Reminder: The Binance "Up to 2 BTC, No KYC" is a con

Because of my post history in /r/Binance I periodically get people that DM me asking about ways to recover their funds from Binance after Binance has dropped the KYC hammer on them. There are lots of reasons people can't meet the KYC requirements, typically either they don't have the docs that Binance asks for (an example, I kid you not: "What was the IP address you used when you first signed up?") or they don't want to give the docs to Binance on principal. (What jurisdiction are they in again? How many times have they been compromised? Can I trust them with my passport or other sensitive documents?)

I had yet another such discussion today with someone that had a significant amount of their money seized. So just a reminder folks - the "Up to 2 BTC, No KYC" claim is a lie. They frequently lock user funds and try to KYC you while transacting in volumes far less than that. When they lock your funds and KYC you for the first time they have no idea whether you are the person that opened the account or someone that just found your phone on a park bench.

I used to post on the /r/Binance sub in response to users that had been locked out. I figured I could do some good, trying to encourage policy change so people wouldn't lose their money anymore. Instead they blocked me from posting in support of such users. Conversation with the moderator:

Introducing Pollen: the First Decentralized Testnet for IOTA 2.0

    Main features:

    • Fast Probabilistic Consensus — IOTA's new consensus algorithm for a decentralized network.

    • Value Transactions — network participants can now use an automated faucet to receive tokens, send value transactions (via a wallet) and test conflict resolution on the network.

    • Tokenized Assets — individuals can now 'color' IOTA tokens with different attributes that represent real-world assets such as buildings, IoT devices, or even company equity.

    • Prometheus and Grafana integration — node operators can now monitor several metrics by enabling a Grafana dashboard.

    • Feeless dApps — this release includes a future capability for the IOTA ecosystem: the development of feeless decentralized applications.

You can download the new release and see the full changelog here.

Your experiences with the crypto.com ecosystem

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 08:46 PM PDT

I'd like to hear about your experiences.

I was looking at crypto.com because of the prepaid card, but then noticed CRO. Holy moly. What's going on there?

Back to the card. How much have you used it? I want to hear from someone who is using it for a lot of purchases.

Is their wallet decentralized? You send money from your regular wallet to their wallet to the card. And you can do this as much as you want? You can keep small amounts of money on the card, limiting how much they can screw you over?

Can you transfer money FROM the card back to your wallet? Their help website doesn't mention how to do that.

I don't like that they only have an app, and not web. Some things, like a connection to my bank, I don't want to have on my phone.

Distributed Ledger Technology Experiments in Payments and Settlements

So far, experiments with DLT experimentations point to the potential for financial infrastructures to move towards real-time settlement, flatter structures, continuous operations, and global reach. Testing in large-value payments and securities settlement systems have partly demonstrated the technical feasibility of DLT for this new environment. The projects examined analyzed issues associated with operational capacity, resiliency, liquidity savings, settlement finality, and privacy. DLT-based solutions can also facilitate delivery versus payment of securities, payment versus payment of foreign exchange transactions, and efficient cross-border payments.
