Secret Contract components for Ethereum now open-sourced

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 02:14 PM PDT

Enigma enables secret contracts for Ethereum, where the data inputs and outputs can be concealed from nodes running the computation.

We've open-sourced the individual components of our next release prior to deploying a testnet.

The Enigma contract on Ethereum in particular may be of interest to developers creating tools that use Ethereum for consensus and offload computation or state.

    The open sourced repos are:

    1. Enigma Contract (in Solidity) and Enigma Library
    2. Enigma Core (rust crates for the secret contract engine)
    3. Enigma Peer-to-Peer (P2P), a fork of libp2p

You can read more about the individual components here: https://forum.enigma.co/t/discovery-components-open-sourced/721

Relevant - a Reddit-like app with rankings based on reputation + a prediction market

    Hey r/ethereum

I want to invite you guys to try out the beta version of Relevant.

To make it super easy, we've enabled signup with Reddit that gets you some initial tokens (20) + extra tokens if you have comment karma.

Relevant is a community-based forum similar to Reddit, only instead of measuring the ranking of posts by number of votes, we use Reputation-weighed voting. Votes cast by community members with a higher reputation count for more, resulting in an expert-driven curation system that effectively filters out low-quality content.

Some properties of the Reputation system:

    • Relevant Reputation is not a token.
    • The Reputation system is based on the personalized pagerank algorithm with sybil-resistant properties, so it cannot be gamed by creating bot accounts.
    • You earn reputation when your comments are upvoted.
    • Unlike ethtrader's donuts and various token-based designs, Relevant Reputation scores are not transferable and and are not a currency (we strongly believe reputation and currency should be decoupled).
    • Reputation is specific to each community and is cannot be transferred between communities.

Having a sybil-resistant Reputation metric allows us to build a prediction market on top of it. Community members can stake tokens (ERC20 on mainnet) as a bet on a ranking of a post within a given community (this is automatic with each upvote). This is similar to Steemit and other Curation Market designs, except we have a fundamental metric — reputation. So we don't have a self-fulling dynamics of whales or speculators dictating the rankings. More discussion of this is here: https://relevant.community/crypto/post/5c8b84c3b8521600175d18e5

If you're curious, there are more notes about reputation and cryptoeconomics here: https://relevant.community/relevant/post/5c8e2eb5ff88ec0017a1f496

    Questions and feedback welcome!

Notice: Next Core Developer Meeting (#59) Will Not Be Live Streamed

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 02:35 PM PDT

Due to the fact that Lane, Danny, and I are out of town on April 12th there will not be a live stream of the next core dev meeting. We are currently the only ones who know how to live stream it. I will be posting a video of the meeting sometime after.

I created WednesdayClub - a decentralized social network that uses WednesdayCoin, a coin that can only be sent on Wednesdays and to celebrate I will be airdropping some to whomever wants some!

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:26 AM PDT

Hi all, last year I created WednesdayCoin, the ERC20 token that can only be sent on Wednesdays, and it has been a blast since then. We are now on a couple of exchanges, have created some small DApps, and have a great community on our telegram and our subreddit /r/WednesdayCoin and are still having fun and building things. To that end we are introducing (still in Beta) WednesdayClub!

    https://WednesdayClub.app

WednesdayClub is a blockchain based social network that works only on Wednesdays and runs off WednesdayCoin! It does require metamask/trust(has some issues)/cipher to work. It is in beta but has been running well so far so check it out. We are self funded, we did not ICO(no plans to) and we built it in our spare time so we hope you enjoy it! Since it needs WednesdayCoin to work I will be airdropping some here so post your ERC20 compatible wallet and we'll send you some! And if you don't want to post it directly here just PM me :)

If you have not used a DApp before check out the about section :)

    https://wednesdayclub.app/w/about

Because some were inquiring here's the information for WednesdayCoin

    Contract address: 0x7848ae8f19671dc05966dafbefbbbb0308bdfabd

    Symbol: WED

    Decimals: 18

How many validators are we expecting?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 09:54 AM PDT

As the title states, I'm curious what the estimated number of validators will be when PoS goes live.

I've seen a lot of talk about what the rewards will be for staking, but I can't seem to find any mention of what the estimated number of validators could be.

As far as I understand, it's required to run a node in order to be a validator (please correct me if I'm wrong). So would it be safe to assume that the number of validators at launch will be similar to the number of nodes currently running on mainnet?

Transaction stuck with enough GAS. Any idea why?

We Made a thing. Its a toy, not to be taken seriously. Please help us break it.

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:33 AM PDT

I hope I'm posting this in the right place....if not, please let me know!

Eth devs, HAX0RZ, hobbyists, and ham-fisted amateurs:

Get your free (lol) BEANSX ERC721 token, and unlock the power of fake ropstien money with magic beans!

Better yet, hack our magic bean tree and steal all of the beans!

Seriously, we're learning so we can do something important, and we made a thing as part of the journey. It's not much, but it is ours lol.

If you are a software professional or security researcher, please don't waste your time on this. I'm sure you have better things to do, and we're not asking for professional help unless you just really want to look over some student level work....in which case we'd be honored to have your thoughts.

We want people to break it and steal our beans, so we can learn what we did wrong. We promise to use this knowledge for the good of humanity, saving democracy, etc (no, really, we're getting warmed up for the real project, which will be community run and non-commercial in nature https://github.com/vdmprojects/Aletheia ).

    Main contract 0x235220535e2445ba415642a92d27b5f874709b91

(other than this, it is pretty straightforward openZepplin ERC20 and 721 tokens, but those are also on the GitHub for inspection)

DM me with your ropsten address, and I'll send you a BEANSX token to unlock your BEANS....

    https://github.com/vdmprojects/BEANS

    UPDATES:

u/polynomialdag made this tool: https://oneclickdapp.com/nubi/ Should be pretty handy for working with the contract. Thanks, polynomial!

Some people have been objecting to this post, saying we should pay for PEN-testing.

This is literally a high school project. It's great to be showing our up and coming devs how helpful the community is....but then, they've already been on stack exchange...so I guess they'll probably get over it.

    Any updates on Nimbus?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 12:09 PM PDT

I've been running my testnet validator for a few days and was wondering if any updates have come out since the release. I'm excited to see some metrics on how things on the beacon chain are playing out.

    Staking 32 eth, casper

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:11 PM PDT

Hi all, I've been trying to find out a little more about staking ethereum in the upcoming update but each site/forum says something different. Simple questions, is 32 eth still the minimum stake? And what would the annual return be on that? Thanks!

Where does PoS reward come from?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:39 PM PDT

In Eth2.0 beacon chain, PoS validators will be able to earn Ether through staking and highly-available validation. Since Ether isn't generated on the beacon chain, where does this reward come from? Would also love pointers to the documentation to learn more. Thanks!
