Should I become an ETH2 validator or not? Posted: 13 Nov 2020 03:23 PM PST I have a hard time reconciling the benefit of becoming am ETH2 validator. Except for the 32ETH investment I need to protect for at least two years, I also need to be rewarded for the running of the machine, the effort and the energy. Basically I don't truly understand the two papers Vitalik wrote. Do they support each other?
I believe Vitalik, although I don't understand it, that chain attackers will be persuaded because their economic effort will not be viable. I am more concerned with topics raised on Twitter, especially DDoS attacks for home user, the queue system for joining based on epoch and the number of participants. Looking at the calculator for beacon chain, and the amount of people that never moved any ETH1, I suspect the number of validators will be ten to hundred-fold the minimum, making the endeavor hardly profitable. edit: I know that my participation will ensure decentralization. Passive income with only ~10 eth Posted: 13 Nov 2020 07:40 AM PST Hey guys, I'm a college student who mined ethereum in high school. Due to unfortunate events, I was no longer able to mine and have since sold all my gpus and such (about 16). I now have about 10 ethereum and am looking to see if there's any way to grow it with mining out of the picture. I've looked into staking and I know I'd need 32 eth (which is a lot of money), but I also don't have stable internet as I'm living in the dorm. Are there any options that you would recommend? Posted: 13 Nov 2020 03:12 AM PST OG eth1 genesis miner here. For staking, thinking of getting my old keys from a USB flash drive I sealed with epoxy and buried under a birdbath. Just need to remember which birdbath. Can somebody tell me if it is the eth2 beacon chain and validator clients that determine when to start the eth2 chain using min_genesis_time and min_genesis_active_validator_count. Are a minimum of 16,384 validators essential or in corporate speak a "stretch goal"? If phase 0 can start with a lower number of validators why not set min_genesis_active_validator_count with whatever validator numbers are present 7 days before 1st December? Also, what would happen if only 1 client lowered the validator threshold? Asking because I think there was far greater risk in the early days with low miner numbers at eth1 genesis than with eth2 genesis as there are no transactions occurring during phase 0 of eth2. I understand that there is better security with more validators but this is only if there is value being transacted on the chain which is not occurring during phase 0. A high minimum validator count could be set for phase 1/1.5 to ensure security when transactions occur which would allow low initial validator numbers to be ramped up in phase 0 as people became familiar with phase 0 and the potential risks. TBH it appears the major risk in eth2 phase 0 is client diversity as recent testnets have shown eth2 client differences in the interpretation of the spec or bugs causing issues. Can you convert Binance Peg-ETH tokens back to Ethereum? Posted: 13 Nov 2020 10:01 AM PST I accidentally sent ETH over the Binance Smart chain which converted my ETH to Binance Peg-ETH tokens. I have recovered the tokens with Metamask, but how can I convert them back to ETH? When I try transfer the tokens to an ETH address I get an error code. [link] [comments] | ||
