 10k, we have almost new highs everyday now but when I started BTC was 4K and when it broke 10k first time it was so unseen epic. I think, at least for me it won't be as epic again till we see 100k.

    5. Understanding Bitcoin, to be honest in the beginning I did not understand Bitcoin to full extend. It took a while, but if you understand and over the years see it do what it supposed to do as Satoshi wanted and predicted, what a visionary man, legend. He changed the game and it's amazing to be a part of it.

Sooo what is your top 5?

Binance will use SAFU funds to compensate COVER hack victims. What is your view on this?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:35 PM PST

Binance announced they are going to be using $10m of public funds of SAFU to cover the victims losses following the cover protocol incident.

My view was that SAFU exists to cover actual breaches of binance and not project hacks due to smart contract exploits, which are out of binance hands. So its surprising to see them use the insurance fund to cover the hack of a third party protocol
