South Korea is the latest country to introduce its first bitcoin ATM. Not only is the machine produced locally by a home-grown company, it is also two-way, meaning users can also sell bitcoins and withdraw cash.

Which Bitcoin Scalability project deserves 5.75 BTC (~$46k)?

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 02:28 PM PDT

Back in 2012 I managed a bounty wallet dedicated to "Bitcoin Pruning", a scalability side-chain concept. The bounty collected 5.725 BTC and was meant to be donated to that specific project, but it never took off.

I'd like to make good use of these coins, and am looking for a suitable project or charity that deals specifically with improvements to Bitcoin's scalability. I am in touch with Anton from Scaling Bitcoin, and perhaps sponsoring that and giving the decision over to the conference's committee might be a good way to make proper use of the funds.

If you have any thoughts on established Bitcoin scalability projects that deserve & need funding please post them on this thread.

Edit: there has been a typo, the amount of money availble is 5.725 BTC and not 5.75 as the title states.

Attn: Bitcoin Miners: 15kw Hydro Power from a SMALL stream

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 07:49 PM PDT

I plan to build a mining setup and power it with one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY3p2e1-kN4

Fucking awesome technology. 15KW from an astonishingly small amount of water.

Curious if any miners out there are using something like this already?

Money can't buy happiness, but Bitcoin can

    Posted: 12 Jun 2019 10:04 AM PDT

I've never felt happy no matter how much money I had in the bank; instead it bought me sadness knowing it would only lose value the longer I saved it. With Bitcoin though, the knowledge that it will only continue to grow in value as time goes on, that gave me happiness and peace of mind like nothing ever has before.

This is the honest truth; buying and holding Bitcoin has been the only thing in my life that has gotten me out of my old depressed state of mind most millenial's have do to the anxiety of knowing they won't be able to afford a future. But with Bitcoin all that changes. It has already bought me financial freedom, and the more I stack & the longer I hold it only increases the happiness from the comfort of knowing my financial future will only continue to broaden and make things more attainable.

Buy Bitcoin, buy your future, buy your happiness & peace of mind.

Thought Experiment: How a really rich guy could increase btc price/value without doing anything related to trading.

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 02:42 AM PDT

This idea just occurred to me and I would like your ideas.

Say a true whale was sitting on a pile of BTC in cold storage and wanted to increase their worth without using any of the coins, nor buying more or even going near an exchange... how could they do it?

Well, what if they leveraged some of their (non-btc) wealth to eliminate a portion of the competition?!

Say they build/hire a serious amount of mining capacity and start systematically 51% attacking right across the altcoin landscape?

Destabilising alternate poorly-established cryptos should encourage people to move money out of then, especially when multiple ones start dropping one by one, while btc stands as a bastion of security...

I do realise the obvious issue that some people may just go "welp, all cryptos are insecure" but I would hope that the majority would see past this and instead realise "welp, shitcoins are worthless".

    Thoughts?

It's estimated that renewable energy powers around 74 percent of Bitcoin mining operations. If this is accurate, it would mean that blockchain as an industry is more renewables-driven than almost every other large-scale industry in the world.

What is the biggest need right now in the Bitcoin industry?

    Posted: 13 Jun 2019 01:01 AM PDT

I'm interested to know what is the industry lacking right now from it's actual users.
Please feel free to post anything that you think it's a current problem and needs to be fixed.
