RX470 8GB Sapphire mining edition - any bios for normal use / gaming (without atikmdag patcher)

    Posted: 04 Feb 2020 07:53 AM PST

I have RX470 mining edition with DVI output. It gives picture over DVI but every time I update drivers I have to install atikmdag patcher to make it work. This was normal procedure when I used it for mining. Now I'm planing to reuse it in some gaming environment and I was wondering if there are some BIOS with what I don't have to install patch after every driver update?

I tryed all 4 BIOS versions (came with the card) and all of them require atikmdag patcher.

Vega 56 and gtx 1070 ti

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:56 PM PST

I see a few of these on craigslist. Are they even worth picking up now day?

    • Since monero moved away from GPU mining, vega is pretty much dead. Is there an alternate coin that vega can be put on?

    • What about on the nvidia end? The last time I checked, raven coin was good with nvidia, but ever since the fork, either new asic or fpga has flooded ravencoin's network.

At what electricity rate is it even profitable to mine now day?

    Thanks.

AMD Mining GPUs - Detailed Look

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 12:32 PM PST

As an example of why the AMD mining GPUs (specifically AMD ones, as this is not true of the Nvidia ones) are largely unmodified versions of their retail models - I'm going to do a short breakdown of the 4GB Sapphire RX 470 - https://www.sapphiretech.com/en/commercial/radeon-rx-470-dual-x-mining-8g-g5 - shown here. The VBIOS for it which I'll be breaking down in this post, I sourced from TechPowerUp - https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/196226/196226 - which you can find there.

    Basic information:
VBIOS part number is 113-WE353FU-M73, with a last modified timestamp of 05/05/17 at 03:43. It is an RX 470 GPU (Ellesmere), with a PCI Express bus type and 4GB of GDDR5. The original file name for the VBIOS was 353P5SFC.M73, and its subsystem vendor ID is 0X174B, with subsystem device ID 0X353E.

    PowerPlayInfo:
The fan's maximum RPM is listed as 3200 here, yet is limited to 2800. The only other notable anomaly is that the Maximum ASIC Operating Temperature is set to 84C (lower than it is on retail GPUs.)

    Display Info:
This is one of the strongest indicators I've found that these are not actually modified substantially - only marketed as such... the VBIOS shows that this GPU has (or should have) 2 DisplayPort connectors, two HDMI Type A connectors, and one DVI-D connector. While I cannot check for absolute certain due to not having one of these GPUs myself, this indicates to me that the PCB still has these connections routed - only the connectors have been removed.

    P104 and 8C riser problem

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 12:07 PM PST

Strange thing. A gtx1070 was running flawlessly in one of my rigs in riser version 8C. I decided to swap the 1070 for a P104-100, leaving the riser and mobo connector intact. The P104 did not show up under windows device manager after rebooting. Tried a second P104-100, also did not work. I know for sure that the P104's are OK. The rig uses a mixture of version 6C, 8C and 9S risers. I found out that the P104's refuse to work version 8C risers, where the 1070 works perfectly in 6C, 8C, and 9S. The P104's do work in the 9S riser but not in the 8C. Any insights on this?

[Survey] Are you using your own computer or renting GPUs to do the mining?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:38 AM PST

Hi, I'm doing market research for an early stage web service product. We just want to learn what ayour needs are when it comes to intense computing...Considering the name of this community i guess the answer is obvious haha but we still want to learn some details, like are you using any web services? are you paying for those services? are you satisfied with the speed or the solutions it currently provides?

If you have 1 minute to spare, here's the link to the survey 👉https://ntlabs.typeform.com/to/Hpjz2i or just leave a comment

    Many many thx.
