How To Spot And Avoid Ponzi Scheme In Crypto

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 11:28 PM PDT

Cryptocurrency is one of the most risky yet rewarding investments nowadays. All kinds of people have made huge amounts of money by investing in cryptocurrency, from the tech-savvy people to the average crypto trader. This era of cryptocurrency transactions has lead to more people looking for information about cryptocurrency investing. Investing is persistent and it takes knowledge about the projects one wants to invest in. One responsibility of being a cryptocurrency enthusiast is to ensure safety on doing transactions for them not to end as a victim of attacks or fraud. One threat is called a Ponzi scheme, described as a fraudulent investment campaign in which people are deceived into investing large sums of money while being promised high rates of return that are not from legitimate business activities, profits or trading. The Ponzi scheme is named after a swindler named Charles Ponzi, who orchestrated crimes on fraudulent investment. The schemes are advertised as being no risk to investors and are backed by financial reports and investor testimonials showing off their high earnings & lifestyle change. Remember that projects that engage in a Ponzi scheme focus all of their energy into attracting new clients to make investments.

This is a threat as it deceives all the investors in the project. To spot and avoid this kind of deception, and investor or trader should be skeptical and suspicious of unsolicited offers. It's okay to be suspicious if there's a guaranteed promise of high returns with little risk. A consistent flow of returns, regardless of market conditions, is very surprising knowing the high volatility of cryptocurrency. As said in this article, any project that obscures how their token operates, only offering vague promises of functionality, is hiding something and should be avoided. One of the cornerstones of the cryptosphere is transparency and the ability for users to thoroughly investigate new projects. It should also be a red flag if investment strategies that are secret or described as too complex to explain. If one is experiencing difficulties removing their money on a certain platform and is not allowed to view official paperwork for their investment they should be careful for they might end up as a victim of a Ponzi scheme. Unfortunately for most victims of these operations, by the time this last red flag is noticed it's too late to do anything about it. As an investor, it's their task to be responsible and knowledgable before doing some investments and check the things mentioned above to not end up as a victim of these threats.
