So uhh... where'd all the r/EthTrader Mods go?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 01:30 PM PDT

Obvs posting this in r/ethereum instead of r/ethtrader because we've all been through this rodeo a dozen times before in the despotic Cryptostan of Reddytopia.

I wait with baited breath to hear the story this time u/carslarson u/jtnichols u/MrYukonC (edit: Oldskool already caught all my typos)

Who's censoring? Who should I hate? Please, I can't wait to hear what nefarious drama I missed this time... really... I'm so fucking excited to lose another reddit sub to tyranny...

    So shoot. Surprise me.

    Changing of links

    Posted: 18 Aug 2019 04:33 PM PDT

Since r/ethtrader is essentially run as a dictatorship by one moderator who purged the other mods who wouldn't kowtow to his party line, and is monetizing the content of that subreddit for his own financial benefit, I would like to suggest that r/ethereum remove the link to r/ethtrader and replace it with r/ethfinance/ . Shades of r/Bitcoin and Theymos here.

The majority of former r/ethtrader moderators are now moderators of r/ethfinance.

    Staking reward too low

Apparently initial reward will only be 14%. I assume this is the maximum possible rate(?). This seems ok given very low returns on other assets currently.

There were times where you could snatch similar rates on AAA governmet bonds. We can not rule out that those times will return.

Our asset class is more comparable (if to anything) to an emerging market, it should be priced that way. ETH2 security depends on attracting a minimum number of validators that should be driven by economic incentives. We risk losing the rational investor under market conditions that are not unlikely to occur.

A curve that declines steeply off 40%-70% sounds more sensible to me.

Geth - How do I stop my up-to-date full node from still downloading gigabytes of data and becoming an archive node?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2019 06:56 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm running a full node via Geth "geth --rpc".

It's on an M.2 SSD, since it crippled my hard drive before. Now that it got all of this IO available, Geth decides to still download tons of data:

    INFO [08-18|03:52:50.528] Imported new state entries count=933 elapsed=3.252ms processed=293407762 pending=61135 retry=0 duplicate=15957 unexpected=43697

    INFO [08-18|03:52:50.618] Imported new state entries count=1505 elapsed=7.868ms processed=293409267 pending=59733 retry=0 duplicate=15957 unexpected=43697

    INFO [08-18|03:52:50.727] Imported new state entries count=755 elapsed=2.703ms processed=293410022 pending=60328 retry=0 duplicate=15957 unexpected=43697

    INFO [08-18|03:52:51.269] Imported new state entries count=1524 elapsed=6.662ms processed=293411546 pending=59982 retry=13 duplicate=15957 unexpected=43697

What exactly does this mean? I really only need to be up to date with the mainnet to grab block header data, basically. Nothing more. It's continuously running and slowly filling up the free space on its partition, which is worrying me a bit.

I remember reading that this is normal after the initial syncing has finished. Geth will apparently try to become an archive node. How can I prevent that and just stay up to date whenever a new block is added to the chain? I know it's doing that in the background already.
