Use Web3 Ethereum Private / Public Key to encrypt files. Possible? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 04:12 PM PDT Hello all! I tried to search online, and I am struggling to find information on this. Basically I have this workflow. I want to send you a video, and I want to make sure your the only one who can view the file. I don't want you sharing it with people who are not you, sending it to your friends, or distributing it. Technically speaking, can I encrypt the video using GPG encryption and your ETH public key (address), then when you want to view it, you can decrypt it with your Private key associated with that address. #1 - Is that possible? #2 - How do I ensure that when you are done 'viewing it', the encryption remains? So that you still cannot distribute it? Maybe a special video player? How would this work cryptographically / technically speaking? Thanks! [link] [comments]

What's being done to fix Medalla? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 03:00 AM PDT For many days now people are having trouble syncing with clients. No finality, nothing works, the testnet is completely useless like that! Why aren't inactive nodes just kicked off so that those of us who still want to use the network can finally do so again? We can't wait and wait forever until maybe all those nodes are slashed to the point they get thrown out. With Medalla unable to reach finality for so long already, it seems to me new people are dropping out all the time without properly exiting, just because they probably think it doesn't matter anymore. This really isn't acceptable. I'm certainly not going to stake a single Wei with an untested setup. /rant [link] [comments]
We need a Medalla war room! This is a four alarm fire an someone needs to lead the effort to fix it. Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:59 AM PDT Medalla isn't finalizing and there is a lot of confused people and no leadership that directs effort and reports status. I sit in front of my terminal and I flail around, trying to understand what is going and it is painful. This is teaching me that I shouldn't stake. I think for a test net this important we should treat this crisis as a live exercise. Ethereum Foundation or whoever should participate in this exercise and lead the recovery. I need to see what leadership would do if this were to happen when we launch on main net. I want to gain confidence in the community to fix this problem. I don't want to hear "this would never happen with real money" and maybe that is correct. But something could happen. And I want to see some initiative to fix this problem. So here's what I'm asking, I want someone to step up and treat this as a four alarm fire and coordinate the effort to get this fixed. Talk to teams. Talk to node operators. Write daily or hourly reports or whatever the situation demands. Zinken (I believe) was created to test the development teams ability to deliver. Can Medalla be a test net to test and train leader ship to recover from a catastrophic failure. Enough with this "It'll eventually fix itself at some point". That's not good enough for me to put real money on the line. Where's the war room? [link] [comments]

Best Ethereum Desktop wallet? (Must Be Open Source and Ethereum exclusive) Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:32 AM PDT I've been out of the Ethereum loop for quite a while, but I'm trying to store some stable coins and was wondering what was the best Desktop wallet, but most Ethereum Desktop wallets seem to be multicoin closed source wallets. So far, the best wallets appear to be MetaMask and MyEtherWallet, which is kind of lame since those are browser extensions and likely more insecure than standalone GPG signed binaries, but at least they are open source and Ethereum exclusive. Are there better options for open source and Ethereum exclusive Desktop wallets? [link] [comments]
