Have you ever used ETH to buy something?

What was the experience like? What did you like? What did you not like? What wallets are best suited for payments, and what would you like to be able to do that you can't do now?

(Full disclosure: I work for BitPay, trying to gather insights as we build our payment tech for ETH!)

When are the Multi-client testnet/s for ETH 2 Phase 0 going live?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 07:40 AM PST

I imagine these testnets would need to run for a month or two before scheduling launch of the live beacon chain. Is Q1 2020 still going to happen?

Is there a system that contains just one HTM file, that performs the functions of MetaMask?

    Posted: 21 Nov 2019 07:09 AM PST

I am thinking about creating a system that contains just one HTM file (called Ethereum.htm) that can perform all the functions of Metamask, without the risk of running a centralized Chrome Extension that can be changed at any time by the company that markets it (ConsenSys). The Ethereum.htm file can be downloaded, and run from Chrome directly from your computer's desktop (you don't have to upload it to a server). There are no complicated installation processes (which often installs files that you can't see the source code for). The only additional files are web3.min_1.36.js and ethereumjs-tx.js. The source code will be easy to view, and there are no calls to server-side scripts.

Here is why someone would use this for their Ethereum tasks, instead of MetaMask:

    • It is completely open-source and transparent, unlike MetaMask which has much of its source code either hidden or unintelligible.
    • It is easy to customize. The javascript will exemplify how to perform all the Ethereum tasks, so even a novice programmer can create additional functions using the same concepts.
    • It is the most secure way to perform Ethereum transactions, because there is no communication with any server whatsoever (other than Infura, which is required to perform Ethereum tasks).

MyEtherWallet and MyCrypto each require that you download hundreds of files, which are too many to audit. They also make server-side calls, which makes auditing pointless.

My motivation in creating this is to receive attribution, which will be required as per the Creative Commons license.
