Just curious if it's all heads down, or if other projects are being monitored for any new breakthrough/innovations. If so, has anything come of it?

    Hey, there,

my name is Nina and I am part of the Ethereum Foundations. We are planning a launch of a new tool for Solidity developers this autumn and would really appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to check out our demo page and respond to a short survey.

I would like to thank you in advance. We would love to hear your input/feedback so we can make the product better suited for your needs!

Can we make auditing into a game of stakes and with rewards to build trust with a decentralized process?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:29 PM PDT

I posted this a little while ago but when I wrote my TL;dr I came up with this much better title and it is also the TL;dr of the following.

If I use MakerDAO or some such thing, how can I trust that it doesn't have a malicious or accidental bug in it and that this service can be trusted? Because it has been professionally audited. Maybe by several trusted professional services.

Can we come up with a decentralized process to solve this problem?

I imagine something like a contract publisher putting up a bounty and then a process of reviewing and put your stamp of quality on it, to do so you have to also lock in some amount to participate, maybe relative to the bounty or it could be a fixed price. Could potentially be bigger to really put the participants money on the line.

And then period of time to do this and some amount of slots that have to be filled for countdown can start. If less participants than that specified by the contract publisher then they have to up the bounty. If they want to pay for trust then you give a good bounty to get as many audits as possible because big dollars is on the line.

After the wait period the participants money is locked in and they have to provide a guaranteed quality audit and claim it good or flag it.

Depending on a vote that needs to take place within some time limit they have to vote good/bad/abstain.

If we assume there is a bug, those that voted the contract is good will have their participant funds seized and distributed between this who voted no and those who can abuse this bug and demonstrate it within some time limit, will share the money. Proving the bug can be trustlessly by demonstrating the bug using your auditor participant signature.

If every votes it good then the bounty will be shared between all participants. Over time the weight of the proven history can increase the percentage of the bounty that they will get.

This way there are both a short and term reasons to give the right answer.

Oh man. I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to be this long but I got inspired.

[proposal] a decentralized protocol for on-ramps

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:06 PM PDT

Ok this might be a very naive attempt, but I'd like to understand whether there are any flaws in such an approach and if it is feasible.

Problem statement: today there are not many options for on/off ramps except a centralized exchange, preventing access to crypto for many people who don't have a bank account. Solutions like local bitcoin and local ethereum seem to still have a centralized way to solve litigations.

Proposal: build a network of incentivized "notaries" who legitimate fiat transactions from users in exchange for a stablecoin.

The protocol would work in this way to get fiat in (on ramp): 1. The notaries will stake an amount of DAI (for example) of their choice into a smart contract. This operation will give them the right to print a pair of "objects": a debt and a claim of a specific amount of their choice but not greater than a percentage of their stake.

    1. The notary can at this point exchange physically fiat money with the claim, giving the user the opportunity to get his DAI from the stake.

    2. The notary now has the fiat and needs to put it on an exchange and clear the debt before it expires and his entire stake is slashed and distributed to the rest of the notaries.

Notaries are taking a fee on the operation, which is voted upon by all them, potentially creating a competitive market for a decentralized on ramp.

The choice for a stablecoin is to facilitate the transaction. Depending on how late the debt can be cleared, we need to avoid too use a coin that fluctuates, therefore the DAI.

I actually don't believe the protocol is too difficult to implement, but the adoption of it has some challenges. First of all the notary is effectively acting as a dummy on the behalf of potential criminals whose intent is launder money. They are taking the risk to expose themselves to transactions that, if large, are hard to justify. Additionally I'm not really sure to which extent this money transfer activity can be deemed as illegal.

Anyway, I though it was cool to share and get some feedback. I haven't thought a lot about off-ramp since I believe that digital money is the future, therefore no real need to get out of crypto.

    Posted: 07 Aug 2019 04:32 AM PDT

    Hi Guys;

Does anyone know of a mobile ERC20 wallet which either allows self service native integration of an ERC20 token or one that charges a reasonable (<0.5 BTC) fee for integration?
