How serious is the fee burning proposal? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:17 AM PDT Curious because this would launch the value of Ethereum into the stratosphere. Seems like a good idea to anchor Eth to some sort of fundamental for the entire system to be stable....I hope they do this. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Aug 2020 10:17 AM PDT If it needs to use ETH for some kind of staking, that would be fine. But I believe that important infrastructure running on Ethereum should rarely have its own token. Privacy would be great because you can't build an excellent financial system without it... we'd get rid of fruntrunning, backrunning, your mom knowing what yolo "investments" you've made, etc. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2020 08:41 AM PDT Hi guys, a question. I read that it is straight forward to take an Ethereum smart contract and move it on xdai. Does anyone know a tutorial showing how this is done ? I recently learned how to develop smart contracts on Ethereum with solidity but I still have a knowledge gap. [link] [comments]

Client Diversity Matters: Minimum requirements test to screen clients? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 01:48 PM PDT In the geth code you will find Golang source files that match a ".*_test.go" pattern. This file naming convention is used in Golang to denote files that comprise a test suite that can be run by invoking "> go test" at the command line in the given directory. Any large mission critical project needs a robust testing framework to ensure that updates to the code do not introduce bugs. In an environment such as the Medalla Testnet, where clients are written in different languages (Prysm is written in Golang, Lighthouse in Rust, Teku in Java, Nimbus in Nim) a more generic test suite would be needed. For instance, a node could be tested by sending a set of messages to it and observing the state change at that node. More formally, given an initial state S1 for a given node and a set of messages M that are sent to this node, the expected result would be state S2. This could be expressed with a simple notation such as: M -> S1 = S2. A full generic test suite comprising such tests could be developed that would test all the features required by the spec and would work with any type of client, since it would employ the same messages that are recognized by all clients. Any seasoned developer would likely agree that rigorous testing promotes quality software. If a test suite like the one suggested above existed, it could be used to screen all clients (and each new version of a given client) prior to being allowed on the testnet. No sense putting a new version of a client on the testnet with a bug(s) that could bring down the entire network, when this could be avoided by ensuring it had successfully passed the test suite. So the question is, what, if any, generic test suite exists for all clients on the Medalla test net? [link] [comments]
Do I get my money back on failed transactions? Posted: 31 Aug 2020 11:36 AM PDT I was trying to transfer tokens and burned through my ETH trying get a transaction to go through. Each transaction had the current average gas price of 335. Now I'm wondering if I lost all that ETH or if I'll get it back ones the system realizes I didn't get what I payed for. Can someone please explain gas prices to me Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:51 PM PDT Sorry for a possibly stupid post. This isn't a complain about fees, just trying to understand how they work. I have been checking https://etherscan.io/gastracker and https://ethgasstation.info and they are generally suggesting that 170 gwei ($1.56) is the gas cost for a fast transaction. Using uniswap at the same time, $17 for an average transaction isn't enough to get it to go through (price slip after several minutes of not competing), $21 worth of gas was the magic number. Metamask connected to ethereum gold was $8.49 in fees to go through. What am I missing? [link] [comments]
Regarding non-custodial mobile wallets' security like Trust Wallet, Metamask Posted: 31 Aug 2020 04:30 AM PDT Hello, I'd like to set up a mobile wallet to start really owning my coins and move them away from Coinbase. However, I want to make sure I choose the right wallet for this in terms of security (and usability). I'm particularly concerned about the randomness of seed phrase generation and the subsequent derivation path used to generate the private keys of each crypto. I get that a proper seed phrase should give me all the security and peace of mind I want, however, if the wallet doesn't use strong coding when generating the seed and keys, it creates the possibility of having weak keys right? So how about Trust Wallet and Metamask? I believe at least Trust is open source so probably can be audited to ensure that they use industry standards. Is this verified? How about metamask? Am I safe to use either and store here all my coins? I get that everything after transferring the coins is on me. Just want to make sure that the math beforehand is also strong and correct. I also considered using a hard wallet but I'd rather have some usability provided by mobile apps as well. Thank you! [link] [comments]
I can't find my transaction on the blockchain! Posted: 31 Aug 2020 08:02 AM PDT Hi guys, as the title says, I have sent some ETH to myself (not the first time) and I couldn't find the transaction on the blockchain, any ideas on how to get it through? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
An open source redesign proposal for MetaMask Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:02 PM PDT In light of the MetaMask license revision issue, perhaps not the best time to do this, but so it goes. I spent some pandemic lockdown time thinking about some improvements for the annoyances in MetaMask's UX, and have put some ideas together in the linked post. Everything is open source, and the design files are on Figma Community. It is intentionally not a radical redesign, simply an evolutionary one, something that could reasonably be implemented while keeping the existing feature set. The intention was to give something useful to the crypto community, given how much of a default gateway to the eth ecosystem it has become, while not really maintaining the kind of high user experience standard needed for crypto to achieve more mainstream acceptance.
