This year's devcon is disappointing Posted: 08 Oct 2019 04:28 PM PDT 1) It's right in the middle of nowhere. 2) Half of the conference is in basement and other half on the 6th floor with normal businesses on the other floors. There are often long queues for elevators. 3) They ran out of food vouchers and sim cards. So no food and Internet for me apparently. Did they not know how many people bought the tickets? 4) The rooms are quite small and room for every good talk is full to its brim. No place to even stand. 5) The wifi does not work. It's always full. I had to use hotspot from my mobile to load my slides. 6) There's no live streaming (except main stage maybe) and some rooms don't even have a setup for recording. That being said, Japan is beautiful, the community is awesome and after parties are litt so it's not all grim but it's certainly not as good as last year's devcon. Perhaps this is because Japan is waaay more expensive than Prague. Nobody forced EF to do devcon in Japan though. They could have done it in a relatively cheap place like Bali or Bangkok. I hope next devcon is better. [link] [comments]

Wallet for large ETH amounts (Hardware not available) Posted: 08 Oct 2019 11:38 AM PDT I'm looking to buy $x,xxx.xx ETH very soon. I'm new to Ethereum, I've only really played with BTC. What is a secure wallet that I can use? I don't want online wallets or browser based wallets. I want multisig or 2fa. Any ideas what the best ones would be? Thanks. Edit: The country that I'm in would currently be very hard for me to get a physical hardware wallet, but I will get one in the coming months. [link] [comments]

Tokenizing access to web apps - what are your thoughts? Posted: 08 Oct 2019 02:30 AM PDT I've just put together an article for the project we're working on: https://medium.com/@SergeyGoncharov/introducing-apptokens-buy-sell-tokenized-access-to-web-apps-9bb66d883e12 TLDR: You will be able to buy ERC20 tokens which will be redeemable for access to web apps. One token per web app. The reason to buy access to web apps with tokens instead of a credit card is the added ability to sell non-redeemed tokens if you don't want to use the app anymore or buy a lot of them at a discount and re-sell them at profit to other buyers and end-users. Any thoughts? Does the idea excite you? Do you see any problems with it? Also, we're looking for web apps to participate. Chat with me on Telegram: gonchs [link] [comments]
Are there any plasma projects that are using decentralised oracles? Posted: 08 Oct 2019 06:39 AM PDT from my understanding on how plasma works, you send your tokens to a gateway contract where they are locked up. an event is then fired that is detected by an oracle which in turn assigns the tokens to the user on the plasma chain. is this the only way to transfer assets between the main chain and plasma chains? is the use of a decentralized oracle, such as chain link possible? Investigating the loom network, i was unable to find out how their oracle worked, so I'm assuming it is centralized. Does the centralization of the oracle make loom and similar platforms no better than a centralized server? if loom wanted to, could they withdraw assets by sending a request from their oracle that wasn't backed by and deposit on the other chain?
