Does the 10-block rolling checkpoint make the AD12 setting redundant?

Bitcoin Unlimited node Accept Depth settings of AD12 are common. Since there is a 10-block rolling checkpoint in the code, is the AD12 configuration of any use?

Twitch again removes Bitpay as payment option

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 01:23 PM PDT

Yet again twitch has removed Bitpay as payment option for subs. Bitpay was there as an option just few days ago. They've added something called bitcash which is a very new crypto currency.

Not sure what's going on here. Bitpay seems to not have presence on Reddit so best I can do is ask here.

Anyone else notice that every BTC topic that gets posted here, and I mean ALL of them, is about price movement? People come here all the time to post about BTC PRICE. Nobody posts about any great new BTC technical breakthroughs. Ever.

Low fees and speed- such a game changer

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 02:40 PM PDT

Recently I've been making an effort to try and use crypto for small purchases (and then replacing the spent crypto of course) and really noticed the speed discrepancy. I sent btc and it took like 48+ hours to confirm with a 1 sat/b fee. I then used bch to buy a small steam gift card and it was nearly instant. Amazing!

I think the Sideshift.ai portal is down

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 04:46 PM PDT

I tried to do a swap on my Wallet.Bitcoin.com and the service is not available at this time.

I also tried to access Sideshift.ai directly and the page does not load.

I think this is a failure of Sideshift.

Sideshift is very practical, but as I said in a recent video (in Spanish) for this reason I think SLP tokens/stablecoins should be integrated into more platforms like CoinEx, etc.

Hopefully we will soon have that greater SLP adoption we need.

PD: Apparently has already been fixed. But we still need more SLP adoption.

Four reasons you should pledge to James Cramer's flipstarter campaign for SLP

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 04:42 AM PDT

    Campaign link here

In case you still have the old 1.2 Flipstarter plugin, download the latest here

Why you should contribute to James' campaign:

    1. Validation improvement: If you've used EC-SLP, you know validation can be slow, whether you use brute-force-get-your-whole-DAG-from-EC-server (intolerable for busy tokens), or Graph Search (better, still not great at all). Optional federated validation can vastly improve this with just a bit of tradeoff in trustlessness.

    2. Local rewards toolbox: Issue dividends and rewards to tokenholders, all from the comfort of your desktop, no going to a website and bombarding the REST server (with possible downtime) anymore, and with improved algorithm to efficiently reward way more holders! IMO the ability to drop BCH/token rewards to tokenholders is one of the greatest usecases SLP offers - and is where it shines through the BCH ecosystem. Worth supporting for this alone.

    3. Tutorial series: Want users? This is how you get users, can't just tell people "oh but BCH has tokens" and leave them at that. Gotta show them.

    4. James has been instrumental in founding and establishing basically everything about the Simple Ledger Protocol. You want this guy to keep working on it.

Considering the potential benefits of the SLP protocol to BCH as a whole, I think it's well worth it to see this funded even for people who care little for tokens. I pledged 3 BCH myself.

Imagine for a moment that the time is August 1, 2017. The $BCH upgrade just went live. In addition to the increased block size and SegWit rejection, an 8% block reward siphon (IFP) was also included. Something to think about as the November fork approaches.

    • Place to put winner list or hash of file with winner list: Bitcoin Cash blockchain.

    • Slot machines that download their random numbers every 10 minutes from: Bitcoin Cash blockchain.

    All provably fair.

I really wonder why it isn't a thing yet.

MoTA Is Pitching Cryptocurrency Against Mobile Money via BCH

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:57 AM PDT

IMO the only real competition to cryptocurrency is Mobile Money. Hope you've heard of it?

    Just look at the state of the industry report and you'll agree;
    https://www.gsma.com/mobilefordevelopment/resources/state-of-the-industry-report-on-mobile-money-2019/

Our project MoTA Global (Mode of Transfer Alternative Global ) is aiming to bring blockchain technology to that niche.

We found everything we needed to roll out with BCH.

It appears we are quite a while away from an ecosystem of strictly crypto to crypto transactions only. For adoption to thrive we must build an easy bridge:

    • From fiat to crypto (address gateway bottlenecks)
    • From non-tech to tech (address crypto utility for technophobes)

MoTA Global is being designed to confront the above. To challenge mobile money by mimicking its flexibility and utility while leveraging the benefits of blockchain technology.

The only real challenges we have faced are the barrier between fiat and crypto especially in our parts i.e. payment gateways. Shaving 5-10% off value when people convert fiat to crypto kills any prospects for ordinary use. We have a solution though. But the solution will need a community.

Of course volatility remains an issue. We are therefore entertaining a stablecoin riding on BCH.

Problems we hope to resolve with our project:

    1. cost of fiat to crypto transformation and accessibility
    2. availability of crypto (table-top vendors and corner shops)
    3. utility of crypto (shift from a speculative tool to a remittance and micro tx tool)
    4. access to technophobes & unconnected/offline persons & communities (not everyone can or want to use a technology or a wallet or has access to internet)
    5. Restriction and borders (yes the tech is borderless but access to crypto is not)

BCH has already laid the ground work by creating nearly all the tools needed for this. But this cannot be pulled off with only tools. Strategy and Network are fundamental to getting this to work. In other words, we have the tools and the strategy, now we need the people.

Any tips on how we can get the BCH community behind us?
