    Ethereum Addresses Crossed 100 Million

    Ethereum Addresses Crossed 100 Million

Total Ethereum addresses just crossed 100 million. Even when slicing that number up to account for actual activity, all metrics point to accelerating growth and adoption that's beating even early internet use.

This is relevant for DeFi, because what's the use of rebuilding the financial system if no-one is there to use it? Since most of DeFi is built on Ethereum, the number of people using the Ethereum network is a key metric to gauge how big open finance can actually get.

There are different ways to measure Ethereum use —total addresses, transactions per day, new addresses per day, etc. The most recent milestone was in in total cumulative unique Ethereum addresses crossing 100 million.

But it needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as one person can have multiple addresses, some of them long forgotten, and in other cases, they could have been created automatically by trading bots.

Have there been any token-value-maximizing-futarchy DAOs?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2020 10:50 AM PDT

In An Introduction to Futarchy (https://blog.ethereum.org/2014/08/21/introduction-futarchy/) Vitalik Buterin describes a protocol for allocating a DAO's resources in ways that speculators predict will maximize the value of some token.

Has this actually been implemented in any DAOs yet? I've googled it but can only find some experiments, or advisory prediction markets - nothing where the allocation is fully decided by the market. I'm also curious about how a DAO controlled by futarchy, with no goal other than maximizing its token's value, would behave. Can somebody enlighten me?

Issue when sending offline. 2.5 ETH lost?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 07:32 PM PDT

I was attempting to perform a offline send of a ERC20 token form my wallet. I was following instructions here: https://kb.myetherwallet.com/en/offline/offline_transaction/ On that page it says: "Excess gas will be refunded, so don't be afraid to raise it as high as 100,000".

The first time I tried to perform this transaction I got a error that said "intrinsic gas too low". I googled that error and found this page: https://www.reddit.com/r/MyEtherWallet/comments/9eac0o/intrinsic_gas_too_low/ and saw this: "the problem was not the Gwei price (4 Gwei was plenty) but the gas limit default of 21000. Raised to 50000 and it went through immediately"

So I thought what could go wrong if I set the gas limit and gas price to be 50,000 since I thought and extra fee would be refunded to me. The transaction failed, and I am now missing 2.5 ETH from my wallet. Is there anything I can do to get this back? I think I am SOL, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. This is a truncated screenshot of my transaction: https://imgur.com/a/HH4Pnuu

**Edit** I reached out to the pool that mined the block to see if they can help. Not sure what else I can do.

Building an app on Ethereum (this May be a stupid question)

    Posted: 12 Jun 2020 04:21 PM PDT

    Hi All,

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I thought this was the best place for me to ask.

I've been a long time lurker in the crypto space having been involved in 2013/14 mining dogecoin for fun and then getting involved again in 2017 where I made my first crypto purchases.

I believe in crypto and blockchain long term and now really want to immerse myself in the technology by taking on a project and a practise use case.

I'd like to try and learn to code a dapp - specifically one that works just like a signature (I'm pretty sure a dapp for this exists already, but I wanted to pick a use case that would solve an actual problem I encounter), I'd like to try and build something that works as a digital signature for signing contracts, or a way of verifying contracts that runs on the blockchain.

If I wanted to get started doing this, where would be the best place to start? I'm a business guy and my coding knowledge is limited to some seriously basic html, but I'd like to give this a go - not super worried if it takes me 2 years to learn, 10 years to learn or if I never finish it at all, I just want to jump in and learn a bit more about the space and coding and thought that trying to build a dapp would be a good way to start.

If anyone had any suggestions or advice I would absolutely welcome it and if this is a stupid question then please feel free to ignore!

    Cheers for your time everyone
