What happened to the ERC20 Token that was proposed to encourage people to stake their 32 ETH in the initial Contract?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:04 PM PDT

Last I heard the deposit contract was going to open around Devcon time. There was also a requirement for 3M ETH to be locked up before much would be done with it.

Someone proposed an ERC20 token to be given to all the OG 32 ETH Deposits making up this initial 3M.

I would totally be interested in that, and surprised to not hear more about this incentive. It would be AWESOME to be a part of history like this.

If this happens in an official capacity, you have my 32 ETH.

    Uses for a DAI CDP

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 01:12 PM PDT

Hey folks. I'm lending DAI on Compound. When I tell people about it, they ask why anyone would take a loan through Compound at whatever interest rate (16.59 % now). I'm trying to come up with good reasons. I lend rather than borrow, so I'm not really sure. Here is what I have so far:

The dude that bought pizza with BTC. He could have used the BTC as collateral for a stable coin and bought a pizza with that. When Btc went up, he could repay the loan and still have his crypto - he's rich.

People that may not be able to get a loan through a bank. As long as they have collateral on Compound, they are good.

Then I hit them with "what's the interest rate on your credit card?"

Are these good arguments? Anything to add?

When can I own a sports team on the blockchain?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 08:20 PM PDT

In theory, is this possible? Buy an asset such as a sports/esports team. Tokenize it and sell it back to the people whom live in the city at a small profit. Using proof of residency and a max ownership limit of 1 "share" and return the profits the team receives to the city the team represents. Or instead sell it to people in rural areas so they can benefit from the cash flowing through cities. Recording it on a blockchain such as Ethereum and pay out automatically through smart contracts. What are some of the companies doing this with real estate or other assets? Are there any available to someone in the U.S. and is it legally binding in a court of law? How far along are we before these become mainstream financial tools?

What exactly will validators on the Beacon Chain have to validate before sharding is implemented?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 02:47 AM PDT

As I understand it, the Beacon Chain will select proposers and committees of validators for itself and the shard chains. However, until the sharding is implemented, what will validators actually have to validate? Surely there will be nothing for them to do until Phase 1 sharding is implemented?

I’m just a bill, sitting on top of the crypto hill...

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 07:31 AM PDT

A tax bill was introduced to the House of Representatives on July 25th that would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow exclusion of gain or loss on like-kind exchanges of virtual currency.

"The use of digital assets is already treated as a sale of the asset, even though the economic reality of the transaction is a purchase of a simple consumer good" - North Carolina's Representative, Ted Budd.

Cryptoassets have suffered from double taxation due to outdated tax code and how it applies to this emerging asset class. Fortunately, new bills will hopefully get passed that clear up the grey tax regulations that result in confusion for the governments and their crypto holding citizens.

What do you think will happen?

Can I stake on the Prysm testnet with Windows 10 Home?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 03:30 AM PDT

I would like to contribute to the Ethereum2.0 network by staking and I am therefor trying to acces the testnet to learn how to do it. However, following the steps provided on https://alpha.prylabs.net/participate , I quickly realised I need Docker to generate a validator public/private key (step 3). Unfortunately, Docker requires me to have Windows 10 Pro and I have Windows 10 Home.

Is there any other way for me to get access? Thanks in advance.

(P.S. sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm just a layman trying to do his part.)

Tendermint: Building a blockchain app from scratch (a "How to" guide)

    Posted: 09 Aug 2019 02:06 AM PDT

    Hey everyone!

Our protocol developers, Artos Systems, have been looking into a bunch of things for us, such as zk-SNARKs and also Tendermint. We thought it would be cool to make some of the source code public and share it with you.

So, if you have ever wondered how to build a blockchain app from scratch using Tendermint? Well here's your answer: https://blog.aventus.io/tendermint-building-a-blockchain-app-from-scratch-78e3250abd0a?source=friends_link&sk=708a02f31162296ce9b3b862ddd81d78

The full source code is public and available here: https://github.com/ArtosSystems/tendermint-exp
