On why Hayen Ottos flipstarter is having a hard time and why we should fund it.

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:53 AM PDT

    The backdrop

The BCH community is in the process of taking its power back from a dictator who seems to have turned against them. I've been looking for an expression matching that process... it's not a coup d´état, because a coup is done by a small group of people. I found a definition of "revolution" that fits:

2 b: a fundamental change in political organization. especially: the overthrow or renunciation of one government or ruler and the substitution of another by the governed

So I'll call it a revolution and the growing group of people doing it the resistance.

While we're not necessarily "substituting nother ruler", but we sure overtrhowing the current one.

Part of the expression of the power of those "governed" takes place in the form of funding (or not funding) these flipstarter campaigns, where people offer to build things for BCH. It's both expression of opinion (backed with wallets) and a channeling of energy into the projects the contributors think should be done. It also shows funding of infrastructure and development can be done using voluntary contributions, an alternative to the method proposed the current dictator that fuelled the revolution greatly.

    Haydens position

Hayden invested a lot of effort into building and marketing the BCH brand. He had a huge impact on BCH adoption.

Hayden stated his efforts will go into the chain that retains the Bitcoin Cash branding and equates that with the longest chain (which is probably correct).

This could be said to be "taking a neutral position".

He's planning for the outcome of the revolution failing.

    Reaction to Haydens position

Hayden has been vigorously and very emotionally attacked by /u/NilacTheGrim (among others), who demands Hayden should take a clear position against the IFP and commit to supporting only the chain that doesn't feature any coinbase reward diversion.

This is understandable: People like Hayden have a lot of reputation and them taking sides has great effect on others. So it would be extremely good for the revolution if Hayden sided with it and increase the chances of success.

    Reaction of Potential contributors

contributors have been comparably slow in contributing to the flipstarter proposed by Hayden (make promo vids for BCH).

NilacTheGrim is an outstanding member of the resistance. He does great work as a developer.

Haydens fallout with him creates huge uncertainty and doubt around his flipstarter.

I propose this is the top reason for the fundraiser not going as quickly as it could.

    My own actions

Firstly I would like to call on Hayden to rethink his position and make use of the power he has to effect hugely positive change. Have no fear and join us!

After thinking for a while and sleeping over it I still think it makes sense to fund Haydens projects. In the event of the revolution succeeding he will support our chain and in the event of the dictator managing to cling to power I can live with having thrown money the wrong way. I will wish the best of luck to BCHABC, sell most of my stash and take a break to rethink everything and focus on my family.

I call on contributors that haven't already contributed and still have some powder left to rethink their stance. Hayden is an asset to BCH just like the great developers we have and we should pay him.

I think we should be able to accept Haydens "neutral stance".

I also think this is not the time to "play it safe" and plan for all outcomes. I propose to assume the revolution will be a success and thereby help make it one.

I have doubled my contribution to https://flipstarter.bitcoinbch.com/ (from 11 to 22 BCH)

The Grayscale Bitcoin Cash Trust is trading BCH at a value of $2660 while the actual market price is $290. Thats over 9 times the current market price. FYI 106.4 shares is 1 BCH.

The Daily Average of Miner Signaling on Bitcoin Cash

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 10:08 AM PDT

Hayden has done great work for Bitcoin Cash in the past, and he remains fully committed to the long term success of BCH.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 12:26 PM PDT

He openly says that he will "follow the longest chain and stay with the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) branding and ticker."

He has already spent valuable time promoting Bitcoin Cash BCH, so his position is entirely understandable.

Almost the entire community is against the IFP now. All the great developers working with BCHN, and all the miners backing BCHN, will ensure that we will retain the BCH ticker.

His work will provide value for everyone holding and building on BCH. We need people like him marketing our coin.

He has committed to transparency and accountability here - https://read.cash/@BitcoinBCH/flipstarter-transparency-accountability-b2fd494c

I agree with /u/jonald_fyookball that we should support him here - https://flipstarter.bitcoinbch.com/

Check out the newly added graphic at: https://cash.coin.dance/blocks/historical . Note the dotted lines (orange for BCHN-signaling blocks, gray for other blocks). The period covered is the last 24 hours!

NOTE: \"BCHN blocks\" counts only BCHN signaling blocks. \"Other\" is all other blocks.

IFP vs “Donations” is a strawman

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 09:55 AM PDT

The slur pushed by certain Bitcoin Dashers that those who don't want a centrally planned ABC welfare program baked into the protocol want to fund global money as a charity or some "let's all hold hands and vote!" committee is a straw man.

The "choice" is not between IFP and donations, or IFP and flipstarter, or IFP and Marc D.

It's between the current IFP—which effectively creates an entrenched bureaucracy with an endless money trough to do whatever they want—and a market of options where funding models can compete.

Something like Flipstarter is just one option. Just one. I'm not even convinced it's the best one and I question the model but kudos to the team for building something awesome. More people will do the same and Flipstarter will have to compete. Great. It will be neat to see what kind of funding, and what sources of funding, and what incentives for funding, work best.

But there are those trying to manipulate otherwise smart people into thinking their only choice is some handouts from Marc and donations on flipstarter or IFP.

And if that were true I could see why people might begrudgingly accept the total takeover of the protocol by a single developer group (or just quit entirely) as the only option because charity is usually less efficient than business and more prone to capture by political interests.

But it's not! Don't fall for it! The choice is not IFP or donations. That's the lie being pushed every time you see some moron call someone a "bitshevik." It's between central planning + total developer capture and competitive markets (donations being one of many options).

FWIW, I think ABC can and should do whatever they want with the code they write. And I hope people stop running their code accordingly.

Roger Ver has contributed more to Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash than just about anybody

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:02 AM PDT

It is illuminating and saddening to see the same Core & BSV style tactics being used by top ABC supporters to defame one of the most noble and generous members of the community.

    Here's one example:

    https://twitter.com/micropresident/status/1296842510715609088 - http://archive.is/46xrH

This is probably just the start of the dirty smearing campaign against those who are against the tax. I warned about this 2 weeks ago, and preceeding this I believe I was the first to predict ABC would pull another IFP in November.

ABC is playing a game of mutually assured destruction, they are losing on every front. The strategy is to do as much damage as they can on the way down, "strong commitment". If this is anything like similar events: character assasinations, stalking behavior, mass reporting/censoring, lawsuits are all possible. It is really unfortunate.

This probably was predictable with the "miners are freeloaders" meme. Or that Bitcoin Cash business owners who do not fund ABC are "freeloaders". Well, good call Roger on not sponsoring them more, and thank you for dedicating so much of your life in your effort to spread p2p cash to the world.

    It's Fusion Friday

    Posted: 21 Aug 2020 08:00 AM PDT

CashFusion brings exceptional levels of privacy to Bitcoin Cash, comparable to (or maybe even superior to) other privacy coins. It's already been used to fuse 360,468 BCH, and has reduced the size of the UTXO set by 30,990 outputs.

Make sure to spin up Electron Cash 4.1.0 today and get that liquidity flowing! (The more people using CashFusion at once, the more Fusions happen, and the larger your "anonymity set".) If you had the pre-official-release 4.1.0, or the "release candidate" (with "rc" in the file name), you can update to the official 4.1.0 release for the latest version.

New to CashFusion? No problem, getting set up is EASY.

Just download the Electron Cash desktop wallet. It's got CashFusion built in!

Set up your wallet (and be sure to write down your recovery phrase on a physical piece of paper, especially if you are going to hold significant amounts of coin in the wallet), then activate CashFusion by clicking the icon in the lower right:

    https://i.imgur.com/DXEPLtf.png

Once it's activated, your wallet will start "fusing" the Bitcoin Cash it contains. Fusions happen over time as their own, separate transactions, and only cost you the network transactions fees (less than a penny). Each fusion transaction will include some of your coins*, so it will take multiple fusion transactions before all the coins in your wallet to be fused. (In the View menu, toggle the coins tab to see all of the coins in your wallet. In the "Label" field, fused coins will show CashFusion info.)

Currently, Electron Cash keeps fusing your coins indefinitely. While it is on the roadmap to give you the option to stop fusing after some number of fusions per coin, there's no downside to leaving it to fuse continuously besides paying the transaction fees. (And every fusion gives you that much more privacy, while you are helping to provide "liquidity" for other fusers.)

Also, EC does not yet yet prevent you from spending unfused coins, nor does it prefer fused coins when spending, so it's probably best to leave it fusing and keep your whole wallet fused, and/or pick your coins manually from the Coins tab. (If you want that functionality and/or you're not comfortable picking coins to spend from the Coins tab, you can always switch back to CashShuffle for now in the Optional Features window, accessible from the Tools menu.)

Here's the CashFusion Telegram group where you are welcome to ask questions. (Just remember to be courteous!)

    Happy Fusing!! <3

*"Coins" are kind of a confusing concept when it comes to Bitcoin, but you can think of them like discrete "bills" (or... "coins") in your wallet, but instead of coming in only certain sizes like $1, $5, $10, $20, etc, they can be any amount sent to you in a previous transaction, like 0.618 BCH, 0.000001 BCH, or 123.45679 BCH. (They can also be combined and split up. That happens in most transactions!)

Can I split my old BCH into BSV as well?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2020 01:11 AM PDT

Howdy r/BTC, I have a Jaxx wallet with a little BCH on it. Would like to get the BSV off it from after the split as well if possible.

I've read a few posts but this crypto stuff is all incredibly confusing to me 😅 I don't know how to check whether a wallet does 'automatic replays' or not.

Can I still get the BSV, and if so, could you please explain plainly how to do that?

    Any input is greatly appreciated!
