Do you carry your hardware wallet on your person?

Curious what the standard practice is. I use a BitPay wallet on my phone with a small balance for daily payments and keep a hardware wallet on my person with most of my holdings to transfer funds as needed.

If I hide my mnemonic phrase within the text of 200 other words, will a super computer be able to brute-force it?

Thinking it's not such a good idea keeping my ledger seed in plain text on paper. Would like to hide it a little better, was thinking of obfuscating it by hiding it with other words in a short story with 200 words. If an attacker finds my short story could he brute force the words and expose my key?

The Raiden Light Client is properly cool!

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 08:15 AM PDT

Well it is clear that the people have spoken and whilst the light client (https://lightclient.raiden.network) is still very much in DEV - it is a hit!

I have not see so much excitement around something from Raiden... well... ever! Not even for Red Eyes! And the light client does not even properly work yet!

(Side Note: The last time I noted as much excitement was when uRaiden payments drove a Remote Control Car at DevCon3. If you have not seen the video do yourself a favour... https://youtu.be/SNzc04wh7so)

If Brainbot was testing the water with this release of the light client then they got their answer - this is what the people want! They have knocked this idea out of the park!

New tech is adopted for 2 reasons:

    1. The tech is awesome.
    2. The tech is cool.

Brainbot has nailed 1. - the tech is awesome! The die hard Raiden fans know this. But awesome tech does not mean a home run. And judging just by price action and Twitter responses alone this is currently the case for Raiden.

Now with the Light Client they have ventured across into the cool tech. Making their awesome tech easy to use and adoptable!

Apple, Uber, Facebook, Google etc. all built and marketed themselves around awesome tech that was cool and easy to use. Yes even boring old Microsoft when Windows 3.0 came out it was cool (even if they did steal the idea from Apple.)

If it is cool and easy to use people will start to use it and a buzz will be created. Friends will tell friends and in this case Crypto Twitter will tell well Crypto Twitter... and everyone will want to give it a go. Just look at the craziness of CryptoKitties. Word of mouth and suddenly a cool product is king and becomes a part of life.

If it goes well, Dapps will want in on the buzz and will look to integrate the tech into their products to stay relevant and build their own brand.

Probably wallets first, then Exchanges and DeFi. We will also see dapps that require payment tools or fast mechanisms of transaction adopt it but they will have more practical reasons.

And assuming this all goes well and creates a large enough ground swell in the crypto world then the "real world" companies will want in because everyone in cryptoland uses it.

This is the snowball effect that is possible.

The Raiden Community has bravely endured this crypto winter without so much as hint of a snowflake... but for the first time in a long time I can feel it again... the electrcity is in the air and a storm is brewing!

I cannot wait for Brainbot to unleash the god of thunder and lightning!

    Staking: Software with UI?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 08:13 PM PDT

I have been doing research on figuring out what I would need to stake ETH when I finally have enough (32 ETH) to do so.

I have searched through Google, and through Reddit, but I could not find any sort of guide. There are bits of information, but nothing like a definitive manual to Staking. Specifically, I would like to know what kind what software is necessary. I am planning to purchase the recently-announced Raspberry Pi 4 as the validating machine.

/u/vbuterin mentioned to keep an eye out for testnets to experiment on. I would like to start getting used to the whole system, I really just am at a loss as to where to start.

I am pretty technically incompetent, so software with a UI would be very helpful for me. I do know that PoS is a little ways away, so my hope for software with a UI may also be premature.

    Any help is appreciated!

Whats the point of these Dapps and Games when the Fee outweighs the price of the item?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 02:00 AM PDT

I tried to buy a pack of card on Darkwinds. Transactions were coming up $44 fee for a pack of $2 cards.

I edited it so the price was cheaper. It fails then takes the fee.

So I try a higher price Fails and takes the higher fee.

Tried a slightly higher one. Fails and takes the fee.

I've now spent $15 for a pack of $2 cards which I haven't even got.

The point of the message is I know I cant get the money back..... but why does this happen? It's defo put me off. When i bought cryptokitties and other eth transactions for my ERC-20 tokens, i've only paid pennies in fees.
