We should STOP attacking Amaury, and instead try to work constructively with the guy.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 10:26 AM PDT

I believe that the reason why Amaury has stopped contributing in the forum is because of the daily attacks on his character and coding skills.

Now we need Amaury, if we want to resolve anything on Bitcoin ABC, as he is the leading developer of this implementation, and has stayed the course with BCH.

Even if the plan is to make BCHN the leading implementation, we still need to work together so that we can hold onto as many developers and members of the community as possible.

IF we want a harmoniuos relationship between the community and ALL the developers, so that Bitcoin Cash can become sound money for the world, then we need to get on so that we can influence them.

Please note, I am not defending his character, actions, or the competency of his leadership.

Please don't automatically downvote, but instead, give your feedback.

To outcompete BTC, we don't need to correct the emission schedule (and slow down block times). *Already* our CW144 averages closer to 600s/blk than BTC's imprecise DAA. If we were switch to ASERT, we will get fewer oscillations. But even if we don't the next halving will be BTC *before* BCH.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:04 AM PDT

From /u/jtoomim in the DAA workgroup:

Jonathan Toomim, [Jul 13, 2020, 9:15:22 PM]: ...BTC is currently on block 639,165, whereas BCH is on block 643,818.

It has currently been 605,390*600 seconds since the genesis block. This means that BTC is 33,775 blocks (234 days) ahead of schedule meanwhile, BCH is 38,428 blocks (267 days) ahead of schedule, or 4,653 blocks ahead of BTC.

According to asert-2d (aserti3-415.5), this means that the difficulty should currently be 2234/2 = 1.6 e+35 on BTC and 1.5 e+40 on BCH. Meanwhile, difficulty is only 1.73 e+13 on BTC and 4.0 e+11 on BCH.

BTC has averaged 568.29 seconds per block since Jan 8, 2009. If BCH maintains 1 block every 600.00 seconds on average hereafter, BTC's height will overtake BCH's height in about 611.4 days.

My comment: Note that with either CW144 (current DAA) or ASERT (proposed by the DAA WG except for Amaury) - we will average closer to 600s anyway -- and BTC will halve before us next time around. BTC has more inflation because their DAA is just less precise and slower to adjust to what amounts to a steady rise in hash as technology improves.

So the tl;dr is: We don't need to slow down the block times. Grasberg's 11-minute block times are not needed to stay competitive. Just ASERT by itself will do the trick and we will stay competitive and outcompete BTC in no time.

ABC is always saying they don't have sufficient resources to develop. However, for the DAA they chose the most resource-intensive path of creating from scratch and testing(?), rather than building/validating/modifying what others have done and porting to ABC

Not trying to be divisive as I respect ABC, I just wanted to point out the incoherence and hope that they can work better with the ecosystem

(?) for testing given that no results of testing the Grasberg DAA against other have been made publicly available

After receiving feedback from the community in the form of vitriolic criticism, because of their inability to properly communicate, ABC published a revised, simplified Grasberg DAA, and they are asking for more feedback...

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:19 PM PDT

Surprising. They even thanked @marcoJcosta @MarkLundeberg

However, they still have to address why they even allow the feedback to be so negative, distracting and draining for the all of us.

Hard fork suggestion: Decreased block reward rather than increased block time? [Satire]

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:22 PM PDT

Assuming the intent of increased block times is actually block reward reparation--instead why not make said reparations but maintain current 600 second block targets by simply decreasing the block reward by10% to 5.625 BCH. No 10% confirmation delays needed and miners get to see exactly what they're voting for up front! Alternatively, if we're bothering to change the block target time why not change it to 330 seconds (5.5 minutes) and decrease the block reward to 3.125 BCH. Additionally, we could even wait until two weeks before the August 15th code freeze to introduce the idea by submitting the code and proposal while completely ignoring all other alternatives. This could have the added benefit of sowing even more fear, uncertainty, and doubt and creating even more division but hey, shorter confirmation times. Win/win?
