    Help with troubleshooting

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 03:12 AM PDT

I hope this is okay per sub rules, sorry if its not the right place.

So I had the system up and running with 4 gpus, it was stable enough, heat never went about 65C on the hottest card. On day it bluescreened, didn't get the error code. When it rebooted they system none of the cards were showing up in windows, AMD drivers were gone.

When I reinstalled windows, the first time it seemed to work. Installed a card, installed amd drivers. 1 card would mine. Shutdown installed another card, everything worked. Repeated. 3rd card worked. 4th card seated on booting into windows AMD drivers gone, not cards recognized.

Repeated this again, same card install crashed the system. I assumed I have a bad card. So I reinstall windows again, this time I will leave out the suspected card. Except I can't get any of the cards to get recognized now.

This is the point I am stuck at. I have installed windows no less than 8 times. Tried every update, driver booster, DDU. I tried HiveOS and SimpleminingOS. Nothing is recognizing that the gpus are installed.

I have another B150 mobo, I just installed that and tried booting. Windows boots just fine. Installed a 5700xt. Not seen in device manager does not light up, fans don't spin. In the BIOS when I change from Pure UEFI to UEFI compatible and reset the card will light up and spin the fan but then resets and the card does not spin, doesn't show up in device manager.

I am frustrated beyond belief. I am a relatively computer savy person, always built my own gaming computers and got into mining because a friend was telling me about. Everything was great up until now. I am a bit panicked because I am at a loss.

I have even taken the card (5700xt) out of my gaming computer and it is the not booting with this mining rig. So I don't think all the card are bad. I am making this post and the only thing I can think of that I haven't tried is a different PSU, So I am going to go do that, ill update as I go.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Dead gpu what do?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:52 PM PDT

    Hey y'all!!

So i finally after over a year got around to selling of my old rx 480 rig (6x gpus) and parts.

5 worked great and flashed back to old bios. However 1 although runs great on regular browsing, youtube videos, etc when I want to start gaming ie Warzone, PUBG it crashes the whole system and the gpu "whines".

Not sure what to do i tried it in another system and updated drivers same thing. Tried DDU and such and nothing same thing.

Likely dead but since I tampered with bios MSI will likely not rma it.

    What are my options?

    Thank y'all brothers!!

Anyone using Proxmox or other VM to host mining OS?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:38 AM PDT

I'm running HiveOS with 9 GPU on my rig. Super stable, but the CPU just loafs and I'd like to setup a VM to be able to spin up linux and start to learn.

Wondering if anyone is doing this, running miners on one VM and then other services on a headless SSH service.
