Erik Voorhees on Twitter: I gotta say... maxi's today sound an awful lot like those who ignored Bitcoin in the early days. "Scam." "Ponzi." "Will never work." "Only gold can be money." I know I won't convince you that there is value, virtue, and beauty in the crypto world beyond just Bitcoin.

You Guys Convinced Me - Bought My First BCH

You guys may remember I posted a "Convince me why BCH" post a few days ago and I was delighted with how many people got involved in the post, made solid points and were just very courteous and welcoming.

People asked why not post it on the other bitcoin subreddit asking why BTC however that post was not approved by the admins unfortunately.

I did make the case that I only decided to buy BTC over BCH due to fear and focusing to much on the short term marketcaps of the respective projects.

Ideology wise I feel BCH better represents the goals of why I am interested in cryptocurrency.

I have loved the Roger Ver podcasts and the Humans of Bitcoin podcasts, listening to them daily.

Since that post I sold a computer game I got for Christmas and have used that money to purchase my first ever BCH (0.05) and I have now set myself a goal of owning 0.1 BCH come next payday and becoming 1 in 210,000,000!

The end goal is of course owning 1 BCH, so ironically the small marketcap atm suits me haha.

Thank you for being so welcoming in my first post and I look forward to getting more involved in this subreddit :)

    Have a great Sunday!

    The case for ASIC mining

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 02:50 PM PST

The recent dust up about an enforced dev fund, mining cartel, etc. got me wondering. I know Monero has made a point of adopting RandomX as a hashing algorithm in order to try and avoid mining being dominated by ASIC farms. I also know that there are people in the BCH camp who feel that this is a mistake, and that ASIC miners dominating the mining scene is a good thing for the ecosystem.

But I am not really clear on what the reasons are for the pro-ASIC perspective. One argument I recall hearing is that ASIC-dominated mining means it is less attractive for black-hats to set up mining botnets. That seems like a helpful point. But are there any others?

Is there any good reading material you can suggest to help me understand the case in favour of ASIC-dominated mining?

Nobel Prize-winning economist wants to "SHUT DOWN cryptocurrencies"

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 02:32 PM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/02/joseph-stiglitz-we-should-shutdown-the-cryptocurrencies.html?__source=twitter%7Cmain

"We have a very good currency, so far the currency has been run in a very stable way, there is no need for anybody to go to a cryptocurrency. In our standard course on economics we talk about the attributes of a good currency, and the US dollar has all those attributes and cryptocurrencies do not have those attributes. I actually think we should shut down the cryptocurrencies".

Something tells me that his "standard" course on economics doesn't even mention the Austrian school or sound money principles. Also he accidentally slips when he admits that he's worried about people "going to cryptocurrency". This is the biggest fear of central banks.

Sweeping Paper Wallet with Updated Bitcoin.com wallet

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 10:05 AM PST

There used to be a "Scan" function built into the wallet, and when you scanned the private key QR code of a paper wallet it would give the option to sweep those funds into an existing wallet.

This option has disappeared, now there is only a "Send" and "Receive" function.

Can someone please point out something that I'm obviously missing..? I find it hard to believe they'd remove this feature completely!
