Today, my bank suddenly blocked BTC purchases. They cancelled my cards and locked my account. Posted: 13 Sep 2019 12:10 AM PDT I've had the same bank forever, and have regularly made BTC purchases over a period of 2 years with no problems. Then suddenly today when I tried to buy some more sats, they just straight up cancelled my cards and blocked my account with no warning. I have no cash and it's friday, so I'm basically fucked until at least monday, as they said it would take a couple working days to resolve the issue or whatever. This is bullshit. I've seen a lot of posts saying shit like this, but I never had any trouble. I'm pissed. Edit: forgot to say which bank. It's Danske Bank (Danish Bank), I live in Norway And I'm talking about debit card. Never had a credit card in my life Danske Bank even stated last year that they won't stop users from investing in crypto. https://danskebank.com/news-and-insights/news-archive/news/2018/23032018 [link] [comments]

Is it too late to buy Bitcoin? Posted: 13 Sep 2019 02:34 AM PDT I'm only 21 and would only be able to invest a little bit with each paycheck. Do you think it's worth the risk or should I put that money into a high yield savings or index funds? [link] [comments]

Another reason Bitcoin is a good savings account Posted: 13 Sep 2019 12:12 AM PDT Take gold, for example. If the price goes up, mining companies are incentivized to pull more gold out of the ground, and thus the supply increases, debasing the world gold market (by a modest amount), which brings the price down, or at least keeps the price from rising significantly. This is dynamic is more common in less rare metals like silver and copper (as spelled out in the Bitcoin Standard). With Bitcoin, if the price goes up, and more people get into mining it, it doesn't increase the supply of Bitcoin, it literally just increases the quality of Bitcoin by providing more security (higher hashrate) in the network. I can't think of any other asset class that has this dynamic. tldr: Gold: Price goes up -> Supply goes up -> price comes down. Bitcoin: Price goes up -> Security goes up -> Value proposition of Bitcoin increases -> price goes up -> security goes up -> etc, etc. [link] [comments]
Bitcoin: only good for selling to a bigger fool later? Posted: 13 Sep 2019 12:06 AM PDT I keep seeing these talking heads saying, "bitcoin is a hyper-speculative investment that doesn't produce anything, and people only buy it hoping to sell it to a bigger fool later for a higher price". (Both Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have said this). If you take a step back for a minute, you realize they're criticizing people for literally just wanting to store their wealth in an asset class that can't be debased. So there you have it, if you think saving for a rainy day is a good thing, you're actually just a speculative fool according to these people. [link] [comments]

How to use lightning network without smartphone? Posted: 13 Sep 2019 12:23 AM PDT Are there any web wallets, desktop wallets or cli wallets for VPS that allow you to generate and pay lightning network invoices? I found a Chrome extension but would prefer to use a regular website. I just want to transfer small amounts so custodial is fine (just no "KYC"). Also after you receive lightning network funds, how can you withdraw it to regular on-chain BTC? Or can you only spend it in websites that support lightning? [link] [comments]

Can I run a Raspiblitz LN node over Tor and still connect to it with Zap (iOS)? Posted: 13 Sep 2019 01:33 AM PDT Or is it only possible if not running the node over Tor? Also, can the bitcoin node run over Tor while LND doesn't run over Tor on the same Raspiblitz? [link] [comments] |
