Thoughts on building a small miner from existing equipment Posted: 26 Nov 2020 07:56 AM PST Hey everyone, New to this community, and have been watching a few videos from a few of the mainstays here on the best setups for mining. I just recently upgraded my MOBO / processor for my gaming / work computer, so I wanted to take my old one and make a small mining rig and then scale it up down the road potentially. I have an MSI Z97 Gaming with an Intel 4690k processor, and 32gb of RAM, and GPU-wise I was looking at getting a couple 5600XTs to throw on there to start (on Newegg.ca they're basically half the price of a 5700xt) I'm up in Manitoba, Canada and the cost of electricity is pretty cheap, 9.6c/kWh, so I figured I'd take the gamble while I still can to do some mining + with those cards I should be able to break even within the year, assuming I don't add more. If I do want to scale this up down the road, should I bother with a case? Or just get a rack, some fans and a PSU start there? Thanks in advance for any advice, looking forward to getting started! Adding more GPU's to my Gaming computer, Is it possible? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:40 PM PST Hello fellow Crypto Miners! I know a decent amount about mining, but I would still consider myself noob For a long time know I've been thinking about building a mining rig just as a hobby. So here me out is it possible to add on to my existing gaming PC? The specs on my PC is as followed
Here's what I have in mind Please note nothing is set in stone I'm just spit balling to see if my idea can be done. Also Looking for advise. Personally I've never seen it done. I would like to possible add 1 more MSI gaming X Trio 1080 ti to the MOBO IF it fits for fitment Also I'm looking to get maybe 3-4 PCI-E Risers and make a external frame onside on my PC case. I will add another PSU to compensate the more power needed to power the extra components. I'm looking to possibly getting either one more MSI 1080 Ti for add on or just drop the extra 1080, and add 4 5700xt or 1660 TI cards. Really leaning towards 5700 xt though. Or if there is a better GPU thats in the same price range or slightly above. Basically I want a all in one rig that can mine and game. What do you guys think about this project? Any advice would be great. The reason I want to go this way is I feel Ill save money not buying a whole new rig just for mining as I already have most components. Posted: 25 Nov 2020 10:03 PM PST Hello all, I'm trying to see if anyone has a good 70w OC for the MSI P106-100 6GB. I'm a little too close to 80% wattage usage on outlet and temps with my current 75w +150core/+550mem and would like to drop them down to stability at 70w even if a loss of eth mh/s. Boot rig without a keyboard attached Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:59 PM PST I know this might sound odd, but I just built a new rig that won't boot without having a keyboard attached. I've built several rigs in the past with no issues but this newest rig kept getting to past the bios logo then power off and on again particularly with 6 gpus installed. For some odd reason it worked fine with 5 gpus (although not without a monitor attached). I replaced the PSU and risers. I even bought a HDMI dummy plug since it seemed to only work with HDMI plugged in. But finally I have managed to get all 6 gpus running with no HDMI attached and the solution was... keep the keyboard plugged in of all things!!! So I was thinking it might be doing some sort of self test at start up, but I've looked in the BIOS and can't see a setting. I enabled fast boot but it made no difference. Does anyone have a solution to this other than 'keep the keyboard plugged in'? [link] [comments] |
