Atstake: an Ethereum-based competitor to Haven/OpenBazaar but supporting more powerful contracts

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT

    History / context

After starting work on a prototype at ETHWaterloo in 2017, seven months ago my friend and I launched an early beta of Atstake. The beta let you make agreements with people where one or both of you stake ETH or ERC20 tokens and then have them distributed in any way between you based on any criteria/events. You can see the reddit thread for that announcement here.

    What we're launching today

We just added the ability create postings to let others know what types of contracts they'd like to participate in, or search and browse the postings of other users. You can check out a visual tour of the end to end flow here.

Along with our previous features this allows us to become an open marketplace for services, goods, and almost any kind of two-person contract.

You can think of Atstake now as Craigslist / Amazon / AirBNB / Upwork / Stickk but with Ethereum smart contracts protecting you from counterparty risk via two-of-three multisig.

    Differences vs. Haven/OpenBazaar

Our most similar competitor that we're aware of is OpenBazaar / Haven. You might prefer to use Atstake if any of the following features are important to you

    • You can use Ethereum / ERC20s.
    • General contracts where both parties stake funds which can be split in any way.
    • Ability to stake external proven sources of reputation on contract performance.
    • Only the loser of a dispute pays an arbitration fee.

You might prefer OpenBazaar if these things are important to you:

    • The hosting of the site itself being decentralized. Atstake decentralizes what we regard as the "important" part -- the money and the contract enforcement. Basically our site could be shut down resulting in the loss of all posting info and user profile info, but it wouldn't cause anyone to lose money because the contracts are still on Ethereum and we have no special privileges regarding them. You can see how to interact with any in-progress contracts if we ever disappear here.
    • A really polished UI.
    • Ability to use coins outside of the ETH/ERC-20 ecosystem.
    • A bigger network effect (as of now).

Misc / feedback / call for arbitrators

Atstake is still completely free to use, and all of our smart contracts are visible at https://github.com/atstake/atstake.

We're still looking for as much feedback as we can get. Please share any thoughts on how we can make Atstake better

Finally, as a new platform we're looking for more users who want to act as (paid) arbitrators for the contracts of others. If you have good reputation in the crypto community and you want Atstake to feature you as one of our default arbitrators, let us know!

You can find us on twitter at atstakeapp. The two people building this are elliot_olds and ethgeek.

    ENS Transfer question

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 03:35 AM PDT

    Hi there,

I'm trying to change the ENS owner. I followed mycrypto instructions 'how to/ens/changing the ens owner' it was simple and easy to follow.

But I noticed on the transaction details using etherscan: the 'to contract' is the Old Registrar, is that okay?

Event log shows newOwner: as right address.

But its not showing up on app.ens.domains.

Should I change the 'to contract' to the New Redistrar?
