I want to get into crypto and hold BCH, but it seems easier said than done... (A small rant and call for advice)

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:05 PM PDT

Hey there. This isn't the first time I hear about cryptocurrencies, but maybe due to the situation with the pandemic and after a few years of having this concept in the back of my mind, I started to warm up towards it.
The first contact I had with crypto was through a (short-lived) period as an intern on a company developing a wallet. I didn't really get the programming experience I expected and it discouraged me from further pursuing a career as a programmer; but I digress. What I did get was an introduction into what crypto was about and how it would ideally provide individuals with a currency that worked for them, not against them.

So these past 2 months I've been trying to process all the pertinent info on the matter. I got a Trezor One, read a lot of articles on "vanilla" Bitcoin and joined pieces together with the base understanding I had on the blockchain... Then went deeper into the topic of privacy, and things got sour real quick. I get the impression way too many people get into this for speculation, hence why exchangers that require AML/KYC are the most popular and convenient way to buy crypto, but I don't want any of the inconveniences that come with them; namely, my loss of privacy, and having to endure any kind of horsesh*t regulators will come up with in the future if they see you having spent any amount of fiat on crypto.
The cold wallet was the first step towards keeping my coins, but also the easiest. I realized my only options were Bisq or Hodl Hodl to buy BTC anonymously, ideally following this plan: set up my own full node (pruned, as I don't have many resources) with a hot wallet previously, coinjoin the coins and finally send the funds to my Trezor. Whew. I don't even know how to proceed with any of this, yet.

And then comes the realization that BTC transactions are very slow and fees have become even more expensive, so I looked into BCH and obviously any kind of Bisq equivalent. Seems like Openswap is an option, but I only found out about it in one of your threads and that's it. To top it all, I see there's currently some kind of deal with ABC, one of many BCH full node software.

Yup, my head is spinning harder than a merry-go-round right about now. I'd appreciate some advice from the community on... anything, really. I just want to get some BCH from Europe, man.

    Forking wallets

If there'll be another fork, which wallet will ensure I have access to both coins? From past experience, I believe Ledger will not support a fork.

Fee-per-byte cofirmation speed: slow, medium, fast

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:08 AM PDT

Hey guys, playing with the payment tools it's taking forever to confirm a simple tx using one sat per byte so the question is what's the best way to accelerate confirmations without breaking the bank?

I'd like to get a ballpark figure like 1 SxB for slow, 10 SxB for medium and 50 SxB for fast confirmations or something along the lines so I can test faster. Thanks in advance.

I prefer jtoomim's aserti3-2d Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm over Bitcoin ABC's Grasberg. That is all.

Curious about the history of the BCH Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm? Want a technical-but-not-too-technical overview of what's up with the current DAA, and why Jonathan Toomim decided to propose his implementation of Mark Lundeberg's ASERT? Then check out this video, now on LBRY =)
