USAFoods is now accepting Bitcoin for payments

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:06 AM PDT

    Hi /r/Bitcoin!

We're just very excited to let you know that USAFoods.com.au in Australia is accepting Bitcoin as payment :)

We also had a little experiment day where we gave away free bitcoin in our Sydney Store (10% back on their purchase) to customers. Some people accepted it, some people didn't want it at all, some kept it and asked for an explanation of what it is, some came back and spent it with us!

Why does the average person hate Bitcoin so much?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 01:23 AM PDT

I can understand why those who benefit from the current financial system hate Bitcoin as it is a potential threat to them. But why do some many average people hate it? The current system offers them wage stagnation at best and a lifetime of being in debt. Actually, not only being in debt, but millennials are drowning in debt with little hope (besides Bitcoin) of escaping. Bitcoin offers a better alternative, but most people still have a negative opinion on it.

Edit: Why is it when ever someone asks a question on this sub, they are always downvoted? Am I not allowed to ask questions?

    My questions about Bitcoin

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 01:32 AM PDT

I have been in crypto for maybe 1.5 years now and still have some questions, that you can hopefully answer.

    1. Could someone just try bruteforcing private keys? Wouldn't you find someone's private key by doing that for a long period of time eventually?

    2. Doesn't a currency NEED inflation to work (I assume bitcoin to be "inflation-proof")? Wouldn't that mean that BTC would just go to infinity eventually? Also, why would anyone ever sell his BTC then, if it just keeps increasing forever?

    3. Would miners shut down after rewards get too small, thus making a 51% Attack easier?

    4. Why is it not a problem that every year more bitcoin are lost forever?

    5. Why does this whole community feel like such a circlejerk? People acting like bitcoins success is inevitable (Maybe it is, idk). Also I feel like everyone saying, to not trust banks/the media/etc. is not better than them?

    6. Should I ask these questions? Won't time and progress eventually solve the problems and major concerns?

    Thank you.

Got My First Full Node Running

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 04:07 PM PDT

I hope it is okay to post this here. If not let me know and I will delete. I just needed to tell someone who could appreciate it.

I took one of my old computers from like 2008 and put a new 1TB hard drive in it. Installed Linux and Bitcoin core from bitcoin.org and started downloading the blockchain. She'll only take 4GB of RAM max.

I have it cranked down on number of peers, so that it does not consume all of my bandwidth on the initial block download. I'd say that I have a little more than half of the blockchain in about 4 days of downloading off and on. I mostly let it run over night while I sleep.

I am now officially part of the solution. W00T!
