We have *a lot* of big upgrades/changes coming to ENS starting in May of this year!

Migration to the permanent registrar (you'll need to migrate your domains, and you'll have 1 year to do it), a change to yearly rent, a change to instant registrations (auctions will be gone soon!), the opening up of 3-6 character .eth domains (including a pre-reservation process), major DNS-ENS integration, a brand new ENS interface, and more.

You can read a summary of what's going on with ENS here: DNS, Permanent Registrar, and Hackathons: ENS Development Summary (03/2019)

The ENS team will be hosting an AMA about all of this here on r/ethereum on April 5th at 1pm pacific time.

If you can't be on Reddit during the AMA, or just don't want to forget your question, please comment below with your question. We'll try to answer questions from this thread on the AMA thread.

Please help spread the word. Hope to see you all there!

With first decentralized margin trading platforms being released and with DAI token itself I'm starting to realize how damn amazing Ethereum is

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 05:47 PM PDT

Had a bag of it when it was 8-10 $ before DAO hack which made me sell everything. But after seeing projects like DAI, Nuo, bZx, Kyber I've decided to buy back into ETH. Margin trading on Nuo and bZx in decentralized fashion without being worried about security, KYC and other centralized exchanges problems is AMAZING.

With that being said I have some questions if you don't mind since I'm out of the sync with Ethereum:

    1. How far are we (estimate) from PoS on the mainnet?
    2. What will happen with token inflation when we switch on PoS?
    3. How much % of your overall stake value is expected profit from staking if lets say 50% of the tokens get staked?
    4. What are the other next big milestones for Ethereum except POS and when are those expected to get released?

Thanks in advance and sorry for being lazy to search myself.

Relationship between a contract and a token

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 08:46 AM PDT

I'm reading token specifications, and the relationship between token and contract is lost on me. I ran this contract on my local testnet: https://www.ethereum.org/token , and my local account has something like 4.757e+21 tokens. So now I can't even see a real balance if I move a few tokens around, although balance is besides the point except for the fact that I have tokens.

If my contract did something other than just create an amount of tokens, like record/transfer ownership of something, how is the release of tokens related? All the tokens on the open markets being traded vs. the utility of each of the tokens; I'm not seeing the relationship, however fun and profitable it is to trade tokens.

So say my contract of ownership/transfer has a few data-fields: current owner, list of previous owners, transaction timestamps, asset description, asset id, and functions to make transfers happen. It also has a total supply of say 10,000. Does all of this transfer and data collection happen within the single contract and balloons larger, or does each transaction somehow relate and spread to one of 10,000 tokens? Or does a contract even need a supply of tokens?

What does it mean to say the ERC721 token is "non fungible"?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2019 08:41 AM PDT

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a token that represents a unique asset, either digital or physical. Such a token holds a unique string of metadata pertaining only to that specific unique asset. Therefore, an NFT cannot be replaced by any other token, since no other token - even that of the same ERC-721 type - cannot substitute its metadata.

All traditional cryptocurrency tokens are fungible and interchangeable (you can trade 1 BTC for 1 BTC and end up holding the same value). If we go to buying and selling ERC721 tokens, however, you can only buy the whole asset. For example, you can't buy one leg of the most know CryptoKittie, you have to buy the whole thing. That makes NFTs non-divisible.

Their undivisive, unique, and immutable nature makes non-fungible tokens perfect for applications in KYC procedures, academic degrees and other certificates, collectibles and more.
