CDP Saver is now live on the mainnet Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:31 AM PDT After 5 months of development, we are proud to announce that CDP Saver is now live on the mainnet. CDP Saver is a fully functional CDP dashboard with advanced, yet accessible features, including Repay, Boost and a CDP Marketplace. The Repay feature allows you to increase your CDP's ratio and make it safer by taking part of the collateral out of the CDP and using it to pay back a part of the Dai debt all within a single transaction. This process is also known as graceful unwinding and the cost of performing Repay for a user is only the transaction fees. The Boost feature, on the other hand, does the opposite and results in a decreased CDP ratio, but an increased amount of ETH in the CDP. As a TL;DR we can say that the features of CDP Saver include:

Dear all supporters of Ethereum, here's an easy way we can help the ecosystem. Posted: 29 Apr 2019 02:34 PM PDT Liking, Retweeting, and Joining the conversation on Twitter will help tremendously by making us more visible to a new audience outside of Ethereum subreddits. More people every day are becoming interested and learning about smart contracts. Below is a list of people I recommend giving a follow. It's in no particular order. As a side effect, it will signal support to the guys doing the heavy lifting, the excitement from the community, and will keep you better informed in real time about progress in the ecosystem. Please feel free to add to this list. Experimental ENS DApp browsing via Swarm and IPFS - Ensquare Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:26 AM PDT Thought i'd create a quick demo video showing some experimental DApp browsing using Ensquare and the new --addressbar feature. Here's the video https://ipfstube.erindachtler.me/v/QmciKU4spnGZEKA3VMesJQwj297uVU4qdyFqNi85rNGz8M Basically it detects the hash type and loads the appropriate site from either IPFS or swarm. And shows an icon indicating the hash type. As shown in the demo video, it works equally well with self hosted nodes or cloud hosted providers like Infura. [Discussion] Ethereum should fully focus on DeFi, its true strength Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:28 AM PDT Hey guys! At Tellor.io we've created a decentralized oracle in which the data output is secured by a hybrid PoW/PoS consensus mechanism. We fully focus on security and on the applications that need that extra bit of security compared to alternative oracle solutions; Tellor is specifically designed for the DeFi market. When Ethereum started to gain traction at the beginning it was mainly due to the fundraising possibilities through ICOs. For a long time this was what the majority of people were interested in and what was one of the biggest reason for the increase in price. On the fundraising side of things we've seen a few considerable changes in the last few months and weeks. On the one hand, we have competitor networks that have heaps of money to support projects to build on their network. On the other hand, we have exchanges that not only offer money, but also easier fundraising, connections and a listing. When we think about it from a business perspective a network like Binance Chain will have a better proposition to most early stage projects than Ethereum. Obviously, Ethereum developed further and is not only a fundraising platform anymore. The competition in other verticals is considerable though. In the end, the developers building products need money and if money is easier to get if you choose another platform then most will take that decision. These platforms normally are way more centralized – but for how many end users does it really matter? And in which vertical is that really important? In gaming for example nobody cares about it – users are simply looking for a good game. If blockchain can enhance that gaming experience, then awesome! Though DeFi is a completely different beast. Remember the initial promises of cryptocurrencies? An alternative currency? Bank the unbanked? For these use cases decentralization is important. Solving the trilemma of security, scalability and decentralization in a proper way like Ethereum attempts is important. It's crucial as it helps in realizing that use case. On top of that, Ethereum already has proper traction in that vertical. We are of the opinion that decentralized finance will be the key use case for Ethereum network in the future. As a result, we are of the opinion that Ethereum should focus the majority of its resources on that vertical. Let us discuss! We just released a Fixed Point library for Solidity with overflow checks Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:59 AM PDT We couldn't find anything that would allow us to use decimals and check for overflows, so we coded our own fixed point math contract and released under the MIT license. We wrote more than a hundred tests to make sure this was reliable in all edge cases. Please have a read of this article explaining how it works, it took me a while to write it! [link] [comments]
A question regarding different consensus mechanisms Posted: 29 Apr 2019 12:47 PM PDT Could someone explain how a consensus mechanism such as Casper the FFG compares to, say, Tendermint (with regards to tx throughput, decentralization and security)? I suppose the question is applicable to other consensus protocols as well, such as Ouroboros Genesis. It would be great if somebody could provide a high level breakdown comparing modern consensus mechanisms, or if such a breakdown exists, to point the community to it. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 12:57 AM PDT Here's more info on the DAIHard platform. Here's the trade. Make sure Metamask is unlocked, and if it's not on mainnet, switch it to mainnet and refresh. Click on each phase to see more on how exactly a DAIHard Trade works. This is relatively urgent, so I've chosen rather small phase windows and included a favorable margin. In particular note that the payment window is only 1 hour, which means that once you commit, we will have to coordinate quickly to get the airbnb ordered and move the trade to the Judgement phase where I can release the DAI. The post-mortem was the last thing we've posted on DAIHard. We've since addressed that vulnerability, but have not arrived at a point where we're ready to re-launch yet, with PR and pizzaz, so please use with caution. However, the tool is live and (probably!) unhackable. And I'm in a bind--I need to pay for an airbnb in Vietnam, but my credit cards are locked, my banks are closed, and I don't have a phone number to call them in any case. So I'm giving DAIHard a shot, and hopefully this post will get the visibility needed to attract a buyer (in this case, "buying" my DAI with an airbnb reservation). If someone commits and helps me, I will have opened a portal from crypto to the real world, and routed around the credit card system that is currently failing me, ending up with a product that didn't need to interface with crypto at all. That would be pretty freakin cool! Fingers crossed! [link] [comments]
