Satoshi: "small casual transactions" "Peer-to-Peer" "Cash"

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:52 PM PDT

    https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

"Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System"

    Peer-to-Peer

    Cash

"Introduction: Commerce on the Internet has come to rely almost exclusively on financial institutions serving as trusted third parties to process electronic payments. While the system works well enough for most transactions, it still suffers from the inherent weaknesses of the trust based model. Completely non-reversible transactions are not really possible, since financial institutions cannot avoid mediating disputes. The cost of mediation increases transaction costs, limiting the minimum practical transaction size and cutting off the possibility for small casual transactions, and there is a broader cost in the loss of ability to make non-reversible payments for nonreversible services."

Repetition for emphasis: "limiting the minimum practical transaction size and cutting off the possibility for small casual transactions"

Satoshi is saying here that the goal is to have small casual transactions. The system envisioned is peer-to-peer so within this context the goal is to have small casual transactions peer-to-peer.

Buying a coffee is a small casual transaction.

Stupid Idea: Bitcoin Cash Wallet + COVID token = decentralized + anonymized contract tracing.

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 04:08 AM PDT

This is probably a tremendously stupid idea, but couldn't we push adoption by enabling anonymized and decentralized contract tracing by having a COVID token issued on-chain by national health service?

    Idea:

    • The wallets would create new public addresses (every x minutes) using HD and broadcast those via Bluetooth.
    • The wallets would record the addresses of others distributed via Bluetooth.
    • Once you are infected the national health services (NHS) will issue and send you COVID tokens.
    • Your wallet redistributes those COVID tokens to all public keys it has recorded in the timeframe in which you might have infected others.

    Advantages:

    • no central entity
    • no servers that can fail or be hacked
    • doesn't leak additional information (identity of infected is already known to NHS)
    • voluntarily (don't use the app if you don't want to)
    • transparent and verifiable (everything is recorded on-chain)
    • gives everybody who wants contract tracing a Bitcoin Cash wallet (yay for adoption)
    • Bitcoin Cash community could either trade the tokens (given them value) or distribute actual Bitcoins for those owning the COVID tokens (charity for those infected, double yay for adoption)

This will cause lots of transactions for which BoTtleneCk is simply not useful but Bitcoin Cash has sufficient capacity.

I feel like I'm missing something big here. Why is my idea stupid?
