Online street musician with Bitcoin Cash QR code went great. I had 10 people watching me and made about 10 CAD in BCH. And it was very chill. Join me next time and I can play your favorite song for some BCH. And unlike a street musician I could have thousands of people watching me.

LNBig, the LN's largest source of liquidity, currently proscesses an average of 200-300 transactions per day.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 10:45 AM PDT

First off, I want to thank /u/lnbig for clarifying the close node situation going on in the Lightning Network and taking the time to share with us.

I also want to recognize them for wholly supporting one of these crazy cryptocurrency projects. We may not see eye-to-eye, but the time and resources they're putting into crypto should be seen as commendable from any pro-cryptocurrency viewpoint.

With that being said, in a thread where we were discussing fee structure. they disclosed some of their current usage statistics, and it doesn't look terribly glowing for the current state of the Lightning Network.

Some interesting takeaways are that the entirety of LNBig currently only handles around 200-300 transactions per day with peaks in the 600tx/day range.

"because the earnings on commissions in the network are now meager. I have 200-300 transactions through all nodes a day, rarely 600"

"On commissions, I earn 5,000-10,000 sats per day. It's $0.4-$0.8. It's $20 in month maximum"

"At the opening of the channels (closing-opening again) i spent, probably, more than one thousand dollars."

The thread is worth a read if you have time.

LNBig is the largest conglomeration of lightning network nodes and currently has 473BTC or 49.6% of all LN capacity is locked in channels it controls.

TL;DR: LNBig, which represens half of the total capacity of the Lightning Network currently only handles 200-300 transactions per day.

    Using local.bitcoin.com

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 06:13 PM PDT

While local.bitcoin.com has no KYC (which is awesome, by the way) is it wise to use a throwaway username/email? That is one that can't be tied to you for purely privacy reasons?

Asking because I wouldn't mind using the platform and wondering how I should approach it from a privacy perspective.

Idea for chaintip -- Include the fee in the reply

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 11:58 AM PDT

Just reading another thread about high btc fees and someone tipped the op. I though this is a perfect example of fast low fee transactions but the fee isn't there. People getting tipped seeing how low the fees are might be good publicity and push adoption.

    Baffled by btc

    Posted: 07 Jun 2019 02:53 AM PDT

I own a website and frequently send out money via gift cards or other things to my users.

We recently added BTC as an option and the first batch got send out 250$ worth of BTC.

Simply said i was SHOCKED at the high fees the minimum amount i could pay for the fees was 3.65$

What the hell! We offer 5$ worth of BTC as a minimum so to send out that amount we have to pay 8.65$!

This is crazy we had to pay close to 80$ in fees for the 250$ that got sent out.

As a result we had to increase BTC prices to cover the fees which makes it a terrible value on our website.

What do you guys think about this?
