I need to spell this out for new users here.

Bitcoin Cash has been and continues to be the original immutable Bitcoin ledger since it was launched in 2008. In 2017 Bitcoin got an upgrade with larger blocks and the Bitcoin described in the Whitepaper is now called Bitcoin Cash. Bitcoin Cash continues to be peer-to-peer electronic cash. It doesn't require a business, government middleman, 2nd-layer hub-spoke junk model or centralized development team to continue and flourish. That's what makes Bitcoin Cash so powerful. It gives you back control of the money you rightfully earn and save.

Bitcoin Cash scales and it can do so cheaply for even small transaction amounts. The world can start using Bitcoin Cash today and it will scale elegantly where other centralized and intentionally crippled coins like BitcoinBTC will fail.

The above facts make Bcore fanboys shivver in their timbers. That's why they're here attacking this project. Bitcoin Core is garbage software and Bitcoin Core fan boys were dumb enough to buy into a pump-and-dump scheme rather than actual coin utility.

    More facts:

    • Central banks feel threatened. They technically own your money, keep 5% of it in reserve and engage in high-risk gambling with the rest.

    • Government dictatorships feel threatened. Bitcoin Cash is cross-border and can't be frozen. They can't stop foreign capital outflows and with proper obfuscation they can't use your transaction history against you for political persecution.

    • Consolidated-power entities like the federal reserve feel threatened. They push a button and create trillions of bogus fiat dollars out of thin air. Bitcoin Cash teaches people that money is an idea that we all agree upon; not a face on a piece of fancy paper or some fake number in a centralized database.

    • Many other groups attack BCH for many other reasons. If it's not something they can control or a scam they can benefit from, they will attack it.

To make it crystal clear, Bitcoin Cash is and will continue to be under social attack in this subreddit. Don't be surprised to see trolls troll'in. They are here and they mean to destroy this project despite it being a benefit to them in their actual lives, since they too use Money.

    In regards to ABC:

The recent IFP miner tax theft attempt was an attack on decentralization of the Bitcoin Cash protocol. We got lucky... very lucky.

ABC's more recent DAA Grasberg change would slow blocks, making Bitcoin Cash less useful, while also invalidating time contracts built on top of it. It's another clear attack on the utility of Bitcoin Cash.

It's obvious that ABC is making changes that will undermine Bitcoin Cash. Maybe it's a government actor that is forcing these harmful changes. Not sure, and there's no way to know, but it's clear that these are incredibly harmful changes that would only be pushed by someone trying to do serious harm.

Please use BCHN, Bitcoin Unlimited or one of the other great wallets. These projects have BETTER developers than ABC and they don't appear to be actively trying to undermine it.

    Power to the people.

3.5 months until downgrade to slower 11 minute block target

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:10 PM PDT

The downgrade on November 15 will radically change Bitcoin Cash to target a slower 11 minute and 15 second block interval for over 5 years.

Can we swerve in time to avoid this disaster?

Simple solution: Use Jonathan Toomim's ASERT proposal to drastically improve the DAA while still targeting 10 minute blocks intervals.

"Is there going to be a split?"

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:10 AM PDT

This question is (understandably) asked all the time by people coming to the BCHN telegram for clarity on what has become a pretty unclear situation. It's not an easy question to answer, though, so I wanted to make this post that people could refer to. Here's my take on answering that question:

It's impossible to know 100% for sure if there will be a split, because it's impossible to know for sure how all the relevant parties will behave. For there to be a split, two node implementations need to irreconcilably disagree on a consensus-related issue, both need to release code with those conflicting consensus rules, and then miners need to also be split enough on the issue for both chains to have enough hashpower to be viable.

The narrative that there is ALMOST DEFINITELY going to be a split seems to have been dumped on us out of nowhere a month or so ago, along with what I consider to be increasingly unreasonable behavior from Bitcoin ABC. The tin foil hat in my heart finds that suspicious. (And between the IFP and recent Grasberg proposal, it almost seems like ABC is doing it's best to propose things that make a split as likely as possible.) This political baggage doesn't really matter though, in the grand scheme of things.

What matters is that BCHN is, as far as I can tell, just trying to be a reasonable and professional node implementation for Bitcoin Cash. If sticking to those principals leads to a divergence from ABC on a consensus related issue, whatever issue that actually would end up being, then that's how it will be. And it wouldn't be the case that "BCHN split the chain", nor would it be the case that "ABC split the chain". It would just be the case that two groups released node implementations with different consensus rules from each other. (And then, if a non-negligible amount of hashpower mines using both clients, then there would indeed be a chain split caused by that situation.)

Keeping BCH unified is obviously a HUGE priority for BCHN. Their initial release of what was effectively a non-IFP version of Bitcoin ABC was even designed so that, if the IFP activated with a majority of the hashpower, miners mining with BCHN would follow that longer chain, instead of rejecting IFP blocks as "invalid" or anything like that. This is in stark contrast to the narrative I've seen flooding this sub recently with claims that BCHN tried to split the chain this past upgrade, and are trying to split the chain again this November. So please take the time to consider which sides of these inevitable disagreements are being reasonable, and which are not, make sure to fact check and ask for sources for any claims you see being made that you can't verify or debunk on your own, and remember that, while chain splits are messy unfortunate things (at least in the short term), if there's an irreconcilable disagreement, it's definitely better for those parties to go their separate ways. I hope that that doesn't have to happen anytime soon for BCH.

Why is Big Bubbler like a Lone Canary Crying Wolf?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 02:17 AM PDT

I feel like I am nearly alone and crying wolf about this community division attack currently demonizing Amaury and our primary developer team (ABC). I am sad to get little support, but I understand it is hard to stand up to the massive wave of posts attacking our team. It kinda reminds me of the time when it was dangerous for a business to support BCH as they would be attacked by the anti-BCH army.

I am not a big fan of ABC's actions lately, but, I do value the work I believe they are doing. I have been calling for the anti-ABC team to provide a plan for what they would replace ABC with. Who will agree to do the work and make the decisions on what goes into updates? I just get crickets and claims that ABC does little or nothing.

Some like to claim I am the troll and it is me that is attacking BCH. I certainly do not want to harm BCH, so I have put a lot of thought into the possibility it is me that has been fooled for months about what side I am on. Then I realized if I was working for the dishonest anti-BCH team (knowingly or not) I would have many random new to r/BTC accounts backing me up and pretending they were the BCH community by my side. They would be pushing to save ABC from the mob. Doesn't it seem odd most of the trolls seemed to have disappeared or changed sides?

Wake up people we are still under attack! Wolf, Wolf, Wolf!

Is there any room for compromise on the DAA?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:11 AM PDT

Would it be possible to implement past drift correction on Jtoomin's ASERT DAA? Could the Grasberg DAA be tweaked to correct for past drift over a longer period of time? For those extremely dissatisfied with the Grasberg DAA resulting in ~ 70s longer average block times for the next 5 years, is there a number that would be acceptable or less disruptive? 630 seconds, 615 seconds??

Turn a lightbulb on or off using Bitcoin Cash

Hi, did you know you can toggle your LIFX smart bulb on or off using bitcoin cash?

    https://github.com/adnjoo/apitest-lights

Just run a webpage in the background which monitors a bitcoin cash address; and send BCH to that address to turn it on or off.

The untold story: There are three significantly different IFP. If ABC had not put its 4 addresses in the middle of ABC code (IFPv3) just to block the advance of the BMP (IFPv2), then we would now have an effective and legitimate decision-making mechanism, to choose the DAA, civilly, without split.
