Best introductory book for a developer looking to build Ethereum apps?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 08:04 AM PDT

I don't know much about Ethereum, but I have spent all day reading up on it. I want to get a book on the subject for a more in-depth look, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good one? I'm particularly interested in creating Ethereum based currencies and smart contracts. I've been programming for about five years so I should be able to handle the technical side of things.

If this is not the best subreddit for this I can move: but who's got/used an HTC Exodus?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 12:06 PM PDT

I am really into and supportive of the Decentralized Apps I've heard so much about but haven't really tried to use yet. I've only used apps available for crypto trading itself, but I understand there's a whole market of these things now and the HTC Exodus is the only new phone that I know uses them. I also really like the idea of the cold-storage on a phone, thought I wonder if anybody has actually used this relatively new product yet. (It came out in April I believe of 2019?)

    Thoughts?

Lock-Harvest, a new token distribution mechanism

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 10:38 AM PDT

Many projects control the initial supply of tokens and use them to raise funds through ICO and private rounds. This is similar to how early stage companies raise money. It may be suitable for some projects, but in some cases, we do not want centralised control over the supply of tokens. That is why we propose the lock-harvest mechanism to fairly distribute tokens for Ethereum Elements with no centralised control over initial supply.

The idea for lock-harvest is to distribute new supply of tokens (with fixed maximum) every day to accounts which lock up their ETH. The amount minted for each account is proportional to how much ETH they have locked for the day. In this way nobody has an unfair advantage, and latecomers will still have a chance to gain some tokens without having to purchase off others in the open market.

This means of distribution is ideal for Ethereum Elements, because we aim to create a digital resource that is free for everyone to harvest for themselves and use as they see fit. The Ethele tokens comprise of Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, Yin, and Yang. They are ERC20 tokens which can be used as a scarce digital resources in your applications and games, for example as crafting material for your items or NFTs.

I would like to raise more awareness around this project so that mainnet launch can have more participants from day one, to achieve a more even token distribution early on in its lifetime.

And The Circus goes on: Parity-Ethereum Team "flying-blind", ignoring existent reproduction&fix.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2019 04:27 PM PDT

    You may remember this here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/c4sjpw/how_paritytech_keeps_6monhts_old_bugs_alive_at/

    What happened since then?

    Gossip Level

Well, the bounty-thieves from poanet moved on to Nethermind, most possibly realizing that parity-ethereum will degenerate more and more under the influence of the current incapable maintainers:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/c5o3ak/nethermind_partners_up_with_poa_network_for/

The product-manager of Gitcoin (ConsenSys decentralization-joke, "The Shame of All Dapps") justifies again and again the failures of the system. Here, ParityTech's dictator fails to cash-in his award:

    https://github.com/gitcoinco/web/issues/4701

As for my "tip", I tried to reject it, contacted gitcoin and ask for removal of the tip:

    https://github.com/paritytech/parity-ethereum/issues/10085#issuecomment-505094623

Nothing. Gitcoin still gives the impression that I got a tip. I know from experience that it makes no sense to contact ConsenSys in context of data-privacy etc. - last time the mail just went back.

This is how fascist-folks breath and live: they present their own reality, and to do so, they abuse.

    CoC Gossip

Code of Conducts are ridiculous documents, written for brainless folks. I mean seriously, any intelligent person does not need this "trara" to behave politely.

A primary goal of Parity is to be inclusive to the largest number of contributors, with the most varied and diverse backgrounds possible. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of [...], ability, [...].

Thus, discriminating a person cause of its lower ability... CoC violation.

And of course: discriminating a person cause of its higher ability... CoC violation.

    Code-Level

The parity-ethereum maintainers fire one PR after the other to bug #10085. "may fix". Or even "fixes", like the last one:

    https://github.com/paritytech/parity-ethereum/pull/10837

It is simply FASCINATING how this folks prefer to plub-around, how they ignore conceptional flaws right before their eyes, and of course: how they ignore an existent solution, just to not acknowledge that they did behave like pigs.

Now, because I have created a reproduction, isolated the root-cause, provided a fix and did some further dig-in (just out of curiosity, to see how incompetent this folks @ ParityTech is), I can now see whenever they introduce new "fuzzy" behaviour.

    Really a joke.

    Assimilating a Worthy Blockchain Code-Base

I looked a bit at Monero, and the result was that I revised my assessment of the Ethereum Foundation again.

    https://repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/ccs-proposals/merge_requests/82#note_6674

Monero is simply unbelievable sloppy, Ethereum-Foundation Projects feeel like clockwork in comparison.

    My final candidates are:

    - Ontology

    - VeChain

    - Ethereum (Ethereum Foundation Centric, NO(!) ConsenSys / ParityTech)
    - Stellar

    - Ripple
    - Cosmos

    Flash

Ethereum Foundation should counter ParityTechs development-directions, by transforming geth into a framework. Needs some hyper-abstractors... (guess...).

CINDX - One-stop solution for crypto asset management.

CINDX - One-stop solution for crypto asset management.

    https://i.redd.it/pvfihk2lb9831.jpg

CINDX - is a blockchain-based, multifunctional platform that allows absolutely anybody to invest in the crypto market, and consistently earn returns without possessing any specialized knowledge or skill set. CINDX provides users with a chance to enter the cryptocurrency market and access a multitude of services, including crypto asset management, trading tools and a social network within a single ecosystem
The problem with investing in cryptocurrency markets is that they are often wild, uncharted territory. Currently, few Investors have the knowledge to consistently and successfully profit on the market, compared to the number of those with experience in the more familiar, but much less rewarding traditional markets. There is now a fitting solution for Investors who would rather not manage their savings on their own, and that solution is CINDX.
CINDX allows absolutely anybody to invest in the crypto market and see returns without possessing any specialized knowledge or skills. CINDX provides a platform that allows any Investor to choose a Manager for their portfolio and securely trade cryptocurrencies for a reasonable success fee. Using CINDX, Investors can now access a range of verifiable, transparent statistics pertaining to individual Managers in order to choose a suitable trading strategy. These statistics include the Manager's performance history, the investment risk level and the type of cryptocurrency traded, among other things. With these statistics in hand, Investors can find the optimal solution for management of their assets. The following chart shows how the CINDX platform offers innovative solutions to common concerns with traditional investing

    The CINDX Platform

Investing in cryptocurrencies typically requires interfacing across multiple platforms and services. For example, third-party platforms for analytics and other trading tools are crucial for those who trade cryptocurrencies. CINDX provides its users with the ability to enter the cryptocurrency market and access a multitude of these services, including crypto asset management and a social network within a single ecosystem. CINDX's smart contracts, APIs and blockchain technology ensures that all data is provided to Investors in a transparent, immutable and censorship-resistant manner. Transparency is at the center of every process on the CINDX platform.
Every trade executed within the CINDX ecosystem is recorded on the blockchain, thus allowing CINDX users to easily access verifiable trading success stories. This information feeds a unique ranking system, which allows CINDX users to browse through a list of world-class Managers and view their performance history, statistics and other pertinent information. Investors can, in turn use, the information on the CINDX platform to select a suitable Manager and to drive their cryptocurrencies. Managers' accounts will sync with the Investors accounts through an API. In many ways, this is similar to the API feature on some other multi-cryptocurrency trading platforms, but CINDX is different.

    How it Works

    https://i.redd.it/vr0tmhvqb9831.png

When CINDX users choose a Manager, the APIs and smart contracts kick in. CINDX uses APIs as a 'portal', allowing the Investor's account to be managed by the account belonging to the Manager of their choosing. Additionally, the smart contract automatically registers every trade made by the Manager. It then copies and executes the very same deals on the Investor's account. The Manager sees the exact volume of entry into the trading order with the funds of Investors copying the transaction. CINDX algorithms monitor liquidity on the selected trading pair and warn the Manager about the low volume of Depth of Market. In some instances, the system can block the order of the Manager or offer to reduce its volume to avoid slippage and pump and dump strategies. Although many projects are proposing to provide a similar service in the future, the method CINDX applies has some features that makes it stand out. CINDX is extremely valuable for Managers, who can now attract more Investors than is feasible outside of the ecosystem. The key to CINDX's success lies in this: CINDX will simplify the process so that each Manager only has to be concerned with trading, while each Investor only has to be involved in choosing their Manager. Everything else is automated and fully secure.
